View Full Version : =A= City

As a non-member i was just wondering if you guys have settled on a list of priority building that need to be given the most attention within the city. These buildings should be ones that are vital to the PA and are the ones that should not be relocated etc.
I'm working on a layout suggestion at present similar to the one that Xx_PATMAN_xX did. I was just wondering which buildings should form the spine of the city, in order to limit the need for re-location in the future and allow for future expansion. Any ideas? Or even a final decision on the priority buildings?
We are just brainstorming, from what I can see.

well the most important is ofcourse the guild hall.. thats you PA building where recruiting begins....
others are merely extra's
06-12-2003, 01:58 PM
I posted my thoughts on priority in the buildings thread.
06-12-2003, 01:58 PM
OK. That helps. I hope you don't mind but im creating a rought 3d city using a programme just to see how streets and walkways would look and connect together if i were the designer. I'm looking at street width, wall height (will be buildings eventually when textures are added) and street layout. would it be ok if i made a rough design on how i would create the city structure if i were the creator?
06-12-2003, 02:08 PM
Sure go ahead.:D
I would love to see it.
06-12-2003, 04:06 PM
i'll get onto it then. i'll post some links to some screenshots when the're ready.
Make the main streets large, so large animals can walk through them, and large vehicles can do the same...
06-12-2003, 04:19 PM
Sounds cool :D
06-12-2003, 04:46 PM
Like i said before i want to know what people want. So i'll keep asking peoples opinion on certain things. Most likely ill ask you to compare 3 screenshots and pick the best on to make final. that sort of stuff.
Make the animal ranch somewhat big too. Maybe a few houses for the Creature Handlers, or a APT. building for us, with pins and such.
Also, why are you doing this? Thanks too...
06-12-2003, 05:42 PM
Don't expect anything good! i'm only using the old half-life engine so graphics arn't up to anything. I'm just bored and fancy doing something. It should just give you a good idea on how and maybe where to set up the buildings before you set up the city.
06-12-2003, 08:21 PM
yeah a very rough 'sketch' to give you an Idea of what it will look like just like you said. and we need to have the 'gnarly gnorts'
and maby som street light's.

When choosing a site for a player city. are you able to build it around certain geography such as collection of trees or a small steep hill? Just thought it might make an interesting feature for the city if you built the buildings around the outside of a large square wiv parks in the middle with paths going through the parks leading to a central collection of large trees. Would look beutifull and unique. Just a thought:dozey:
06-14-2003, 12:04 PM
You can place buildings pretty much wherever you want. If you place it on a hill, the ground underneath the building will become level. If you place it in the middle of a forest, the trees will be cut down. We could probably build around a small copse of trees. They probably won’t let us place the buildings too far apart though.
06-14-2003, 03:29 PM
but yeah I think it would be cool to have a park then buildings around it. I wonder if we can have a pool in the PA town. or would we be useing the river and/or lake.
06-14-2003, 03:42 PM
I've got a 2D design for the PA city. It's got all the vital/semi-vital sites plotted and all the 'green' areas that would be used for beutification including a central copse of tall trees. The city is basically designed to look very very attractive from all the major sites and still be usefull. I have taken into account some future-proofing and have created secondary sites (sites that are not necessary at start-up but may be vital in the future, i.e. space port etc) as well as creating some expansion plots to residential areas and farmland so it dont get the problems of having to knock down some areas of the town to make more room for houses.
06-14-2003, 03:50 PM
wow good thinking...now when do we see these?
06-14-2003, 03:58 PM
- when i've finished writing up the key
- when i've had my chineese :p
and last of all, when i learn how to show you em!
shouldn't be long
Oh and don't be expecting anything great. It's created from Word and uses simple shaders
06-14-2003, 04:03 PM
you can E-mail us. heres mine Dr_Bazzar@yahoo.com.
06-14-2003, 04:52 PM
Thanks, i'll send you it soon
06-14-2003, 04:58 PM
Man i can't wait to see this! Post it! Post the link!
06-14-2003, 06:10 PM
i said dont expect anything good, its only a 2D plan of the city done in Word.
I've only just started the 3D one using the half-life editor. for that i'll split the city drawn on the 2d one down into sections and model them in 3d. But again its only a roungh idea of city structure and set-up not how it will 'look'. crap gfx, textures and personal modelling ability!!!!!!
How i post the link, i cant host it, its a word file and i haven't got a site to upload it to?
I've sent you it in e-mail Jatari.
e-mail it to me. I can maybe post it on http://ride-bmx.tripod.com
The layout my friend gave me...he said he found it some where...
06-14-2003, 07:54 PM
I like it very much it just needs some fountians.:D
06-14-2003, 09:49 PM
So when are you going to make the city you made available for us to see?
CAn't wait to see it man :D
06-15-2003, 12:22 PM
i've sent it to Ride. he says he might be able to post it on his site.
there was nothing on the Word doc....
06-15-2003, 02:27 PM
Thats wierd. I'll send you it again.
And Jatari. I already thought of that (fountains). I created 4 areas in the central gardens indicated by a black/white hatch. This area is for Statues/Fountains/or any other beutification things you can build, i just havn't got a clue what we can build to make things look good. :D
06-15-2003, 05:44 PM
POst it on geocities if its a word.
06-15-2003, 06:04 PM

