In the movies we have seen the single saber beat dual and double bladed sabers by busting/slicing them making the saberists back to a single blade. Any thoughs on how one could implement this in a MOD? It would invole some sort of hit area on the saber hilt that would need to get hit, or... some sort of health % you reach, shuts the other down you other blade and your on single...
Any thoughts?

Well there is two ways for you *could* say about that

1) that the actual saber (the physical part) gets damaged/sliced in half, or...

2) the beam breaks.

two different situations, obviously its very hard to break the beam, and a careless wielder of the saber can have his saber damaged. Both which of course would require two different ways for each to happen.

Such as if the saber gets broken by a very hard to pull off quick attack, which could only be preformed at 2 or 3 situations (double saber vs single. Double ended vs single/double)

or to break the beam (just short out the beam itself) might require a very hard blow under strong saber style (which infact i can't say exactly due to my lack of knowledge about that. BBut therotechially its possible, just as a lightsaber being as it is as well. )

The hilt breaking is a very plausible idea, but I can't see the beam (blade?) breaking. I don't think the beam itself can be broken, it's like seeing energy being broken.

Well none can be actually sure, no one actually has a fully fuctioning lightsaber now do they?

The beam of a lightsaber is of course a beam of pure energy. which in the negitive polarity of the energy is on the outside of the beam, where the inner is the positive. (that is at least how it was explained to me)

So in theory, if there was a way to short out that beam, it could/would turn off, or break.
That is weither or not if the beam fixes itself (in theory if it short circuts, the 'circle' of energy is shortened briefly to the lenth where it was 'cut') or shuts off completely, and the wielder would need to either ignite the beam again, or fix the problem

The dual or double sabers in the movies where broken by another saber hitting the hilt not the beam. Like maul and obi - obi chops the doublebladed saber in half. And in AotC Count slices the dual saber out of Skywalkers hand.

Well, if speaking of continuity and not reality, then you can short out the lightsaber blade, but it does not break. In the book "I, Jedi" by Michael A. Stackpole, where cortorsis armor is introduced, the cortorsis does not simply resist lightsaber blows like they did in JKII, but it literaly shorts the blade out and shuts the weapon off. It is a temporary thing, and the saber can be turned right back on, but when it touches cortosis, it does short out.

And, naturally, the hilts are destructible. Slice through it, and you shut off the beam. That is unless you put a layer of cortosis over the guts of the saber before covering it in metal :D
