View Full Version : Jedi Council?

Just thinking, i have an idea for SWGB2, so does sithy, so does vostok, and others such as luke seem to have an interest in our ideas for SWGB2.

Therefore i propose a SWGB2 thinktank conprised of members of this community and others discussing a possible SWGB2 (called the Jedi Council, hence the title) to produce a concept that would be acceptable for the majority of fans so that lucasarts have a blueprint of sorts should they decide to create a SWGB2.

I need something to do in my GeeBee hometown, I'll participate... I gotta finish my Yuuzhan Vong Civ Template...

06-12-2003, 06:46 PM
I dunno this is gonna be hard and will take a long time for almost nothing. We aren't the game the designers I don't see why we should put so much work in this.

06-12-2003, 06:50 PM
Well, maybe, but remember that the community doesn't have the same level of designing and balance prowess as the designers.

If there is going to be one of these, then i guess I'll serve as the gameplay maven...

06-13-2003, 05:13 AM
Heh. I'll be in this, if you'll let me. I know I haven't been around that much lately, but I'm still here, and I'm still heavily opinionated. ^^

Wow, i didnt think there would be much of a response to this.

However just remember that the job of the council will be to produce a single (preferable) template (not fully balanced game coz thats impossible) that would be useful to lucasarts should they choose to make SWGB2.

It's always worth giving it a shot. LA do check out the forums and if I see any decent ideas, I will be passing them onto LA.

Well it's a nice idea Windu, but I see two major problems with it:

:atat: Firstly, I've come to believe that even if we make the best game plan possible, LucasArts may be wary of looking at it due to the fear that one of us will sue them for copying our ideas. I believe a similar problem may have been what led to the AoM expansion not featuring Aztecs: too many others had come up with comprehensive designs for an Aztec civ, so to use an Aztec civ may have been viewed as plagiarism. Then again they may always have planned to release the silly idea of an Atlantis civ (even if it does conflict with what they set up about Atlantis in the original game).

:atat: Secondly, and this is probably a bigger problem... WE NEVER AGREE ON ANYTHING!

But I'm up for it all the same.

06-23-2003, 10:50 AM
1. They can ask us nicely we won't sue them!

2. We almost never agree on anything...almost.

Anyway looks like everybody is doing his own template free from persecussion (except windu who is using a generic template). Hey let's have a little bet just for fun.
The template that ressembles the most SWGB2 or the next SW RTS gets some prize:D . Probably just honor and pride but still:rolleyes: .

06-23-2003, 11:16 AM
but windu wants to start his own little starwars group and give it a cool (to him) little nickname so he can finally be a part of a group!

06-24-2003, 01:15 AM
1. I don't think thats the reason the Aztecs weren't picked, but it definately was a deterent.

2. We are agreeing that we disagree though (hears alien jedi poll echoing back)

06-24-2003, 06:43 AM
In what way would the making of teh Aztec civilization be plagarism?

Sith, good point...we ARE agreeing that we disagree, but we do agree you have to admit. They're just ideas floating around that are bound to have disagreements. Not every conversation has to be agreeable.:D

If this makes no sense what-so-ever, I apoligize. I was woken up by a thunderstorm two hours ago and can't fall back asleep...thank god I have just a half a day of school...then it's vacation!

I disagree that we always disagree. Sometimes we agree that we disagree but then at other times we can all agree to agree, and of course other times we disagree a lot.

Having said that i think a group made of members with very different ideas is a good thing because then there will be many different ways of looking at things. I would also like to point out that i am quite happy to use the ideas and feedback of others in my idea, and have already done so with ideas from Vostok, Sithmaster and Corran.

Ah its deja vu all over again....:D

Great idea Luke's Dad! But how are we going to decide whose plan fits the final result best?

Darth Windu
06-26-2003, 10:57 AM
The Council will...

06-26-2003, 11:32 AM
How will we determine on who will be in the council? And wasn't this thought up...about a year and a half ago with the senate idea or something like it that never lasted for long to my knowledge?

We'll see it then. It should be obvious. Besides, you only win honor and you'll show everyone that you've got an incredible foresight. Should be easy to decide.

JediMasterEd- There is no council and probably won't be any. We all have our own ideas and will post them free from long arguing (except Windu's templates) and free from persecution.

06-26-2003, 08:10 PM
Umm...Windu I foresee a problem. If the council is made up of the people who are mking templates and the Council has to pick one, wont everyone just pick their own?

Darth Windu
06-28-2003, 06:33 AM
Sith - no. The job of the council would be to create a general outline of what the members of this, and other, boards would like to see. Hence, i would assume that multiple plans would be presented to the council, which would then be picked apart, altered etc until a single plan developed that all agree on....one plan to rule them all.....

