Ok someone will be saying:"Go ask this to the Council of Star Wars.com" , I just wanted to point out that I want this to be here first just to see people's opinion and views.

Anyone dare guess what's the origin of the word Jedi?

Does it has a signification?

Is it only a word that Lucas said sounded cool?

What are the origins of the word "Jedi"?

Hmmmm, I read something somewhere (and my recollection is very plain) but it's a variation of a word used to describe ancient warriors (of which country I can't recall)....

Y'know something silly like that.

I read somewhere that it was a variation (?) of the word Jidai or something, which meant something like samurai... or something :p

From the Episode I Scrapbook:
Samurai Inspiration
For the word Jedi, George Lucas was inspired by the Japanese Jidai Geki, which refers to a drama set in medieval Japan during the time of the samurai.
