i said Dell just because I know the name. I also know gateway. I would say any company except IBM. Now if you asked about mother boards and processors I would have to say AMD processors all the way.:D

I using one right now. :o I'd say I hate Gateway the most, it seems like they copy their ideas from others, they just don't have anything special to offer.

Compaq is not the same as HP. Well, it is now since Hewlett Packard bought them out. I have one of the last ones made that was an actual Compaq, instead of a Hewlett Packard in a Compaq casing. My Compaq has been very good to me. It was reasonably priced, I've never had to reformat it, never seen a blue screen of death, its ran every game I've purchased for it, never had any trouble with it whatsoever. The Gaytway I bought prior to the Compaq is another story altogether though. Expensive, low end, constantly ****ered up...But then the argument could be made that a computer, like anything (a car for example) is only as good as what you put into it, and how well you take care of it.

Dell, because of their terrible commercials they play every freakin second [really annoying voices]"And you don't have to sell what's on your shelf!" "And sit home, cryin' to you momma!"[/really annoying voices] *shivers*

In all honesty... all package computers suck...

It's cheaper to just buy the parts yourself. Not only that, but you also get better hardware. When you're shopping for computers from a resaler like Dell, HP, etc, all you're really shopping for is the tech support. And according to them, Dell supposedly has the best customer support... I guess I'd go with a Dell if I had to buy a package computer. Either that or a Compaq. Probably Compaq.

18" LCD flat panel
200 GB HDD

EDIT: Forgot to Add, that it cost alot more money than it should have.

Another EDIT: Dells Suck.

Technically thery are cause they were bought out.

I should have built one but I didn't want to. I got a ****ty dell but its running good no problems yet except I can move motherboard into new case without re-wiring front control button circuitboard.

Dells are alright they have nice neat wiring and good hardware except on mine I got stuck with PC800 RDRAM. RDRAM is old news already and is to expensive even for them to make.

That was rather prick-ish of you. All I was saying is that not all Compaqs are HP's. But you said you already knew that, which makes your last two posts directed at me make no sense at all. But if you want to be an *******, and repeat everything I type wording it slightly different, go for it.

Friend worked for Gateway tech support. He said they are all CRAP, nothing but CRAP. Awful, cheap, and highly likely to die. So I vote for Gateway.

Also, I once had one of those ACER ASPIRES. Utter Crap!

I have a hewlett Packard. I've never had had a problem with them. Now, next computer I get, I will build. After I found out how much cheaper it is!

Gateway is definitely on my hate list for Computer companies. They seem to never know what the hell was wrong with my PII 300Mhz machine. They were always bad about VERY LONG waits for a tech, who like I said, would know nothing. And that the equipment they use is 3rd rate. Whereas I now build my own PC which top-rate material that I know wont crap out after 2 weeks, unlike the Gen2 DVD-ROM drives that Gateway used.

Yay, another place to complain about my computer! :)

without a single doubt, I will say Compaq. One reason is because their pre-made towers are not upgradeable! If they f***kin' were, THEN I COULD UPGRADE MY COMP AND ACTUALLY BE ABLE TO PLAY REAL GAMES!!! AND....

ah, I won't go into all their problems. Bottom line is...

COMPAQ SUCKS!!!!!!!!

Hewlette Packard (Pavilion 2000 addtion right now)...Well Thats all I've had all my life. But not just because of that, also they are a leader not a follower. I also love that copy+scanner+printer(which i have) :)

I ABSOLUTELY HATE DELLS
I hate Dell's "THE INTERNS"  commercials. Dells are so stupid and corny. Now, Gateways, E-machines, VOODOO laptops, HP's, Sony's and Compaq's are the BEST. VOODOO's are the best laptops there are. Just search the VOODOO website for more under www.google.com for it.

DONT YOU ALSO HATE THE DELL INTERNS?

E-Machines suck! I had three, not all at once, and they all crapped out within a year.

Compaqs suck, Dell doesn't.

Do any of you people that say Dell sucks even have a Dell? Seriously, they're fine....I've had a Dell desktop for 2 years now and we've never had *any* problems with it, unlike my Gateway that had 2 HDD failures and 1 CDROM drive failure. Albeit, they were covered on the warranty, but we lost all of our data twice on the Gateway....

And ironically, buying parts and assembling isn't always cheaper. With holiday sales, I got a brand new Dell computer that was about 300 dollars cheaper than the one I was planning on building.

Go figure.

I am gonna have to agree with Jed on this one I mean can't judge a book by its cover.

I hate Dell and Gateway, because their customer service in the UK is abysmal, let alone their flawed products. The only good thing I can say about them is that their PC's still work 7 years on with every day use - at my workplace. But I had to resolve every single technical issue with those machines myself. So I'm glad Gateway pulled out of the UK market...and I wish Dell would follow suit.

I also hate Compaq, Olivetti, Packard Bell, and to an extent, Hewlet Packard (they make some decent printers though). I don't like Time computers. Viglen was always overpriced. I'll never forgive MJN for taking an order, taking our money, and then going bankrupt.

You know...when it boils right down to it, a lot of PC makers are basically crap in one way or another. Whether it's cutting corners with the technology, overpricing their products, crappy customer support or just plain naff quotient, there are few decent PC builders in the marketplace.

Evesham and Mesh are two of the better PC manufacturers in the UK at the moment.

DIY looks ever more appealing...

Well I never have to get service for my PC cause I am a technician so I work on PC's lol. But when I have to call I am sure Ill get some foriegn guy I can't understand.

Sorry, but I HAVE had a Dell Computer. It was an Dimension, an it kept crashing on me. When it froze up with the frickin "This computer has caused an illegal operation," I shut it off manually after ctrl+alt+delete. Then, after it rebooted, it always popped up a message saying it couldn't find a PS/2 mouse connected. WHAT??? Anyways, I don't care fro TECH support. Most tech support is crappy anyway.

Joetheeskimo
12-19-2003, 07:13 PM
Even if it is bad, which I don't think it is, anything is better than Compaq. And the illegal operation message isn't Dell's fault; it's your own fault. You have to scandisk and defrag if you get those messages. Dell rocks, IMHO.
