Finaly i had some time to work on my own projects, so here it is my Hailfire Droid vehicle. the mashs and skinmaps are finished, i am working on a few animations now, what shouldnt be that difficult cause there is not much to animate. i dont know if i should do the skins on my own or if out there is someone who would like to do them. is there someone?

i made the rocketlauncher swing up and down, the rockets are under gavity, so it looks like in AOTC. but i got a bug in it i cant find why, when i drive backwards shooting the game crashes. if someone knows this, let me know.

Update: thanks to riovu we know now, its not hellfire droid but hailfire droid. (shame on me, shame on me)

Part of the concept art in the ART OF EPISODE 2 BOOK features the next step up from the Destroyer droid which Duncan has already made, so I might make one of these if I get time!!!! Duncan's gonna hate me for starting yet another model :p

riovu, your right, its hailfire droid! now i know why it crashed, i gave it the wrong name and it refused it. seriously, i havent look up corrcetly, shame on me. i gone correct it, if its possible.

the crash bug seems to be gone since to newest version, perhaps it was something with a wrong animation.cfg file. it looks solved.

Hellfire, ahhhh..... yes that was it i named it after you. i was thinking of that from the start. so i hope you gone rename yourself also to hailfire? :rolleyes:

monsoontide, please let some models left for the next generation of modelers, its not fair if you do everything and they have nothing to do left. every generation needs some great project to do.

Oh, I think there's still plenty of models left to do (A-Wing, B-Wing, Y-Wing, Tie Interceptor, Tie Defender, Tie Advanced, Snowspeeder, Ronto, Bantha, AT-PT, Spider Walker, plus conversions for the twin-pod cloud car and Vaders-Tie models that come with the game)

Besides if anyone isn't satisfied or doesn't like my models, they're totally free to make thier own! ;) or to reskin mine! Though I must admit, I'm all modeled out (At least for vehicles) and it's time for me to get back to my SIEGE maps!

A-wing: Checked!
B-wing: I doubt someone would make it.
Y-wing: Would probably be made.
Tie Interceptor: Checked!
Tie Defender: Will happen, I'm sure of it.
Tie Advenced: See Tie Defender.
Snow Speeder: Checked ;)
Ronto: I don't know what it is, but someone would probably do it.
Bentha: Will happen.
AT-PT: The coolest of all walkers, have to happen!
Spider Walker: Probably will happen.

The Ronto is the big animal the Jawas are riding in the special addition of Star Wars when the swoop bike zips past and scares it and one of the Jawas falls off.

Duncan sent me the HailFire droid to skin, so hope to get it done this weekend.
The vehicles is quite impressive apart from needing a few animation tweaks. The rockets work well, arcing through the air.
I think perhaps limiting them in number would be an idea though.

the hailfire droid is getting well, monsoontide sen me a first pic of a partly skined model, looks great. i hope he has enough time for it with all his other projects.

Zappa_0, you probably know about my droideka project, i am working on adding an energy shield, that is on when standing and off when its in roll mode. i hope to have some time for it in the next few days. i am also woring on some early models of a federation battletank and a gungan kaadu. i hope i can make models like the ATTE, ATAT or the gungan battle wagon. but they need to have some code changes to work properly, so we probably have to wait until the source code comes out and some coder helps me to creat a new vehilce class.

i am looking forward to creat models that can be used in siege maps, for ex. a battle for genosis siege map with all the different droids and vehicles would be absolutly cool. this hailfire droid could take the place of a heavy artilery, its deadly in distance but weak in short range. this in a good designed map could add some real tactical depth, make cooperation more importent then firepower. i am trying to creat these vehicles with strength and weakneses.

Cool and Duncan you forgot to something you can add your vehicles to....movies!!! Hehehe...your helping to make TJD 2 even better then TJD is gonna look. TJD is The Jedi's Demise, and you will be credited so dont worry. Also TJD 2 is still a long way till we actually start filming.

'eya Dunk. I think I got your problem covered...isn't it default for all vehicles to have shields? I mean, even Tie Fighters and AT-STs have them! [in the game] Thus, I think the shielding process is built into the Master Code...and therego, it would require quite some coding to disable shields for rolling...then again, thats just my hypothesis. Feel free to explore the issue more...;)

Weekend has been unexpectedly busy, so achieved less than I had planned for. Only about 65 - 70% done.
Hopefully should be done by the end of the week (work permitting) and maybe Duncan will be able to fix a couple of animation bugs by then!

