Like all the civs in SWGB, they're well balanced, so that no one civ is inherently better than any other. Ideally you should learn to play with all the civs anyway.

Darth Windu
09-03-2003, 11:30 AM
Yeah, you really should play with all the civs, otherwise they'll start throwing tantrums.
Once, i didnt play the Royal Naboo for quite a while and they went on strike, i had to give them a 5% pay increase just to shut them up...

Seriously though the manual and in-game info tells you who is better at what, basically the Republic is strong in Jedi and Infantry, and Confederacy are strong in Mechs and Infantry. I think.

Jango_Fett_UK
09-03-2003, 04:19 PM
well i do think the republic is a well ballanced force but the only problem is that their mechs are a pit slow but good fire power but jedi are the heart or a army but the confed are awsumly relaint on mechs and troops but not much of a fan in the air

One thing, don't use air cruisers, they suck.period.

Second thing, both Republic and Confederacy have strenghts and weaknesses. However, never forget to exploit your civ's weaknesses as much as its strenghts.

DK_Viceroy

Confederacy has Stronger Troops But Republic can make their normal l;aser troopers better while the confedreacy has all troopers stronger so the upgrade is more cost effective the confederacy has better than average mechs not the best but better than average they do have the BEST heavy weapons in the ENTIRE game however. and then they get an economic tech in tech 4 which really allows them to powerhouse while the republic gets an air cruiser speed upgrade and better med droids which i don't think anybody ACTUALLY uses so it's up to you but the confederacy are more effective wehn used correctly and are really an Clone Wars Grade Rebel Alliance in terms of strengths and weaknesses

lukeiamyourdad

Alright:

1- Confederacy do have stronger troopers but Republic can pump their troopers out with incredible speed.

2- Confederacy Heavies aren't the best. They only have the best AA mobile that's all. Gungan, Trade Federation and Wookiee heavies are overall better.

The republic has the heavy advantage of Jedi Master(they are too strong for a cost too low). You can pump out masters and convert a lot of things on the way.
Although both civs are well balanced, a Master civ seems to have the advantage a lot of times.

Wow, Windu's on a funny streak...

Its really which ever one fits you best. The Confeds don't really get much of their strength until t3 and t4, whereas the Reps start off pretty strong, and don't really get weaker.

lukeiamyourdad

He has changed man you can't blame the guy for changing.

Like the Trade Fed is kind of the best example. They are the best early game civ buit later one they do have a tendency to get slightly weaker.

I DEFINETLY agree on the masters being too cheap though i find though that Confderacy Repeater Super Battle Droids when fully upgraded. Are an effective counter more effective than bounty hunters anyway just put up a sentry post and surround it with the Super Repeater Battle Droids. They do work i held off and invasion force of 200 jedi with them i just had a few troop centers near by my army was replensihed must faster for a smaller cost evtualy my enemy was so darained he fell easily to the force of assault mechs i'd began to build. Heavy Weapons ARE VERY USEFUL that goes without saying i usually have to resort to siege warfare and instead of overloading the defnces it's cheaper, just to siege the place. Confederacy Artillery seems to have better range and a smaller gap in between volleys and firing a few extra shots per minute can make or break. NEVER underestimate any aspect of the game even the weakest air civ can score an airborne victory if deployed right ALL experienced gamers know something like that it's the player that uses them that decides how good the civ is. Also it's only the laser troopers that come out faster while the Confederacy gets all their troopers upgraded not just laser troopers i would rathr have a stronger army than an army that comes out to fast that i can't deploy it effectiveley. That Tech is easily balanced out if you build more troop centers. The Confederacy is one of the best in tech 4 I think their economy really starts to boom especially with Geonosian Dilligence which is important in a tech level where a lot of units cost a lot of resources. The Geonosian wearrior i will admit is crap i usually use em for airborne scouts or harrasment of troop convoys or workers. They aree a bit cheaper the confedearcy air so they sometimes worth it.

Umm..Viceroy, don't want to critisize you again (my sig is long too), but maybe you could not have a space between each of your sayings in your sig, or use a smaller font or something, cause your sig nearly takes up the entire page.

soo soo far its the republic winning (exellent) and the only problem is that most of the confed army is built around mechs but thats a good thig is it because say im fighting the confed with the republic and they got a loada mechs and quite a few troops but i have loads and loads of troops but few mechs but my advantage the AIR forces are probably the best chance i got fighting the confed? well keep descussing it

oh yeah as darth windu said sumtimes do have to play other civ's to but i hate being the gungans and wookies but im ok with the rest seems i play the emipre and the trade alot then its the alliance and the naboo

I HATE GUNGANS!:jarjar::snipe1:

lukeiamyourdad
09-07-2003, 05:12 PM
hmmmm...

Air is a definite advantage but this is a confed vs. republic thread so I won't mention the trade fed.

