View Full Version : Dark Forces / Mercenary Kyle
07-03-2003, 05:26 PM
In case you haven't been tuned into the Dark Forces Mod Forum, my Kyle model is basically done now. It's an interpretation of Kyle from the original Dark Forces video game, and I think it turned out well. I might do a minor texture touch up or two, but that's about it.
I've decided since that there is already a 'Dark Forces Kyle" out there, I'll call my model "Mercenary Kyle". Just a name change for the file's public release....
Here's a couple of screens...
Cutscene Shots, 2 from Valley of the Jedi, 1 from Yavin before Desann. (http://wat.midco.net/eggnog1/ib-merc_kyle-cutscenes.jpg)
Regular Shots, Front and Back of default skin, Red and Blue team skins. (http://wat.midco.net/eggnog1/ib-merc_kyle-game.jpg)
I should be releasing it really soon, and thought I'd at least out the info out for those who might be interested.
It also sounds like there might be an update to the Dark Forces Mod Demo with this as well. If you're interested in the Dark Forces mod, check out it's forums, and the website once it's back up!

I just showed my brother, he said holy sh**. I said the same. Any particular release date? This is a VERY great model, and I CERTAINLY hope you make more.
07-03-2003, 05:40 PM
I definitely plan on making more.... :D
As far as a release date... this weekend earliest... next weekend latest... Give or take the time it takes to get it hosted.

Stuff gets instantly posted there.
Well...not INSTANTLY. :p
Stuff gets posted fast. :) Same with www.massassi.net ... Jk2files.com is just plain SLOW lately.
07-04-2003, 07:47 AM
Well, I'll probably submit it to a bunch of sites....
Anyway, I'm not worried about it just yet... I still have to slightly tweak one texture, pack it up, then write the readme....
07-04-2003, 04:49 PM
looks good man, really blew me away when i saw it
07-05-2003, 05:10 AM
Looks really, really good.
07-05-2003, 04:53 PM
Now I'll never play with nerf-herder Kyle again.
07-05-2003, 05:35 PM
Will you be including a SP replacment with this model?
07-05-2003, 06:28 PM
if he doesnt somebody will for sure
07-05-2003, 08:31 PM
I planned on it having an SP addition from the very beginning. I figure that if any model I make I'd like to play SP, I'll create a version for it.
The file I'll submit will have two pk3's included: One with the textures, multiplayer stuff, etc... Then one with the SP replacement.
To keep the size down, the SP replacement just points to the multiplayer version for all the texture data, so both pk3's need to be in the base folder at the same time for it to work. When you only want the multiplayer model, you just remove the SP pk3.
I've also included a first person lightsaber skin file and the fading arms texture...
07-05-2003, 10:09 PM
so will it take the place of normal kyle in multiplayer if you use the sp replacement?
07-05-2003, 10:59 PM
Yes.... There is a way I know of around that, but it has a couple drawbacks....
I can use the Npcs.cfg to point to the folder that contains my new model, but not only will that override any custom npcs.cfg that a person might already have, I also had a rather odd effect with some of the cutscene animations.
I figured that this method is best for now, and I don't think anyone would mind. All you have to do to turn it off is move/delete the sp replacement pk3 out of the base folder, and leave the regular pk3 there.

that is truly excellent work...
good luck with it, and any other future workings you grace jk2 with
(off topic: will you do any modelling for jedi academy, ive asked alot of modelers this recently)
07-06-2003, 12:28 PM
I think I'm going to try and figure out as much as I can about JO first. I might go to JA, but I'll have to see how things go... depends on my situation at the time.
07-14-2003, 10:31 PM
So, any updates? My brother and I are really looking towards this model....
07-15-2003, 03:38 AM

not trying to be rude or anything, but my friend has been waiting for this for a long, long time:D
07-15-2003, 11:55 AM
Nice work on the model, Infinity.
Can't wait for the DF TC either. :D

Mercenary Kyle has been submitted!
Just so you know, he's been sent to:
Look for him to show up sometime soon!
Hope you enjoy.
Edit: Added PC Game Mods to the list. If there is any other places you want it submitted to, just say so. Site's that now have the download available are marked with an asterisk. *

i tihnk jedi-outcast.com or jediknightii.net havent had any new files up for some time, pc game mods gets them up nearly instantaniously... well compared to jk2files
07-19-2003, 04:13 AM
Well, JKII.net I'm not even sure would post my files anyway, as they've deleted all the other submissions I've ever sent them that used to be on their file server... I even tried to resubmit them, and they never were made available....
Jedi-outcast.com is run by people I used to talk to and play a little JK with... I'm not sure what they do for file submissions... They might take a look at it soon, they might not. I'm pretty sure they'll at least take a peek.
JK2files.com is the best bet for file submissions. They tend to keep it up to date, and have the largest selection I've seen so far.
I suppose I'll upload it to http://www.pcgamemods.com too, just to make you happy... ;)
07-19-2003, 03:28 PM
kool, cant wait to get the model. Looks really good. ;)
07-19-2003, 03:34 PM
You think you could throw it up on your site just untill they upload it?
07-19-2003, 07:49 PM
I'd rather not do that....
Despite the fact that my free hosting service has steadily become more annoying.. (More pop-ups, seemingly less bandwidth), I still like to keep my small site up.
Until I can afford something better, my bandwidth is pretty limited. If I were to make it available... my short-term bandwidth limit would be hit in a matter of minutes, shutting down my site for several hours... almost half a day.
Thanks, Tripod....

EDIT: Wait no longer Here (http://files.massassi.net/md3/ib-merc_kyle.zip) is the d/l link.
07-20-2003, 12:07 AM
I'll update the post above where I have listing the download sites, as the model is made available there. And so you know, he is now available from jedi-outcast.com and massassi.net, as listed in the post above.
I hope you enjoy it, and I also hope he lives up to any expectations you might have.
07-20-2003, 12:11 AM
Well, I just got the final beta of Coleman Trebor. Although I should be using that and seeing any bugs, I'm using this. I love this model. All I can say is THANK YOU for releasing it before the mod.
07-20-2003, 04:22 AM
this is awesome!
07-23-2003, 03:21 AM
Thanks, I'm glad ya like it!
The only bad thing about it being available only at massassi and jedi-outcast.com, is that I can't tell how many have downloaded it. I'm just curious to see generally how many people are interested in the model....
Anyway, shouldn't be too long before it's on jk2files.
07-23-2003, 11:48 AM
I've told everyone I know about it.
07-24-2003, 03:23 AM
THis model is wicked, I slapped it into the DF demo that I didn't realize I still had, made a world f difference.
07-24-2003, 05:21 AM
the model is great!
I love this one compared to the old kyle model, so I use this one in SP too:D
Nearly every file place is down! Pcgamemods and jk2files.com is down.. :( But I got it from jedi-outcast.com so.. Meh :xp:
07-24-2003, 03:00 PM
i got the model, and im happy to say IT OWNZ!
07-25-2003, 12:16 AM
thanks a bunch infinity blade youve got me playing SP again.... this model rocks so much
07-25-2003, 02:27 AM
i feel the same way crowy!:D
07-30-2003, 02:56 AM
I sincerely hope that we can port over JK2 models to Jedi Academy upon it's release. (without too much difficutly). This is one model I want to use in that game! Great job.
07-30-2003, 03:34 AM
actually, you can!
i guess the guys at Raven thought of this too and theres gonna be some kind of importer thing which allows this.
its right here in this url...
08-04-2003, 02:15 AM
