View Full Version : Monkey Island Soundtracks
07-13-2003, 06:04 PM
I finally managed to put a site up, where you can preview and download my self-made "Monkey Island Soundtrack"-covers.
Here's the link:
The Soundtrack CD Covers of Monkey Island (http://fh.hiyacorp.com/neohosting/CaptainSolo/)
I have started uploading the soundtrack of "Monkey Island 2". I created MP3s from the brilliantly arranged Highland-Productions MIDIs (using several soundfonts). I will post the links here in the forum when they are ready.
Let me know what you think about the site, and if you're interested in the other soundtracks as well. (since some sites of the Mix-n-Mojo network already have them online, I think it's no problem to upload them somewhere else too).
07-13-2003, 06:21 PM
That's nice looking - good job.
07-13-2003, 06:25 PM
Very nice, I really like those covers.
[Edit, you have to right click > save as target to get the full covers. You dont have the inside covers there either]
07-13-2003, 07:28 PM
I demand your Monkey Island 2 soundtrack >:
Also, very nice site.
07-13-2003, 07:37 PM
The inside-covers are together within the outside covers... you have to fold it twice after printing (or cut them up in a image editing program before printing them, and glue them together - back to back).
And thanks for the kind words... I am still uploading the MI2-soundtrack... they'll be up soon.

