They can be useful if you're Naboo, but for all other civs, they're a waste of resources.

Their good for ending long drawn out games, but other than that, its just a waste of time and recs, esp if you dont have air superiority.

I never use the AC anymore. I find them too unrealistic. Gameplay over realism is one thing but this is just stupid.

as starwarphreak mentioned, i also hate the ppl who build only acs in city builds and such. im sure we've all played with an ac fanatic at least once. i do build them to defend myself if i see someone else building them, but that would be the only occasion.

AC whores are good cos you can beat them very easily just by building fighters, unless it's a nova lake and they've got all the nova and you haven't...

The only way for someone to build a small army of them is if you're in an infinite resources game... or if it's a MEGA noob game. However, due to their incredibly slow reload time they're very easy to defeat. The best is when people get wiped out by them and say: "oh you're a noob for using ACs!" As they then have ZERO defense for them... when they're the obvious noobs for not being able to build a few friggin fighters and kill them before they get there...

I think ACs were introduced as a quick mop-up for drawn out games. AoM decided to restrict settlements to counter the problem, but since SWGB was just building on the AoK engine, ACs were the best choice.
I don't use them at all, mainly because of the reason Luke's Dad gave: too unrealistic.

Actually, AC were meant for space maps, where, if both sides heavily invested in AA turrets, it was an unbeatable stalemate. They tend to prolong land games due to their ability to wipe out large armies, effectively giving the defender with an AC the advantage.
Settlements in AoM were meant to counter the TC pushing and hyperbooming of AoK, not shorten games.
