View Full Version : Important issue regarding suspicious links, please read!

Darth Groovy

There have been a number of issues, where people are posting links that cause you to donate points to some other user when you click them. This is not just going on at Yoda's Swamp, it is happening in other forums, but I felt obligated to warn you.

The issues at hand have been resolved, but that does not prevent us from stopping some other user to come and post a similar link.

If you see a suspicious link like this, first of all if you do not know the member, don't click it. If you click a link and loose points, report the post immediately, and do NOT under any circumstance quote the post, that causes the link to show up more than once, and makes more work for us, and more points for them.

If you have lost points recently do to these childish games, please contact an admin, and tell them where and who exactly you lost points too.

Thanks in advance,

Groovy

Thanks for Posting this Groovy, wasn't sure when if any mod would. I wish an admin had come along first and made an announcement of it, but oh well. I find this trick quite clever, but more so i find it low and dirty.

Nope I didn't them back.

Well I'm donating anyway, but still I think it's pretty childish :) What will the punishment be for ppl who post such links?? Maybe it's better to warn them directly by giving them the HORRRRIBLE consequences :)

I think their points should be donated to Father Torque, who can donate them to ppl who need them :) Of course the victims should get their points back first...

You know, when this whole point system started and I saw how a user could donate points, I wondered if this was thing. Running a script or a URL that would donate points to another user. (Not that I wanted to do it, but just from more of a debugging issue) But I am lazy and did not do anything more than just briefly think this. I was wondering more how the community would react about the points from a socialogy aspect at the time.

Kinda surprised about it just now showing up, but really dissapointed that someone would take the time to do something like this when the reward is basically pointless.

You know what the sad thing is...these are users who have been part of this forum long enough to know better. This whole thing with the "let's donate to this person who will remain unmentioned until he overloads the system with credits" get's on my nerves.

Erm, no. I'm not involved in this business at all - hell, I didn't even know about it until roughly an hour ago when I read this thread.

Go back to begging people for credits so you can be on the richest 10 people list (remember when you kept PMing me about that?) and keep out of things regarding a brain.

Why do you people insult me? I'm not being obnoxious at all, in fact I've hardly said anything in this thread with the exception of defending myself.

Let's all forget about arguments and laugh at these two PM's Sam sent me in desperation to be a point hoarder like me.

You said that you would not spend any points, so how about giving me 500-1000 points?
Why do you hoard them? Can you help me get to the 'top 10 richest persons' please? I need about 600-700 points.

I can see whats going on here. I keep seeing donate to thirk threads, people giving thirk points like tribute or something, and I agree with samfisher. I don't care if I had 999,999,999,999 Points as long as it wasn't stolen. Look everyone stop donating points to him. He's rich already and while he just spends it like an idiot you post and then donate it to him. Did he promise you great after life if you donated to him save your points. Thirk is not amazing. The best people on the JKII forums donn't have alot of points but they get alot of respect. They promise to keep the forums better for free just that you follow rules. I feel sorry for the people who keep trying give points to somebody who has no reason to get points.

GreenJeanz has got banned and deleted i belive. I looked for GJs msn and found it, i asked for the points back politely and she said Thrik needs them.

Then a supermod came on, and it went chaos from there. The thing is this matter has completely ruined a good addon to the forum, but now since it's got misused it will probally be removed.

All because of a few people, who can't control themselfs. Well done to them....

The system worked fine up until now, when some users quit using it the way it's supposed to be used.

*shakes head*

I just don't understand these people's motives. Why can't they just use the system properly, or if they don't approve, leave it alone? I really don't understand why they'd want to cause so much trouble for people who take it seriously.

It is indeed a sad day in our forum's history to see members resort to such devious tactics as that, and for what? To amass semi-useless and overrated points so that they may have their online handles immortalized in text on a website devoted to gaming, as the forum's "richest" member?

I have news for them, The richest members of these forums are those who govern themselves with genuine courtesy and honesty. Their status has nothing to do with the amount of points or posts they've accumulated, but rather by their constant helpfulness, friendliness, and kindness.

It is sad that some have chosen to validate themselves in such a manner as to beg for, scam, and outright steal points from others so that they might be made "great" in the eyes of themselves and their fellow forummers.

What may be sadder still, is the involvment in this dark plot by those members who have been appointed to a higher cause: Protecting the everyday forumer from such horrible acts. If this were not enough, it would seem that the community has seen fit to turn a blind eye to the whole situation and to even silence those who would speak out against these heinous individuals.

Indeed, the admins/mods response to this whole atrocity has been less than stellar, and as such, has caused the exodus of at least one well known, well spoken, and in most cases well loved members, if not more. These losses are unacceptable. These are people who have stood as pillars of light against a dark storm. They saw the darkness for what it was and stood tall as the storm battered, and beat them, and instead of the forum rallying to their aid, we sat back and found what little comfort we could in our apathy and ignored the calls of our fellow forummers and watched them perish in the swells of deception.