07-13-2003, 09:59 PM
I KISS YOU! I kiss you on the face!
I will begin downloading at wake-up time tomorrow.
I love you Laserschwert. Don't ever change.
07-13-2003, 10:02 PM
It's sad that I get that from guys only...
Anyways, thanks ;)
(mmh... I probably shouldn't wink in this situation)
07-13-2003, 10:07 PM
I'm having to restrain my rampant fanboyism here. Bloody brilliant, there arent enough verbs for me to express my excitement sufficently.
07-13-2003, 10:09 PM
Don't you mean adjectives?
Nevertheless, you're welcome. But don't get excited before listening to them.
07-13-2003, 10:11 PM
Indeed I do, its late, im tired and the temptation to delete my post and hide my shame is immense. It does however give me a chance to use the shifty eye smiley :¬:
07-13-2003, 11:11 PM
Do you have any links to the files themselves? They don't seem to be downloading properly when I click that form button (it tries to open it from location which takes bloody ages)
Brilliant job though.
07-13-2003, 11:29 PM
Wow, these are great! :)
07-14-2003, 06:28 AM
Unfortunately there's no other way than linking to those download pages. Yes, those servers are rather slow, but they are the only free webspace I know that has unlimited upload space AND accepts MP3-files...
Unless someone provides me with some webspace (around 140MB for the MI2-soundtrack, or 375MB for all four soundtracks) I can't upload them somewhere else... sorry.
07-14-2003, 08:19 AM
So, can anyone here host the guy's files? :D
07-14-2003, 08:51 AM
Am I the only one who, upon being told that right-click and "Save As" didn't work, immediately right-clicked on one of the files and tried to "Save As"?
07-14-2003, 09:44 AM
Nice work, Laserschwert!
When Mojo's back online, you should get hosted by them. I don't think there's a problem with that. You've done something which I think I've never seen done in the community before.
07-14-2003, 12:40 PM
Well, thanks very much.
It would be great if Mojo would host the site (and maybe they offer me enough webspace for all the soundtracks).
Actually, I am planning on turning the site into a "LucasArts Soundtrack" site... because I have already finished the Sam & Max soundtrack (I posted the links in this forum too, but it's been a while, and right now, the server seem to be down). Plus I have started on the DOTT-soundtrack as well, so maybe such a site might work out (including more self-made covers, of course).
Just keep the encouragement coming, and maybe some comments and criticism on the MI2-soundtrack... "Favourite cues", or "what I messed up"... let me know.
07-14-2003, 12:54 PM
.. can you do some kind of amiga edit? you know in MI 1 they used TFMX and real samples (Music and SFX) .. i ripped back in the days with my ACTION REPLAY III (rul) and never got a play who could play it. NOW i have one (the only one for dosbox) .. but i already recongized they got them MP3ed at the Scummbar ..
So they did with MI2 but they used iMuse with real Samples.. (e.g. blowing the horn at Booty)
I like Amiga sound much more than that PC-Synth ..
ps. i had no time listen to some yet, but i WILL for sure.
In front of a fire, next to Zoom Rabbit with a glass of vine..
07-14-2003, 01:23 PM
It takes ages to download a single MP3 . . . that is, if the server doesn't decide to suddenly stop working in the middle of my download. It keeps doing that, and I'm really frustrated. I've tried maybe ten times to get the MP3 of "The Swamp" and I still don't have it!
How on earth do you guys download these things? A download manager or something?
07-14-2003, 02:33 PM
Sam & Max soundtrack thread (http://www.lucasforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=97581)
There used to be a Indiana Jones And The Fate Of Atlantis soundtrack (http://www.draggor.com/V8/music/vg_ijfa.asp), but - as you will notice upon clicking the link - it appears to be down. Temporarily?
As for the downloads, I didn't have any server trouble. It is slow and only allows 10 downloads at a time. But standard Internet Explorer has a lock that prevents more than 2 downloads from one server at a time. You'll have to edit the registry (http://www.nthelp.com/50/IElimitation.htm). I guess a download manager won't help, since the site doesn't support normal downloads ("save as"). It wants to display lots of ads (pop-ups -> Pop-Up Stopper (http://www.panicware.com)).
edit: Danke für den Soundtrack, Laserschwert. Gefällt mir sehr gut!
07-14-2003, 02:40 PM
Wow, these are truly works of art! I'm not sure whether to sacrifice 100 ostriches to you or myself...
07-14-2003, 04:13 PM
I'm currently in the process of mirroring the files on the Grim Fandango Network, which is just as good as mojo since it's on the same server. :D
CD1 has just finished and you can check it out here (http://www.grimfandango.net/mi2). CD2 will be along in roughly an hour.
07-14-2003, 05:10 PM
Okay, all of them are up now. If his mirror doesn't work out for you I'm sure that this one will ease the pain.
07-14-2003, 05:15 PM
