View Full Version : Were you a lurker?

Hannibal

I noticed that when a lot of people first post they say they've been reading the posts for a few days(or even weeks).

Did everyone here lurk before they joined? Or did you jump right in and register?

Me personally I lurked for a couple days before I joined. That was on the Jedi Power Battles forum.

Lurk? I wasn't given the opportunity to do so. :p

I lurked in the Jedi Knight forums for a long time. I remember still when the forums were alive and the Galactic Plumberman was strong.

I didn't post until about 3 weeks after I registered. Then I made my way to the Episode 2 forums and lurked over there for about 2 months.

I was a lurker for about a month or so I think. I can just remember being so afraid when I made my first post ever [it was here at swk.com], this was the first online forum I have ever joined. Now I look back and laugh......heh. :)

When I joined the Episode 1 forums were a pretty hot place to be at, so I made about 26 posts there and some at JKII.net and swk.com, then quit for a while because everyone else had 1000+ posts and I kind've felt inadequate. :p

After a couple of months, KoTOR brought me back and I've been here ever since. :)

Yeah, same here. One of the worst mistakes I've ever made. And I'm still paying for it.

Heh.. memories. I thought getting my name mentioned on GB.com was something special.. *giggles*

I had only looked at the forum for a couple days before posting.

I lurked the Jediknight and Obi Wan forums from September '99. I joined in January 2000. Once ObiWan got cancelled I left. I then started lurking the JKII forums when everything was quiet and I joined in April 2002 since I had questions about editing and stuff.

i browsed the jkii forums quite some time (month or 2 i guess) before i joined and asked how to make the padme skin do other taunts :D

StormHammer
06-17-2003, 11:42 AM
Nope. As I recall, I needed help with something or other, and dove straight into the original jediknight.net forums, way back in 1998 or 1999 or something. I can't remember. I don't think I even introduced myself. Heh. I'm not sure if that thread exists any more...because it was before the Dark Times...before...the Forum Merge.

*cue sinister music*

I dove straight into jediknightii.net as well. :D

It's now that I sometimes lurk...while hunting for Trolls, Flamers and Spammers...

i don't think i did lurk, certainly not for long anyway.
i first came to LF cause i wanted to find out how to change a MP skin into SP. then i saw the starwars section and just started posting. after that i found my way to the swamp.

I was drawn in just after JK II was announced. I lurked for about 7 minutes, then saw something I absolutely had to reply to.

So, no, I didn't lurk. I lurk now, but I didn't lurk before joining.

Lurk I did not, dived right into the scuttlebutt. I mainly started stupid threads that didn't mean anything, and post on poll and movie threads just to get the posts *looks at himself and realizes he is still doing the same thing* O nevermind than.

What exactly do you mean "were"? ^_^

I lurked for about 3 months before joining, and I remember I managed to get my 50th post sometime around May or so(about 2 months after I joined:p) And as I'm sure anyone who knows me will say, I'm still lurking to this day. :lurkblast

But I suppose that explains why I have so few posts compared to my friends who registered months after me *cough*Leemu and leXX*cough*:fist::D.

Yup, I might see 1000 one of these years...

Since i finally got the net, i decided to rejoin LF straIght away. Previously i used netcafes and go banned for spamming, i was new to the net then and was blind. :)

I've now learnt alot from many things and experiances. But anyway no i wasn't a lurker. :D

I mostly lurk at forums, and it was the same thing with lucasforums.com. I believe I lurked around at jediknightii.net, and registered to post every few weeks or so. I lurked for a long time at swknights.com as well, until I finally had the nerve to post in a few threads...

Hehehe...I lurked for almost 6 months before I finally joined... on and off, I mean, not constant, everyday lurking...

StarScream423
07-04-2003, 01:23 AM
I lurked for about 2-3 days before I first posted, some people feel that I spam, although I feel I just reply often(warranted replies) and I wasn't sure about this one and I didn't want to be flamed/banned :D

You guys seem understanding though so I gave it a shot, I post at a large number of other forums and this is one of the most mature ones that I am a part of.

I also love how you have forums for all the old Star Wars games and movies packaged together(Dark Forces :p )

I didn't lurk at all, my first post was in the Strategy Shack in the Jediknightii forums.

I jumped right into it but I'd have to admitt that since I've registered I've been lurking a bit due to a lack of what I'd call valid threads on the two places i visit on LF (This place and Jediknightii.) But as of lately a few threads have caught my attention so I have sort of jumped back in, but for how long???? :yoda:

Echuu Shen-Jon

Nah, it was faster ... a few days ... He couldn't get a costum title yet because you had to be registred a few days before you could get it ... ah those old times.

Rhett ... ofcourse you weren't a lurker. We both were pionieers on the GB forums (LF was built around the GB forum). There was not much to lurk.

Couple of months of solid lurking and then i registered to post on swknights.com forums. But i still lurk some times as i'm not much of a talker so i rarely have anything constructive to say.

well i didnt even fully understand the lurker concept untill i read this . no i didnt. wats the point in seeing wat other people say unless u can put in your opinion, or even criticise them!?

Can I point out that its not 'dived right in' its 'DOVE right in'

Boba Rhett
07-25-2003, 05:05 AM
It's no problem. Just remember to use the Edit Post button in the future. :)

Btw, either dove or dived is acceptable as the past tense of dive.
