Ok,
We've seen that LEGIONS of star wars/trek fans can babble on for days on which technology is better, Enterprise vs. ISD, etc.
What I want to know is what YOU think about Stargate (you know, the big round thing that looks like a horizontal swimming pool that u jump through and get hurtled around the galaxy), and Dune, the books where you wonder how the heck humans can go so far in teh future and worry about water.
ok, heres my analysis:
Goa'uld-Jaffa Warrior (with staff weapon and armor)
vs.
Fremen (trained in weirding ways) with crysknife and sheilding
I think the Fremen would win this one.
Since ANY kind of intensly packed energy hitting a Dune-shield CAN create a nuclear explosion, the combatants would be forced to hand-to-hand combat. The Jaffa would have to come up with tactics for the Fremen's shields pretty quickly. However, the Fremen would find it easier, because the Jaffa only has metal (ok, naquada) armor. The Fremen would only need to slip the knife into the Jaffa's throat, while the Jaffa is busy trying to figure out why is extremely-fast staff thrusts dont go through the **** shield!!!
-----
Goa'uld Glider vs. Ornithopter
From what I can make of it, Ornithopters arent even made of metal (or maybe they are?!?!? ya i think they are) but actually have (get this) FLAPPING wings. whoa. I dont think the 'thopters are even armed, making them easy prey for the supersonic, double-staff-weilding gliders.
----------
Lets not even consider the humans (the SG-1 team) in this, because they're mostly less-advanced than BOTH of the above cultures. (OR, maybe I'm wrong and you'd like to launch a fiery retort at me)
Dune Advantages:
More highly-trained and less-fanatical warriors (excepting when they get fanatical under Maud'Dib)
Remember the Saudaukar?
Whoop-@$$ sociological/philosophical structure (1 religion that everybody follows in some way or another) plus, the "Gods" in Stargate are very un-Godly.
Spice
Spice also in the fact that the Guild Navigators can bend space so that a ship with thousands of people can have near-instantaneous travel (I havent really read much about the workings of the Dune space travels system).
---------------
Stargate Advantages:
Weapons-grade Naquada
Staff weapons (IF UNSHIELDED ENEMIES!!!)
Motherships
Replicators (if they're on the Stargate side)
Superior spacecraft in general
None of those pesky sandworms... (Where's my jumbo-size flyswatter???)
-------------------------------
So all in all, I can't really say who'd win.
Give it a shot. post on this thread.
Have fun!