Ok, after a long time i could come back to this project. i fixed the some skinmap problems and changed the skins which monsoontide made for it. i its in game and its fun :)

there are still some things to fix, movement speed, weapon balancing or sounds to add would be cool. so thats the point i need your help. here is the first beta version, get it and let me know what needs to ne fixed/changed. if if someone could do the sounds, please contact me.

Great model guys, i just tested it and it is amazing how good it is being in BETA. here is what i noticed and some suggestions.

small glitches:

the rolling animation is fine going forward but when you stop, the wheel hops and when you reverse the wheel, it has a 2 second delay. before it moves.

Suggestions:

Add a turbo boost
Increase speed a little

you know what is immensly cool? setting the fire delay to 100 or below... now that's some raining death. :D

also, although i don't agree on the proposition of this having a boost, the speed could be increased a bit. :)

It's great but there is a delay when going backwards and also if we can get faster firepower for the shots it makes

it needs to be just a bit faster, and i like the idea of a boost, and the sound, get some sounds from the movie and put em in the pk3 for the final version, its a little ackward going back at first, but other than that, this is an awsome mod!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you're talent awa's me :p

WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it doesnt work in single player hardly at all, it doesnt even shoot :( i want it to be able to shoot like regular rockets in single player!!! and yeah make it move a bit faster, but in single player it wont shoot anything, and when i get out of it, it starts to shoot itself a laser from the bottem untill it blows itself up!!! correct this please

so i repeat all the found bugs and suggestions, correct me if i got something wrong.

- it isnt working correctly in SP, havent tested that yet but it has highest priorety. does somebody know what that could cause?
- wobelling wheels when stoped. it looks ugly, i hope with another animation sequencing it can be fixed. but it could be visible always a bit.
- short delay when driving backwards. hmm???
- increase the basic speed a bit
- add a turbo boost. i am not sure if that works correctly, cause its a walker vehicle class that hasnt this ability. i try it and we can still dicuss if it makes sense.
- increase firing speed. to 100 or below? that would be five times faster! now its raining death, with 100 it would be armagedon, jugement day, do you want that? it surly would look cool!

is there somebody who could do the sounds, i dont have the equipment for that? let me know.

and nearly forgot, the vehicle limit is about 12.

I am glad you fixed the shakey thing with the wheels, it was...odd. First off, I think the missiles should do more damage. It took me around 3 minutes to kill a stationary rancor. Secondly, BOTH backward and forward speeds need to be bumped up! I mean, come on! This thing was feared as death with a pimped-out motor! A speed-boost would be nice...other then that, I have nothing to complain about. Good job. ;)

When you get done with this, there is somthing I think you should look into. NeoMars just released his Republic Gunship, and I havn't any bad comments about it, other then the fact it's only weapon is missiles, and it is a 1-person flya. If possible, talk to him, and see if you guys could do a joint-project so as to make it more mutli-usable, if you know what I mean...;)

As a matter of fact, I actually made a vehicle repeater ages ago for one of my swoops! :D

I'll post it here as soon as I've uploaded it to freewebs.

It's just a PK3 with the effects and a .vwp file - all you have to do is change the part in your .veh file for weap1 (and weapMuzzle1, 2, 3 etc) to "vehicle_repeater" and it should work

Just do /npc spawn vehicle hailfire_droid2 and give it a test!

The missiles fire at a rate that's about as fast as from what I remember in the SWCW episode, and because it's so fast, I made the damage fall down to 40 hp. I've also changed the effects for the launch and impact of the missiles - I think it's more suiting than the AT-ST sounds :D

Let me know what you need changing and I'll do it for ya.

I have this A-10 warthog vehicle (a heavily armored U.S. support aircraft [the coolest plane in the world]) that im going to put in as a secret in my level , and the main weapon on it is an machine gun that shoots 35mm depleted uranium shells at a speed of 70 rounds per second.

thats what i need the weapon for.

Yes, but with the texture I gave the A-10, it looks pretty bland. If any better skinner would want to skin it, then it would be worth putting on the net.

WOOT! YAY, MACHINE GUN SOUNDS! BRRRRAAAPPP!!

one note: Due to the EXTREMELY fast firing rate of the cannon (i set the firing delay to 14milliseconds between shots to make it accurate) the sound when the a-10 fires is not a series of distinct shots, but it sounds like a BRRRRAAAAPPPPP! noise. try to make it so when it fires it sounds like that.

do you know how i can put custom music into my level? whenever i try to put in my own music it wont play. ive tried opening up one of the games music files and copy/paste my own music into it and re-saving it with goldwave, but that doesnt work.

as far as the texture goes, its fine for a secret plane. it works.