The confed do have the best AA mobile(if fully upgraded) in the whole game so perhaps an Air only force is a bad idea. You can mass up troopers all you want but AA mobiles and Geonosian Warriors will decimate your clones.

It's very constructive to say I hate Gungans;)

Viceroy-Sith is right your sig is f*****' long. Most of your points are good except for the fact that confed artillery shoots further which is not true because wookiee artillery has the longest range not confed.

Jango_Fett_UK
09-09-2003, 07:23 PM
well no air superiortiy for me wen i face the confed:(

But another question is do the confed who stride all exellency towards their mechs have good mechs? well the dwarf spider droid i.e the strike mech is slow but kool:P

the best thing the republic is their ability to create troopers with incrediable speed and eficancy but they do have the tendancy to have a army of all troops which isnth a bright idea seemins you neefd heavy weapons and mechs to support them

Please Quote Where I Say That There Range Is Superior To The Wookies I Never Say Those Exact Words.

And Also Jango Proves My Point About Your Average Gamer Hating The Gungans I Think I Might Put Up A Poll I Hope Gamers On The Zone Answer It Since I Consider Them The Ones Who Have The Right And Them Alone To Decide On The Civs Not People Who Have Never Played On The Zone.

Well that's nice, isn't it! Just because our computers are too old or our connections too slow to play on the wonderful Zone suddenly we are totally incapable of telling whether Gungans are good or not. Or maybe, as in my case, we have a group of friends who share our love for Galactic Battlegrounds who we prefer to play against rather than with strangers on the Zone. Windu must be so glad you've come to join our forum, Viceroy, because suddenly the stuff he says doesn't seem so dumb. (Sorry Windu)

...i'm gonna go cry now...

seriously though, i dont think anything ive ever said was stupid, just a little misguided at times.

Also, Viceroy, was the nickname 'Master of Disaster' given to you by your English teacher?

DK_Viceroy
09-10-2003, 03:38 PM
I'm not saying anything like that ALL i'm saying is that a large group of gamers like the zone should have the final say of what goes in the game.

lukeiamyourdad
09-10-2003, 09:44 PM
Windu- Eh you've changed lately. Or is it just Viceroy's shadow that hides you?

Viceroy- What tells you the Zone players represents a larger group then the non-zone players?

This isn't BF1942 or Galaxies, games that have been made exclusively for Multiplayer.
Single Player is played by a very large group(if not larger then the multiplayer one).

Oh only zone players have the right to decide how thing should be done?
What's next?
Women shouldn't have the right to vote?
Non-white people should have no rights and be considered inferior?

Darth Windu
09-11-2003, 03:57 AM
I completely aree with you luke.

Viceroy - so you are saying that just because i have better things to do than play SWGB online, i shouldn't have a say on what goes into a sequel? That is an incredibly arrogant and self-serving statement, even from you, and personally i am rather offended by it.

Admiral Vostok
09-11-2003, 09:43 AM
Also, Viceroy, was the nickname 'Master of Disaster' given to you by your English teacher?

Sorry again, Windu, I never really thought everything you said was dumb, and the above quote proves that much of what you say nowadays is far from it. Even if you once were "misguided", you haven't been for a while, even before Viceroy the Forum Nazi (herding non-Zone players into concentration camps).

DK_Viceroy
09-11-2003, 09:45 PM
I Never said anything about it being ZONE exclusive just not having the final say from a biased group seems better. Usually groups of people only single other people out when they know that that person is right. ALL i merely want is that the Wants of the majority should out weigh the wants of the minority meaning that a poll should be put up somehwere an independant poll on anohter site maybe on lucas arts site where it has simple clear cut choices there's too many blurry lines around here like it says in my sig it's all one way or another. YOU cannot truly make a good game if your uncertain you need to have definite clear cut ideas that don't change every 2 secinds someone attempts to put you down or make you feel like your something someone stepped in.

Darth Windu
09-12-2003, 02:49 AM
Viceroy - do you realise that here, you are the minority, and so by following your own advice, we should ignore your views?

DK_Viceroy
09-12-2003, 04:22 PM
Only Here Windu Am I in the minority outisde this forum I am in the majority many people think there should be EU civs they were going to post but after seeing you and vostok in your frequent cat fights were put off posting to a bunch of people that'd turn on eahc other for their own interests. Many People think there should be more civs like i've said earlier a lot more than new units buildings and a few yweaks can constitue as a new game only as an exapnsion pack and those usually have at leawst 1 new civ.

DarthMuffin

Cmon guys, we're all friends here :)

viceroy - If a game is not mp only (mp only = galaxies, wow, etc.), the producers have to develope their game according to single players, even if they're a minority. Beleive it or not, but single player is really important to any game, and there are still people who don't have Internet. Before I got Internet, I was damn glad that bliz included a good campaign and a good AI in starcraft.

