Approximate tags

Im makin weapon models by creating my own tags...
But things seem to be slightly out of place ingame or when I view tags in md3 viewer...
Any tips? Any idea, why my tags are so approximate?

Sorry Tfighter... I forgot to say....

3D max 5, and the md3 viewer from the (JO) SDK.

I can get round the problem, by loading up the game, having a look then adjusting the tag accordingly, but this just seems well...a little stupid.
