Really, how important is the ® registered trademark thingy mean when you can make a movie that is called Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle. Does this mean we all can make a movie that's called Monkey island... or did lucasarts get paid for it...

Trademarks are region- and product specific. So LucasArts probably has Full Throttle registered in the US and a bunch of other territories for stuff like "merchandising", "games and toys" and "electronic software". Those categories are hypothetical, I don't know their exact names, but that's how it works. I guess the film company owns the trademark for Full Throttle motion pictures.

Also I don't think it counts for Charlies Angels as it is in the title along with Charlies Angels II so it would create a brand new title Charlies Angels II: Full Throttle and therfore wouldn't count. If that wasn't the case then people could get sued every time they used the words Full Throttle in a title for something, may it be in that order or not.

Nah, that's not true, Neil. Otherwise I could make a movie called "Star Wars Terminator meets The Hulk" without fear of legal problems :)

hmm, I guess that's true, then again, that would be a helluva good movie :D

Yoda: "But beware of the dark side. Anger, fear, aggression; the dark side of the Force are they."
Hulk: "You know, he's right, Luke. You wouldn't like me when I'm angry."

There's obvious differences there. It's not illegal to make a movie called "The Unofficial Story of Star Wars" but it would be illegal to make a movie called "Star Wars: Episode 1 The movie that SHOULD have been!" :) and then put a ton of Star Wars characters in it.

Full Throttle is a game and not a film. I believe anyone could make a movie called "The Secret of Monkey Island" so long as they just didn't steal the ideas of the game (ie it was completely unreated --- which is highly unlikely considering the bizarre title :)). Anyhoo, I think that's how they got away with it.

There are plenty of porn movies with the same (or very similar) titles to "proper" movies too.