Wow... that does sound pretty cool! I think I'll have to slow down the bullets a bit tough, they only seem to show the repeater effect when they are firing a further distance.

ive edited the file to be accurate to the a-10, ill upload the .veh in a bit, also, change the weapons setting for the vehicle its on to this:

a few slight criticisms:

1. when you shoot something with a depleted uranium armor-percing shell travelling at mach 3, it DOES NOT ricochet( as in the metal1.wav)

2. could you make the metal0.wav sound more like a deep thuddin hit, instead of a .22 bullet hitting a tin can? the rounds it fires are 30mm rounds, thats almost 2 inches wide! something that big is going to make a pretty loud thud when it hits something.

thats about it. try changing those things.

Have you actualy tried the weapon in-game? When its firing that fast, you don't hear the ricochet part...

OK, I've uploaded the new version - same link as before.

This time, use it as a weapon instead of opening each .wav file, it sounds more effective in the game.

sure you got my permission, i am already using your veh file, cause its realy better. you or everyone is verywelcome to mod the hailfire droid, sent me want you did and we can discuss it. your veh file, ZH@o YuN, is realy better, i will surely use it partly. i am thinking of rise a bit the damage value cause it takes now a bit longer the destroy something then with my old version. i also dont want to have it that fast to fire. when you can fix the npc file so it will work right in SP, sent it me and i will release a second beta version with some other fixes. then we can discuss it again.

I, too, am using your bike in my map. (the one the above screenie was taken in) What I want to do is take monsoontide's bike and have someone skin it with your bike skin. It would fit in more, don't you think? Now to find a good, free skinner...

i didnt get the point. do you say, you like monsoontides meshes and my skin? it isnt possible to put these together, they are two differnt models. you have to reskin monsoontides model though.
why not just use it as it is? or take my model, the mesh differences arent the great.

its a ctf level set on a high plateau in the desert, with many diffrent vehicles, including a tie bomber that drops bombs, an a wing, x wing, yt-1300, ravens claw, speeder bike(goes Really fast) , and the other default vehicles. both bases have all weapons and items, and have turbolaser batteries on top of them.

dont put in tooooo many vehicvles, then any one who tries to play it will get "Vehicle Exstentions are to large" so maybe tone down the vehicle just a bit

i have played it thouroughly with my freind over a lan. i dont have that problem because all of the vehicles that respawn use a spawnscript. the rest that dont fit on the script dont respawn.

are there any more comments about the hailfire_droid? bugs suggestions?

ZH@o YuN, you offerd to make a veh and npc files for the droideka that would fix the SP problems. i havent heard from you since them, are you still around? i would realy welcome your help, i have no idea about the SP art to fix.

i would like to release the final vesion of this vehicle soon. to do that we need a MP beta testing, to find the right balancing. does someone know where we could play the hailfire droid on a server. is the a JA server that allows vehicle to spawn, is here someone who would help me testing it?

If there was one thing I could add to the hailfire droid it would be a custom weapon effect that packed a bit more punch, like the one in the movie.

ok i've used it and for weapons: Great! 7-8/10, looks: AWSOME 9/10 and speed: Bad 4/10 its to slow in clone wars they drive into their enemys firing rockets so just need to improve the speed

I played the model and noticed that the wheels "wobbled" when you were coming to a stop. Also it was a bit slow and the clipping on the wheels was bad...

I can't seem to figure out why the vehicle is leaning instead of aiming... The strange thing is, when you spawn an AT-ST, it does the same thing!

So, I'm guessing that SP depends on the way things are spawned, decided by the map. Just using the /npc command doesn't seem to work with walkers!

So don't worry, there's nothing at all wrong with your vehicle, it's the SP code.

in the last few days i worked on the hailfire again, i used most of ZH@o YuN veh file settings and fixed vehicle box size and some other things.

the wheel wobeling is something i couldnt fix, its probably an engine problem that possitions between animtions are smoothed. so if you stop after a half wheel turns, the skeleton moves back into stand possition the shortest way, thats teh wobeling. i could fix that by cutting the animation into four or eight parts but that would need a mod and the wobeling would be still there but just smaller. i want to have this vehicle working without a mod so i think we have to accept this draw back.

about the SP, there are two npc files for the atst. perhaps one is for MP and the other for SP, that means a SP vehicle needs more settings in the npc file then one for MP. perhaps the settings of the SP npc files would fix the wrong standing.