For the sake of the picture, that isn't important.
What is important is that you put a huge statue of me in the center. :D
06-15-2003, 06:06 PM
Yep! you look just like a bright green circle!:D
06-15-2003, 06:09 PM
Can you e-mail it to me? Patman997@aol.com :D
06-15-2003, 06:11 PM
I've sent you it Patman.
06-15-2003, 06:20 PM
Yep! you look just like a bright green circle!
06-15-2003, 06:21 PM
Don't be all sad. At least your the center-piece of the city!
06-15-2003, 10:15 PM
yeah a slimy, green, glob of moss and gunk, but you will still be the center attraction. :D
06-16-2003, 02:43 AM
Hell I am curious of what this looks like too, Thesethius@hotmail.com
06-16-2003, 12:18 PM
Lord_Vessen, Wraag. Sent you the city plan.
06-16-2003, 03:15 PM
Its a blank doc. Just has the words (It won't open in windows explorer):
Obviously not to scale and only a rough guide to what my perfect city would look like.
Here’s the Key:
06-16-2003, 05:39 PM
Go to this site i've just created click the link to download

06-16-2003, 06:00 PM
My god! That's an.... ambitious city plan. You sure work a lot on this, I'm impressed! Keep up the good work! :)
06-16-2003, 06:15 PM
A good city will help out a lot...make us that much more noticed! ;) Even though everyone seems to know us anyways...
06-16-2003, 06:20 PM
Thanks Setsuko. :)
And Maestro, there'll always be someone to gloat to! :D
06-16-2003, 07:49 PM

06-16-2003, 08:11 PM

06-16-2003, 10:22 PM
hmmm. it worked for me.
06-16-2003, 10:23 PM

06-16-2003, 10:27 PM

06-17-2003, 03:26 AM
What program to you guys veiw it in? I'm coming up with crap.
06-17-2003, 07:16 AM
I posted a link to the site where the file is at the top of this page. Did you click that?
Oh and has anyone got any ideas for street names. I didn't have a clue? Good idea to name the streets though instead of just 1 2 or 3.
06-17-2003, 09:23 PM
well, 1 should be party st., and number 2 should be relaxer st. and three should be pet lover.
06-18-2003, 04:39 PM
I have but one thing to say:
Where's my monument!?! :D
Seriously, looks good. :)
I sure hope it's possible. ;)
06-18-2003, 05:40 PM
The Jan Gaarni Gardens! Hows that? :D
I'd love for this to be accomplishable but we'll have to see.
I'd love to get some info on what we can build to make the cities more unique because i want something that is the envy of the galaxie when its built.
06-18-2003, 07:06 PM
I still can't view it. Yes I did click the link. It just about blank. Maybe you could copy and paste it on here if its a word doc.
06-18-2003, 07:23 PM
The Jan Gaarni Gardens! Hows that? :D
Well, it's not the same, but it'll have to do I guess. :D ;) :p
06-18-2003, 07:31 PM
Lol, I think that would be a good idea actually. The names of the leaders could be city names things. Like Setsuko Avenue etc.
06-18-2003, 08:59 PM
i cant view the city map at all, please email it to email@example.com
06-18-2003, 11:24 PM
ok how about
Main st.= Venustas Avenue
st. 1= Setsuko Dr.
st. 2= Gaalgoth St.
st. 3= Corzip Dr.
(Venustas means Beauty in latin)
06-19-2003, 12:12 AM
Lol. Now we need approval from the leaders...But who wouldn't want a street named after them? (Me)
06-19-2003, 04:36 PM
HAhaha yeah well I would so lets just wait and see.
06-20-2003, 03:25 PM
This is a link to a PA Hall guide...has some good information!
06-20-2003, 06:03 PM
Cool! we get to have our own titles when our PA is up in game!!!!!
the will call vessen 'Vessen the Slayer' and myself 'Jatari the relentless'.
06-20-2003, 06:38 PM
3200 Cr for upkeep of the PA Hall alone? PER DAY!!??!?
I knew having a town was an expensive affair, but gee-eez. :D
06-20-2003, 06:42 PM
Just don't be a Bush and shove tax up our ass. Hahaha! That reminds me...has a tax been decided yet?
06-20-2003, 06:53 PM
Well, if there were to be more taxes, then the benefits would be huge for the members. ;)
Kinda like it is here in my country and Sets. :)
And no, I don't think we have decided for sure how much the tax rate will be. There's a leader meeting on Sunday though where this most likely will come up. It even starts an hour earlier cause of the immenent release of you-know-what. :D
