View Full Version : The rules to play

Rules to play ...

Rules to play? Yes ... With AoK there are some policies in on-line playing. Some stratagies are banned for example. (This is not a written rule, it's something that most players agree on)

One of those stratagies is the Tower Rush. This is when you take a couple of villagers and build towers just outside your oponents town (so he wont see) and quickly build some towers inside the view. (When you attack those, the towers outside your 'view' attack you).

You can wipe an enemy out in maybe 10 minutes this way ... without using an army.

It's a lame stratagie and most AoK players don't use it because it's no fair play. I won't use it either ... I hope you won't too.

...

another thing to add is that early this morning i was playing with two guys. i emphasized that it was a "tutorial, training, no rush, no monument" type game. one of the guys has never played aok before, so i helped him out with how to build multiple 'houses", where to build his nova centers, you get the picture. anyhow, a member on here who was playing, YH YODA, decided to rush me while i was helping out the other guy. eventhough rushing is allowed for the most part, i simply stated that it wasn't allowed in the game i was hosting. i suggest if you plan on bending the rules, find other people who will.....

That sounds very similar, as to what happened to me. It was my first game so a guy and me decided to ally and just see what does what...well he decided (after he built air units) to attack me. It pisses me off when people do that!

I can see that I guess...really what you should have done is at the very begining said, "Okay we have a newbie so go very easy people"

Now if you said that at the beging...well this is really a job for the Senate:mad:

i still say the biggest....cheapest strategy (well in KOTH games anyway....) is to build towers right next to the ruins......

Wow that's what we did (Warlord and I) he had a large base around it so that no one could attack it very well.

A lot of people does that. I played a guy who did it and I did it myself once. I lost when he did it, and I won when I did it, so it's mostly like "the one who secure the ruins win the game. Period".

Should've been specified before the game, something like "no buildings by ruins". There is a map in AoK with just ice around the monument, however, so that you can't build anything there. I think maybe one of the space missions in GB will be that way, if not a land mission.

Oh, and I've got a better name for "rules to play" for you guys: "Rules of engangement."

wow, i went 1 against 2 (my partner died early), with one of them trying to pull off a tower rush at minute 45. both of them were trying to pull off air sweeps and dark troopers on me, but luckily i used bombers, mechs, a few dark troopers, etc. they couldn't decimate me but they're tower rush tactic sucks b/c their towers blocked the monument, which was how they won after 80-90 minutes.

my question is, how do you beat that tower rush tactic, esp. if you're playing against 2 guys?

artillery...and lots of it....just get some troops to "hold possion" around them and bomb 'em to hell :) .......still say that RTS-CTF-Towers should always be an unwritten rule...........

If you don't, your enemy will. I haven't played a game yet without buildings in the center.

So I'll say it's allowed on this map. KotH is a quick map and the only way to win is to secure the monument in time.
(I don't build walls around it tough)

I agree with you guys completely. First off, the type of game the demo only lets you play with multiplayer pisses me off for just that reason: one guy builds 5 layers of walls and then just floods the peremiter with turrets and by the time you finally get done destroying them, time is out. The units in swgb take forever to be produced and with a 75 pop limit, thats hardly any workers you can make to gather up the resources in mass quantaties. But then again, this is just a demo and not to be taken seriously just to give us a taste of what the game is like.

Is there something that we in this swgb community is working on with "Fair Play Rules"? I think if all the major clans and players of the SWGB community got together and put these rules up on a site dedicated to the community that would really be nice. I would be willing to work on such a thing if one is not already made.

Anyway, we just got to stick up for one another and let these boobs know we wont stand for that kind of crap. We just want to play and have fun, not put up with little kids with egos that do that just for the sake of flooding the zone on how good they think they are.

The quickest way to produce units is to use 'Power Cores' closeby. These make your units/buildings build faster. They also provide power for the Shield Generator, which can be a pain to your enemy.

It's a good idea, if you can, to flood your base with Generators...protects everyone!

Tower rushing is not lame, its just not so imaginative strategy as every rookie with a build order can do a half decent one.

I got tower rushed and beat it back quite easily...I have been experiementing with Tech Level 1 rushing which is also pretty devastating...I could still advance aroun 16 mins to the TL2...while using mounted units to kill some of my opponents workers...

1) Welcome to the board....someone will be around soon to give you a gift basket ;)

2) I still think it is a cheap tactic.........

Thanks for the welcome :)

I am AoC player, but will probably switch to this game now.

I think tower pushing won't last long in this game either...it died in AoC as well, as its pretty easy to counter. I did not say that I like it either, but once you know how to push it back you will have an advantage against your opponent.

There, and welcome.

Although i think that tower rushing is cheap, and really not much fun, but i also think that once the full game comes out, people will play more regicide and conquest scenarios, so it won't be a problem.

There is an EASY way to defeat towers! USe pummels! They have loads of armor! ONe pummel can take out one tower without losing hardly any health! They are really good anti-tower vehicles! :D

Tie Guy
10-01-2001, 04:13 PM
They're also really slow and utterly useless against troops, and since the opponnent always has a few troops around his forward base......

Lord JayVizIon
10-01-2001, 04:26 PM
that's why you never send pummels alone, but they do take awhile (i haven't experimented with pummels and power cores, yet). every unit has a weakness, and when you know it, the right combination could be a good protective scheme.

is this game good or what!

man i just found a new FORM of cheapness........i launched an attack at day 100, and BAM....i run into a wall BLOCKING ME INTO MY BASE......whats really frustrating, is the guy who did it didn't even build an army....just walled me up......by the time i knocked down the walls, it was to late :(