Oh my good god, Thrik... thanks!!!!!!!
One question, are you able to host them permanently? Because if so, I would edit my site, and add a download page (linking to the files on the GF-Network-mirror)... you can take down your download page then (which I would prefer *g*)... but it's so great that you did it, thank you so much!!
@Alien426: Keine Ursache... und danke für das Lob.
Oh yeah, by the way, what does it take to get your site hosted by Mojo? And do they provide you with webspace and stuff? Just curious...
07-14-2003, 05:28 PM
OK, me again (and no two edits for me... :D )...
Thrik, could I just upload the missing file to your FTP directly? Or maybe you have the file yourself (it's that orchestral remix from HighLand Productions)... if not, I could up it, since that Come2Snore-lameass of a server just wouldn't upload it, though it's below the limit of 10MB per file (it's actually close to 9MB).
07-14-2003, 05:59 PM
ok.. i'really hot now laserschwert .. hmm. i'm at home and riding on my 56K .. and have to wait until tomorrow to get it all ..
because i waited 50minutes to get "Elaine and Guybrush" (i just had to get it!) .. it actually is very COOL!
but not the DL.. :dozey: but thank thrik (btw, how did you get your head back???) i can use my mighty dslpowers at work tomorrow .. ARRR!!
07-14-2003, 06:16 PM
I'm afraid that I cannot let you have ftp access due to it being on the GFN's main FTP (which is very private :)) but if you email the file to me or upload it to your own webspace I will be happy to up it.
Also, these files may be moved to the SCUMM Bar's ftp (since that too is on the same server) when it returns, but until then it will remain where it is now. So in short, yes, it is a pretty permanent host. ;p
It's the least I could do for you doing all of these.
07-14-2003, 06:18 PM
As for Mojo hosting, I'm not the man to speak to. You'll need to get in contact with the Mojo cronies to request hosting and to find out their terms. :D
07-14-2003, 06:45 PM
Great, I'll include a download page for the soundtrack on my site then.
Well, since Mojo has crashed, I bet they have LOTS of free webspace (ah, nothing about some good saracasm :p ). But seriously, I think I'll contact them.
As for mailing the missing MP3... does your mailbox take a 9MB file without hassle? If yes, I am impressed, if not, I'll try to upload it to the webspace where I put my site on... it has no upload limit either, but they don't accept MP3s... so don't be suprised when I send you a link to a 9MB *.doc-file :D
Thanks for all your help!
07-14-2003, 06:49 PM
Yep, my email can handle that. Although I would prefer a download since it'd be faster, either is fine. It's totally up to you.
07-14-2003, 07:05 PM
OK, I'll go with the mail-way... it's one less upload for me, and I don't have to worry about losing my account.
So, what's you e-mail?
07-14-2003, 07:27 PM
07-14-2003, 07:43 PM
These MP3s are great! I love them! Laserschwert, I salute you for making this soundtrack. It's just beautiful.
And Thrik, I am much indebted to you for enabling me to actually download the files before I become eligible for senior-citizen benefits.
(Just to illustrate this, it took me 50 minutes to download a 4mb file from Laserschwert's server. And that's on broadband!)
The only things I can suggest are maybe uploading the beach tune from Dinky Island, or creating MP3s of the 3 MIDI tracks Telarium got from the MI2 demo (in the "MI2 Demo Secrets" (http://www.lucasforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=104653) thread). Otherwise, I'd say the soundtrack is almost perfect.
I'm looking forward to your future creations.
07-14-2003, 09:40 PM
All right, I tried mailing you the file, but my mailserver wasn't so happy about the file-size, so I'll probably go the other way: uploading it to my webspace (but tomorrow).
As for the 3 demo-MIDIs... sure, I'll convert them... but I am not sure if I will include them on my site, because they interfere mith my cover :D (but since Thrik is hosting the other files, he can of course upload them to the GFN webspace). I guess those files will be small enough for me to mail them to you. But now I am going to bed.
(By the way, my site is now including the links to the MP3s... the ones on the GFN server.)
Wow, what great tracks. You've done such a good job on them.
Have you done a MI1 soundtrack yet? Any plans to? Might be worth a thought if you haven't, judging by these it would definitly be worth considering....
I love the soundtrack itself but it appears I can't currently acess your site, and so can't see any of the covers you've made. Is it just me? or is there a new link?
I'm having the same problem...
Maybe it's just down at the minute?
07-15-2003, 01:10 PM
Okay, two things to note.
Firstly, I had to reupload Track 17 of CD1 and Track 18 of CD2 due to them both having a large portion cut off because of them not uploading properly. This is fixed now and you can redownload them.