BTW, i would like to test the hailfire droid on the droideka beta balancing server too. so if you would like to join that go the the droideka thread and apply or sent me a mail.

i could need help with the sound. i dont know how the hailfire droid sound s in th movie. i specialy need a rolling/moveing sound, if someone could give me that or point me where i could get it. thanks

I have encountered the same problems with a new saber hilt of mine... (why i came to this thread again :) + to check up on prgress)

I don't know of any sounds... maybe watch the movie again? you might could cut some sounds out of that some how..

Try winzip or Winrar, I think thats how i got into it...I will have to check on it. It might be in the folders on your harddrive aswell. I will get back to you later about it.

Have you tried looking on your hard drive in its folder? I havent got a chance to really look at it myself yet, been alittle busy with stuff. Or another thing is maybe make your own sounds for it. It wouldnt be hard to do, just get a sound editing program and find sounds you wanna use for it, then you will be on your way.

After seeing a clip of the Hailfire Droid in a trailer for a JK3 movie, I now know what the missiles look like, so I'm gonna get the ol' EffectsEd out and make a cool-looking missile to go with it ;)

Oh, and the two AT-ST files are different things - one is the AT-ST NPC (one that walks around on its own and attacks you) and the other is the ridable vehicle.

From the video, I saw that the missiles had a red/pink exhaust coming from them, and a lot of sparks.

So far, I am just about done for the missile effect (I even modelled a custom missile in milkshape :D). All I need to make now is the launch effect, which will be sort of a large burst of smoke coming out from the back of the launch pod.

Bah... I have some good sounds for the launch from C&C: Generals, but they aren't in the right WAV format to be used in the game.

I have a friend with an audio program, maybe I can ask her to re-compile the file.

Until then, here's my current version (http://www.freewebs.com/zhaoyun_ldx/hailfire_droid2.zip) - note that you will need the original Hailfire Droid to use this! Just do /npc spawn vehicle hailfire_droid2 and give it a try!

I've sorted all the sounds out, and all the effects for launching and the missiles themselves are finished :D

But, I believe the ones that the AOTCTC team has would be better, because I'm sure they were taken from the real thing, although I haven't heard them yet.

DarkLord would it be too much trouble to send the sounds to me as well?

ZH@o YuN, i have taken a look at the hailfire_droid2 you made. the rocket effects you added caused some toubles in my JA. the partical effects are not working corretly for me. i also couldnt see how the new roockets look like cause they are to fast. does it make sense to have new rockets that in fact are not visible? its slowing down the fps.

could you give us a bit more info what you changed in this hailfire_droid2 version. this way we could better discuss the all your suggestion, cause some seems to be realy great.

i would be also happy if you could pass me the sound files have. i havent heard from DarkLord60 yet. and i would reayl like to hear to ones you got. thanks.

I was aware of the FPS problem with the missiles, and I have changed them. There are now a lot less sparks and smoke coming out of the missiles. As for the missile model, I just did that for a bit of fun!

I'll start sorting out the sounds I have, and putting them into the game. When I've finished, I'll put them on here as soon as possible.

Start a game in normal jk3, don't join a server with JAPlus or something on it. Just start jamp.exe and type /devmap t2_trip in the console. Try it there.

you cant spawn hailfire_droid2 without having my hailfire_droid version in your base folder. ZH@o YuN's hailfire_droid2 refers to the files of my original, it doesnt work without it.

how about it? did you work on it, could you give us an update? i am only waiting for your improvements and the sounds. on everything else the hailfire droid is done.

Not bad, but I really hope you made the wheels seperate meshes. Doesn't look like they are in those first screenshots--I don't have time to read the rest of the thread right now. With seperate meshes you can add seperate bones and make them PCJs. Hooray for rotating wheels.

Thrawn, the last beta test of it looked awesome in game. By the way you can see the hailfire droid in The Jedi's Demise on PCGM. Theres only a brief cameo, but will get more action in our sequal to come later on.

I meant Programmer Controlled Joints, but I didn't know you had them animated anyway. Nice work! :)

I'm extremely sorry for disappearing like that... What I didn't know was that my internet had been cancelled and was due to run out at any minute, thus i had no internet for a couple of months.