I also think your sig is long... remove the space between the lines! (for once, I agree with sith)

Anyways, I think the reps and confeds are both nice to play with. I won't bring many new elements, since everything has already been said, but IMO, it goes like that :

Reps : masters --- convert stuff --- piss enemy off with air --- mass troopers

Confeds : Tech --- piss enemy w/ air (it doesn't matter if it's good or not, everybody's equal at T3) --- mass artileries and troopers

Windu, I take back every bad thing I've ever said about you (and thats a lot of things). You followed my suggestion well and have earned my respect atleast (no one cares what I think, cause, after all, I no longer play on the zone:D )

Viceroy-I've already said why the gungans aren't that popular on the zone (it includes more than just people hate Jar-Jar and want a Chiss civ), but, in reality, it matters little what civilization you choose. In zone games, most of the fighting ends by mid t3, and the civs aren't that different then to make much a difference. Gungans can execute a trooper rush with the same effieciency that the reps or the rebs can, and are just as suseptible to one. The general strategies remain the same no matter who you play as or are playing against, unless they are very specific strategies made to utilize one of the minute bonuses of a civ to its maximum (only thing I can think of right now like that is the naboo nova bonus). And your supposed majority doesn't make games, and doesn't realize that civ uniqueness and civ number are inversly proportional.

lukeiamyourdad
09-12-2003, 11:40 PM
Darth54- You hate Sith:confused:

Who says you're the majority outside Viceroy?
Do you realise how difficult it is to balance a game?
Ever played Aok? The game with the worst balance between the civ ever?

So what if we don't add a civ? Does this means it's bad? Which one of us wouldn't want to have more civs? We all do!!! But we also know it's so hard to achieve that for the sake of a good game we have to make some sacrifices.
Now you want a game with unique unit set or a generic set?
If you want a boring old AoK, RoN, SWGB1 generic set then sure let's have 100 civ.
If you want a cool unique unit set then we have to lower the number of civs. It's inevitable.

Sithmaster_821
09-13-2003, 01:01 AM
woah...woah...woah, AoK had some balance problems, but it was far from the worst civ balance ever catergory. It would be better phrased that AoK had too many civs and soem just didnt get enough play time.

Darth Windu
09-13-2003, 06:26 AM
Viceroy - show me proff of the existence of this majority that wants EU civs and i will take you seriously

DK_Viceroy
09-13-2003, 02:09 PM
I don't think that why are people around here so presumptiuos i think that adding 10 more is too many. The only reason though that AOK had generic sets i think was because fench building styles and brit styles weren't all that different.

Jango_Fett_UK
09-13-2003, 07:22 PM
ok i play on the zone and i have been 4 quite a whie and when i play other civies like gungans and wookies i don't have a favorite unit and also i am not exactly keen on playng gungans basicly the fact is that the gungans are crap there is no doubt about it the only good thing is the hvy fambana sheild generator and their advanced frigates

so carry on with this debate as i want to see how it turns out

oh and darth windu soz bout the thing on THE ROLE OF MECHS i over reacted

Sithmaster_821
09-13-2003, 08:18 PM
Umm...Viceroy, if you think that having different building sets for 18 civs is to be considered unique, you've led a sheltered life. The reason AoK had generic unit sets was because they wanted to make a game with many many civs, just like in AoE.

and it's not a good idea to have many, many civs. Obsessed players will find the 3-5 civs with a slight advantage, and always choose them. Therefore, the 10 others were a waste of time to develope (well, in AoK, there's like 4 (?) different models/art for about 14 (?) civ, so it wasn't really difficult).

@ luke - I don't hate sith, we just had opposing opinions in the Wc3 vs GB/AoM debates, and it carried on with other stuff.

I never said that there should be 18 different unit sets and building sets I was only saying that i don't think there should be that many civs either 12-14 civs is ok but 14 is at the absoloute maximum of civs really any more and it would be forced.

lukeiamyourdad
09-14-2003, 02:26 PM
10 is already forced.
Hell 9 is already hard as hell.
12 is thoroughly impossible to balance, especially a entirely uu set.

Yeah, if you have more than like 7, then only a few of the civs will be played regularly by the online community, leaving the rest to fester.

AU_Skythe
10-13-2003, 12:38 PM
Confed have good good troops, their mechs are actually pretty ordinary, if not quite crappy, missing out on the last attack upgrade as its been replaced by the battle droid tech. Geo warriors are an interesting and sometimes deadly unit.

Republic have an interesting bonus but will only work to ur advantage if u have the economy to back it. Jedi starfighters are nice if u can utilise em good before you die, and jedi are good too.

All in all i think it comes down to who is the better player. I play better at some civs than others even tho people may say the civs i play better at are actually crapper than the ones i play crap with.
