You've probably already heard about this annoyance. Anyway, here's a good article that was shown to me by another moderator:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/3169573.stm

In just the last two days, I recieved 587 emails with attachments that were infected by the worm (sadly this is typical for the last few days).

Of course now I have a system setup with Eudora Pro and Norton 2003 where any emails infected with it are automatically filtered to my trash, quarantined, and then deleted. Thus I can keep track of how many copies I get and none of them can do any harm.

I just have to make sure I check my email at least once a day (or keep the program running in the background all the time).

solution to viruses. don't use email, use instant messenger programs. if you need to recieve an e-mail, tell the person to put a specific subject, or tell them what to put. don't open any mail that you don't know of who it's from. if you are stupid enough to open e-mail from someone you don't know or it has a stupid subject name then you deserve to get the virus.:)

I heard about it when I checked my e-mail. My service provider warned me of such a threat, and they were gonna have a maintenance check some day this month, which was cancelled due to such a hazard. Luckily, I followed instructions, downloaded the fix for it and the Welchia virus, and also happen to have Norton Anti-Virus, just for such an occasion.

Thankfully, I've not been in the situation (yet) where I've been flooded with emails. I do run Norton Antivirus, and Zone Alarm is always running when I access the net these days (which filters out some of the stuff). Also, my ISP BTinternet has security measures in place to trap some email viruses before they even reach my mail box - they delete the attached viruses and then send a notification. If more ISPs had more robust virus scanning in place across the board, then maybe the profileration of these viruses and worms would not be so pronounced. If you can catch them before they even get to the end user...then the worm/virus can't activate and send itself to all the people in the user's address book.

I think it's just a sad situation that people try and get their kicks this way.

Why do people make things like this? It's just so damn stupid. I mean, jeezuz, it's so stupid. Heh, I'm gonna make a virus just because I'm an a-hole and I can.

Stupid heads;)