06-28-2003, 02:52 PM
Windu, it's impossible.
You just want to animate a stupid debate for absolutely nothing.
A long debate that will end like the Gunship thread. We've had enough of that ****.

Darth Windu

luke - and its that sort of stupid, self-defeating attitude that will mean we never get anywhere.

The idea, if i need to explain it again, is that there is a group of members who develop a single idea for a SWGB2. I fail to see how this will cause a huge debate that will end up like the gunship thread.

06-29-2003, 05:13 PM
The council idea was created a while ago before the release of GB if I recall. Maybe Rhett may remember...

Nice... Windu calling anyone stupid is kind of funny to me for some reason...

It's COMPLETELY pointless... Because:
A: "Developers" are already paid for people making the games. Why would they listen to a bunch of (mostly) 15 year olds on a stupid message board when they have paid professionals who've done this before already working on it?
B: Like the gunship thread... after re-thinking this thought I've decided not to post it because I can't control my opinions in talking about Windu's nonsense and it'll turn into a flame war. However I feel a lot of your ideas are flawed in some fashion and you fail to listen a lot of the time to other people.

Another problem I see is that ideally it would be nice to have twelve members of the council, and I doubt we have twelve regular posters anymore.

So I guess we'll have to have less than twelve members. Or all regulars are members and non-regulars are not.

But then that sort of defeats the purpose... well, what exactly is the purpose? To decide on a good model for SWGB2? That's what we do already, isn't it? How would the Council alter this?

06-30-2003, 08:33 PM
Actually I'm still here... just waiting for more original topics to come out to post (c'mon, there's "Should weather affect troops?" and "Rise of Nations engine for SWGBII" on the first page; didn't we cover these quite thoroughly over the past year?) Ah well, I can't really complain since I've had a ton of crap going on irl, so I really haven't had much of a chance to get inventive. Guess I'll have to see if I can come up with something new...

pbguy - when was the last time you suggested anything to me?

vostok - that is the reason that i would like to bring in members from the SWGBH and official Star Wars boards as well so that there is a wider representation of views, even though the people of the offical boards seem a bit...flighty.

07-01-2003, 09:49 AM
People on the forums: Myself, CorranSec, Darth Windu, Kryllith, lukeiamyourdad, Admiral Vostok, pbguy1211, Black Mamba, Boba Rhett, Paragon Leon, DarthMaulUK, STCTT, DashRendar, KA Heavyarms, Sithmaster_821, StarWarsPhreak. If I missed you, sorry.

07-01-2003, 05:26 PM
Look windu, You want your stupid genric set and everybody wnats the Unique set(arguing about that in another thread). Now this is the base of the units of the game and probably how the whole game works. It's already starting to get ugly_over there. And it's been quite a while since we started that discussion so don't think we'll ever finish it.

And with you around I'm pretty sure it's gonna end like the Gunship thread.

Nice list, Ed, though several of those people are not regular posters or are not very vocal about things. The mainstays of this forum are probably:

Myself, JediMasterEd, CorranSec, Darth Windu, lukeiamyourdad, pbguy1211, Sithmaster_821, StarWarsPhreak. Others come and go, really.

07-02-2003, 12:10 AM
Wow, Kryillth, long time no see, bud...

I agree with Luke. It was a well intentioned idea, but I know that, once things start going along, Ill be getting death threats from purists, and simwiz will come and curse us all of, and DMUK will inevitably close the thread and get some of us banned:)

07-02-2003, 12:20 AM
Lets pray that never happens Sith...:p The only thing that's bugging me is the amount of people who have been here for over a year. There aren't many left. lol I regestered two days after DMUK.

How did the gunship end anyway? I know there were several of them but I never read them.

07-02-2003, 01:05 AM
**hears mention of the gunship thread... goes out and buys a gun... shoot's self in temple.**

07-02-2003, 09:48 AM
Hey, Kryillith. Haven't seen you for ages. I was beginning to hope think you were dead. :p

Anyway, yes. Although there are many members of the board, only a few are regular posters. And this Jedi Council really seems to have no purpose. A select group of us basically figure all this stuff out in other threads, primarily the Official GB2 thread, so this thread has no point that I can see.

Admiral Vostok
07-02-2003, 10:42 PM
Agreed (though the Official SWGB2 Thread is in death throes...)

07-02-2003, 11:57 PM
I dont go to the SWGB2 thread out of principle.:)

Ive been here for along time (I was a lurker long before an actual member, and not a regular until a long time after that).

07-03-2003, 12:07 AM
Myself, Rhett, Leon, Rendar,DMUK, STTCT, and KrKode are probably the oldest ones that have been on the forums...may have missed one or two...but I myself became a lurker for a while...should have stayed instead of leaving for a while.