Secondly, the files will be moving to the SCUMM Bar (www.thescummbar.com) ftp as soon as possible, so if these links die they will on there.
07-15-2003, 01:52 PM
Well, it appears as if the server is down... I hope it won't last long. I hoped I finally found a server which would keep my site for a while (actually I had setup a mirror, which was working yesterday, but today the host itself has a completely different homepage, and no word mentioned about the free webspace they offered... great.)
As for the MI1-soundtrack, I wasn't actually considering to convert that one too, since there are already MP3 files of them on the web (the ones from the Monkey Island CD version). So I was planning (given that I would ever have the necessary webspace) on uploading those. But I'll think about it.
07-15-2003, 01:53 PM
These are great, even if there is a little too much pan flute for my tastes.
When can we expect the missing track 16 from CD 2 to be ready?
07-15-2003, 02:31 PM
Okay, the files have been moved to the Scumm Bar. You will have to change your URLs I'm afraid if you're linking to them.
The html file will remain on the GFN, but the actual files are now moved. Enjoy :p
07-15-2003, 07:16 PM
All right, I found out that my host deleted all accounts, because they installed a new file-manager. So I'm re-uploading the site right now (including the missing MP3 for Thrik to put up).
And thanks for moving the files, Thrik.
All should be up and running again in about an hour or so.
Thanks for your support, and keep the comments coming!
OK, maybe not in an hour... their automated sign-up system should sent me my activation password any minute... or hour... or within this week. So the site stays down for the time being.
By the way, is there a staff member from the "Scumm Bar" here, that I can contact concerning them hosting the files?
07-15-2003, 08:52 PM
Right here, princess. ;-*
07-15-2003, 11:12 PM
Bloody typical. You sit around waiting for something interesting to happen, and it only comes around when you're on holiday. Oh well, time to start downloading...
By the way, I haven't been able to load the site with the cd covers on, but I made a great cover for a Monkey Island 1 CD I made. If you go here (http://www.geocities.com/adventuregamescollection/) and click miscellaneous, then soundtracks there's a picture of it.
07-16-2003, 08:45 AM
Thanks very much for this great soundtrack! I'm waiting for download the covers. :D
07-16-2003, 11:11 AM
RemiO! I should've known it.
First of all thanks for hosting, and second of all... "interested" in hosting some more files? Or better: "kind enough to let a kiss-ass waste your precious webspace with MP3s he doesn't want to waste his precious HD space"?
07-16-2003, 01:47 PM
Sure, we'll take it. Thrik seems to have been doing a good job with it so far, so I'll let him deal with it. ;-*
07-16-2003, 08:20 PM
Oh wow...This is the best news since CMI! Of the several tracks I've listened to so far...AMAZING. It's like finding a whole pile of Michael Land music that we never knew existed. The Highland MIDI's were/are great, but this is just too much.
And I just got my DSL working again too. Joy! :monkey4:
Can't wait to see the covers when they get hosted.
Laserschwert, may you enjoy a long and prosperous life, my friend. Can't wait to indulge in Sam & Max and your upcoming projects as well!
07-16-2003, 09:08 PM
I'll second the notion for the Dinky Island tunes. In fact, I think both tunes, The Beach and The Jungle, are some of the best music in the game. However, very few MP3s or MIDIs of those exist.
Recently I listened to Brian Eno's Ambient 1: Music for Airports. Track 4, called 2/2, sounded a bit like the Jungle music and I got so nostalgic that I played through MI2 again (I don't really play any games any more you see). I do however relish game music that reminds me of all the memories of playing these great games. Nice work!
07-17-2003, 10:46 AM
Thank you guys.
I've been rather busy, so no covers for you, yet.
But I'll try to get it fixed before the weekend. And since there's so much hassle uploading my files to the webspace I used (and even MORE hassle downloading them): Isn't there a way to give me a "visitors account" on the Scummbar-FTP? It really would make things a lot easier.
Plus, how much space could I use? I mean, the four Monkey Island soundtracks themselves would take up about 380MB... plus the Sam & Max soundtrack with additional 60MB (and maybe the DOTT-soundtrack sometime later... maybe again around 60 more megabytes).
Anyway, concerning that Dinky-island tune... is it one of those 3 MIDI-files from the demo, or is there a MIDI-file of it somewhere else?
07-17-2003, 01:13 PM
By the Dinky Island tunes, we don't mean any of the three odd tunes from the demo. Rather, that refers to the music that plays in the final game when you land on the Dinky Island beach and when you wander around its forest in search of the X.
07-17-2003, 01:51 PM
And that tune can't be ripped from the game just like the other tunes?
07-17-2003, 01:57 PM