I believe it is safe to say, that many more may follow in the footsteps of those who have already left if the administration of these forums does not act rapidly, responsibly and righteously and respond with the great fervance needed to ensure such acts are not committed again. This is a community, and as such, should be found without such schemes and acts of deception.

Hear me forummers, do not wallow in indecision, do not be content to watch others fall fighting for your community! Throw off your blankets of apathy, and join me in seeking justice in this matter! We shall petition the admins/Mods to inflict grave disciplinary sanctions against those who have committed these foul acts to ensure a better future for Lucasforums! A future devoid of such lions' dens as these "scams"! Let's ensure trust will be not be totally lost among our forummers, and that this place can be the community it was once meant to be!

I think that the Point system should be demolished. I mean, in the echobase IRC channel Mattwindu what showing a good hack that could replace the point system that would be more fun. if that means we lose our Italic names, glowing names, sig images, and etc. I say GO FOR IT!! because this point system is BOGUS!!

but that is my two cents:D

That people sums it all up, something needs to be done. People are commiting these rule breaks, and nothing is being done. Instead all because a bunch of members cause damage to Lucasforums and the rest of us have to suffer.

First of this scam gos deeper, first of all the supermods of Mi all knew and some Moderators there set it up. One in particular Thirk and scabb they are partly responsible.

Also with give Thirk credits going on it has cleary got out of hand, things need to be sorted and we need to unite. This matter has been going on for months, the Monkey island forum, funny enough once again another issue is traced to them.

Anyone remember the porn issue, the policy issue. All support by those supermods. Something needs to be done now. Before the real damage does begin.

Erm, does that mean me? When I mentioned the flaming?
All I meant was that I think this is a Mod/Super Mod/Admin issue, and flaming the individuals concerned will only stir more trouble as well as being against the forum rules and ethics we're trying to enforce here.

Anyway, hypothetical question:
If the points system was abolished, would we all get glowy-names, italic names and sig-images for free?

Just wondering. Personally I don't think the system should be scrapped, I think it encourages a community of people who post often and who know each other better. As well as being an incentive for help and symbol of gratitude in more technical areas (donated points ~unprompted~ this morning to a guy who helped me with a query in the Valley).

But I do agree that this particular problem does seem to have been dragged out a bit. Although we don't know what's going on behind the scenes do we? ;)

Anyways, peace out,
B,

No, it is in reference to a certain individual's thread being closed when all she was doing was shedding light on the situation and laying bare, their scheme, for all of Lucasforums to see.

It is not for us we must see this to the end, but for Shannon. She has endured so much in her personal life as of late, and these forums are where she comes to unwind, seek guidance, relax, and in general, have fun. That experience has been ruined by a select few who believed themselves "above the law" and without reproach. She saw that for what it really was and spoke out, and for doing so she has only recieved heartache.

We must, and we will, stand against those who have committed, allowed, and/or continue to allow these activities to continue or those perpetrators of said acts walk freely without punishment.

I swear by all that is holy, Shannon, I will see this to the end. If it means my own banishment from these forums, so be it. You have been the epitomy of an upright forummer. Concerned in the well being of others and a true fellowship among friends. I will not let that legacy be tainted or lost.

I will speak to all who will listen and we will join togethor in the very spirit you embodied here on these forums. Togethor, what was once a still, small voice, will boom through these forums, reverberating from thread to thread until none have been without hearing our message and we will awake the sleeping giant within. They will listen, for they will have no other choice, and they will be made to act. Wether in our favor or not, they will act, and we shall see the future of these forums played out in a single moment, and may justice prevail in that moment so that we may look to our future as a community with a peace that comes from knowing everything is going to be alright, because good can still triumph of the wicked works of evil men...

Agreed, we must unite together. And see this through, we want the other people resonsible gone. And how can these people be moderators when they are not even doing there job.

No offense but spending time to try and break a store which belongs to a forum is really sad. And what else is sad many of them are not being punished. These certain issues are comming back and back.

And again are getting hidden until the next issue comes, i for one can't wait till the store gos. As bit by bit these troublemakers are being cut off. :D

But still many people will not agree, but overal changes have to happen.

I just want to wake everyone up to the harsh reality of it all. Credits are not real. They don't have any bearing on real life, or even on your forum standing.

If all goes as planned, the credit system will be revamped into something much different in the days (probably weeks) to come.

I have one quick thing to add. Havoc Stryphe, I closed the thread not because I condone the acts of the people that did junk, and before you go getting all Shakespear on me, you have to know why I closed it. I did so in order to prevent further discussion of this junk that's been going on. It's being handled, wheather or not you believe me is up to you, but it is.