I don't think that should be a problem, other than the fact that we're currently kinda site-less. I'll see if I can get DJG to set something up.
07-17-2003, 02:05 PM
Of course they can be ripped from the game . . . they're in the game, after all.
I just didn't say that they could because I didn't know how you were making these MP3s, and so I didn't know if you based them off of tunes from the game, or from MIDIs on the Internet, or what.
07-18-2003, 09:32 AM
Well, I was using the MIDIs from HighLand Productions, so I wonder why they haven't ripped that Dinky Island one (or if they did, why I don't have it)...
Concerning the FTP, that would be fantastic. But as I said, I could easily fill 600 MB with my stuff... and don't worry about not having a site, because I will put the links up on my site, if it's ok.
07-18-2003, 09:34 AM
Because they don't. :p
On a related note, the LeChuck's Fortress theme in the demo is pretty cool. You should totally convert that.
07-20-2003, 01:22 AM
First things first:
The Soundtrack CD Covers of Monkey Island (http://www.jc-hosting.co.uk/users/CaptainSolo/index.html)
I hope it'll stay up for now.
07-20-2003, 07:50 AM
I thought it interesting that, upon closer inspection, the section labeled Dinky Island tunes on your CD covers, only has tunes from Monkey Island (All the tunes occur after he has found Big Whoop and is in the tunnels under Monkey Island).
I suggest you do not change the title of that section, simply add some tunes...
07-20-2003, 12:14 PM
Well, I used a walkthrough of the game to find the right sections (and those were all the chapter names). But anyway, I am not planning on redoing the covers... I guess.
07-20-2003, 07:06 PM
Ah, I finally get to see the covers! They're good, but can I make a suggestion? Make some CD covers. Anyone who owns a stomper, or presser or whatever you call them, could print them off and stick them onto the CD to make it look even better. Thats what I did with my Monkey Island soundtrack.
is anyone else having problems downloading the .jpg's for MI2 (and all of them really.. ) im on a t1 line and it will start downloading fine then, seemingly randomly, it will act like its finished and im left with a partial jpg .. this is really frustrating!!! could someone possibly mirror them on a more reliable server somewhere?
07-23-2003, 08:59 PM
I'm having the exact same problem. The downloads start out fine, but then quit for no apparent reason after 1%. Bit annoying, really.
07-24-2003, 05:48 AM
I had the same problem, i fixed this by copying the shortcuts and pasting it in a download manager. Then i just 'resumed' like 15 times before i totally had it.
07-25-2003, 12:54 PM
Yeah, I am sorry... but as a matter of fact, the server is crap.
I've been rather busy this week, and so I hadn't had a chance to deal with it, but I'll try changing the host (again) this weekend.
Sorry for the inconveniences, and thanks for your interest in my stuff...
07-28-2003, 05:25 AM
Yep Great work you have done! :) Thanks a lot!
Hope you get last mp3 ready soon.
I think you've uploaded the images to the server in the wrong way. and so we can't download them. Are you sure your uploading them in binary mode. Well thats what the proplem looks like it could be in to me but I'm not completely sure.
07-29-2003, 08:45 PM
Well, I DID upload them in binary mode... but we won't have to care about that anymore... because I have MOVED!!
The Soundtrack CD Covers of Monkey Island (http://www.scummbar.com/mi2/site/index.html)
(final URL... for the time being... hopefully)
So, thanks to RemiO for helping me with setting up the site on the ScummBar-server.
The covers are still uploading, so you should be be able to get them in an hour or two.
But therefore the last MP3 from my MI2-soundtrack is online (Track 16 on CD 2). Just go to the download page on my site. Enjoy!

Download (300dpi, CMYK):
Monkey Island 2 - Front Cover (4.41 MB)
Monkey Island 2 - Back Cover (1.51 MB)
Those 2 still don't work....

What do you mean? Does the download quit before finishing?
Because I just started the download, and see no problem...
07-30-2003, 02:17 PM
He's right, I just get a broken image when I click 'em.
07-30-2003, 06:09 PM
You have to right-click and save them... I don't know why left-clicking it doesn't work (for me left-clicking results in a broken image at ALL the covers, not just MI2).
I thought about putting the covers in a ZIP (which wouldn't change much in terms of size, but would force a download window to pop-up)...
07-30-2003, 06:16 PM
Well, duh, yes, that makes sense. Guess IE doesn't get CMYK images. :¬:

All right... It's about time...
I finally have all four Monkey Island soundtracks up. My site now has download pages for all of them (not pretty... but I'll redo the whole thing sometime).
Mmh... is this worth a sticky thread?
07-31-2003, 09:26 AM
You really made my day with those soundtracks!!!
Thanks a lot for sharing them.
Thanks to the Scummbar for providing them with highspeed (100 kb/s -> I LOVE my work internet connection...)!
Any other Soundtracks we can look forward to in the future? :p
07-31-2003, 09:35 AM
Well, glad I could make your day *g*
And in fact, yes, there's more to expect, as soon as the Mojo-network is up and working again. I am planning to turn the site from a "Monkey Island Soundtrack"-site into a "LucasArts Soundtrack"-site. What that means? Well, "Sam & Max Hit the Road", "Day of the Tentacle" and "Fate of Atlantis" are coming to MP3.
At least that's the plan. But plans sometimes don't work out, so don't quote me here.

All right, yesterday night I received an e-mail telling me, that my Monkey Island 2 soundtrack - along with the other three soundtracks - is now available on several file-sharing sites...
I am not sure whether to feel honored, or offended... well, I pick the first one :D
08-17-2003, 03:20 PM
Hmmmm. It rather surprised me that you don't have that big, long, 9 minute Final Showdown MP3 from EFMI. It's from one of those cutscenes at the end...
Otherwise, nice going!
08-18-2003, 06:32 PM
Uhm... it's there! I just called it "Closing Medley" and added the Monkey Island theme to the end of it...

Well, since I started my Monkey Island Soundtrack Site I got a LOT of really nice e-mails from all around the world. But the nicest of them all arrived just today, and I would like to share it with you:
Subject: U is a batty!
Your site is s*** (The monkey island one)
You are so unbelievably gay to have sa there and recorded every single song from MI. YOU IS A POOF (PS U IS THICK TO NOT KNOW HOW TO GET RID OF SOUND EFFECTS) and ........................... you have a non-existent breast (decency of website) which is ****e!
Isn't that just lovely? http://www.cool-pix-world.de/smilie/00000125.gif
By the way, I am pretty thankful for having non-existent breasts, since I am a guy...
But wait! After I replied to him he wrote more!
nice to know that u is a wank face - add this to your site poofta -
alert('I am gay');
(just in case your too thick to know - you add it in the HEAD of the document!!!)
It's nice to know that you consider an 11 year old kid who knows HTML, Java, CGI and VbScript to be thick as well.
F*** you a**-wipe.
Oh, that little guy is soooo cute...
By the way, his e-mail is Chapplej03@aol.com if you would like to drop him a line.
He sent me a lot more mails... a lot of s- and f-words in there. Oh, he's just so cuuuuuute. And although he probably isn't 11, he surely acts like one...

I will download all when I have time, like possibly a week, since mojo is being weep-inducingly slow at the moment. ;( Er, LOLz!!1
You should provide some of those .m3u things, so the lazy broadband types among us can kill the server even more by streaming everything! No, really! ;)
Er, rofllolzmao, etc.

Dr Who related avatars make me want to stab things.
Doctor Who avatars win.
Won't you join us (http://www.lucasforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=97635), everyone?

Scabb is right, they suck. All Dr Who fans must die a slow and painful death¬

Dr Who avatars should be considered equivalent to Matrix avatars. Which is to say that those using them should be beaten around the groin with pool cues.
