View Full Version : New Guy Joins the Ranks

02-25-2004, 09:14 PM
Hi guys!

I don't know if there are any rules about people posting to announce they are here, but, well.. here I am :)

I'm new to the whole scene, and I'm really looking forward to chatting about Monkey Island. I only just played The Curse of Monkey Island this winter - my friend has Escape From Monkey Island on his PS2, and he recommended it to me. I figured I should play the first one first, but I didn't really look into it properly I guess. D'oh! So now I learn that The Curse wasn't the first one, and that there are two more games! I can't wait to play them, I just bought them online. I hope they get here soon.

Anyway, what goes on around here? Is it all Monkey Island talk, or can we just talk about whatever we want? Anyway, look forward to seein' you guys :)

This area we talk about whatever we want, it's kinda fun, kinda scary, kinda kinky.

Oh, and welcome aboard.

02-25-2004, 09:20 PM
Kinky, huh?

Excellent :D

*prepares a welcome basket*

Welcome, Solomon!

Be nice, courteous, and obey the uniform code.

Don't make fun of moderaters

No flame wars

Yes, I am a girl (and so is Alia and Shivers and Natty)

If RayJones walks up to you, run!

If Guybrush starts crying, run!

And don't fear the Reaper.

There are girls on the Internet?

02-25-2004, 09:26 PM
Oh cool, you're the Remi who does Scumm Bar? Those Monkey Island 5 rumours sound good, I just hope I get chance to play the old ones before its released!

Don't worry, Orca Wail, I'm basically a nice guy. Unless you include stuff like necrophilia.

(joke :))

Phew, people really reply fast around here!

yeah, well, suddenly, we're all on...

...usally this place is like a grave-yard...

02-25-2004, 09:41 PM
Of course not Remi, don't be ridiculous.

02-25-2004, 09:43 PM
I'm such the sillybuns. ;D

02-25-2004, 09:44 PM
I can't believe there are so many replies already!

Well, I know for a fact that my mom can't use the internet, cos she was always getting me to take her to that Arnold Schwarzenegger page during the elections.

02-25-2004, 09:53 PM
Welcome! Welcome!

Lies! There are no girls on the Internet!

02-25-2004, 10:10 PM
Apart from RayJones.

Crazy bitch.

02-26-2004, 01:56 AM
Wait a minute... all this time Remi was the same as the one at the Scummbar? I may faint. Can I have your autograph?

02-26-2004, 03:44 AM
You'd be surprised how often I hear that. ;

02-26-2004, 05:13 AM
Solomon, you may want to download a tool called Quick & Easy (http://quick.mixnmojo.com) before you try to play Monkey Island 1 or 2. It basically makes the games playable on today's machines, plus it can 'enhance' (some may object to that) the graphics.

Where is Shivers?! Is he busy growing a beard or what?

Orca, I hope that prostate problem of yours is better now?

Ray Jones
02-26-2004, 06:41 AM
Jones is one of the sexiest girliest names ever.not to mention Ray.

If RayJones walks up to you, run!

yeah. run. run as if it would be a race. a race for "who's gonna be first" uhhm. "the first who tackles the crying guybrush"

"without getting the wall involved"

"or something similar"

"like pantees"

also if you want to stay you MUST cut off your left leg and give the bone to skinkers. you can keep the flesh if you want, it's probably worth a good soup so you may want to try this.

if it ever comes that thrik talks directly to you, dont focus him, look to the floor and never ever make quick or uncontrolled moves.

plus what alien said. maybe.

Okaaaay, kinda getting the hang of how this forum works now. Its cool! So, this software looks pretty neat, thanks - I'll give it a try when the games come :D

So yeah, I guess the graphics aren't the best. I mean, its gameplay thats important, right? So are the first Monkey games better or worse than Curse and Escape? My favourite so far is Curse :)

02-26-2004, 04:12 PM
Most people think they're better, but I personally think CMI is best. If you wanna know alot of people opinions just click right HERE!!!! (http://forums.adventuregamers.com/showthread.php?t=2094) . It should give you a good idea on people's thoughts.

02-26-2004, 04:38 PM
I like Monkey Island 2 best. It has great new characters, superb puzzles, excellent music (you may not like midi music, but I think the compositions are brilliant), tons of humor and very nice locations. It always seemed to be the biggest of the series, too.

02-26-2004, 04:57 PM
Oh great, longer than Curse? Thats awesome! I didn't think they made games that big. Is it just on one CD, cos of the midi's?

02-26-2004, 05:22 PM
I think it's actually only around 10 MB big. Cause it has *gasp* no voices!

02-26-2004, 05:24 PM
Oh yeah, I didn't think of that... good job I already know what Guybrush sounds like :)

Ray Jones
02-26-2004, 05:35 PM
monkey 1 and 2 are also available on floppy for amiga. the sound is much better than fo the pc version, but it has only 32 colors not like pc-vga 256. but the better sound is worth it all. (plus the did a good job at the color-down-rendering)
so my advice, get the discs and an emulator for the a500 and try it.
or try scummvm, it supports the amiga versions too i think, so you could play them on pc without amiga emulation. but i do not know what's with the sound then.. ahh.. now i know what i wanted to do, but havent yet ..

02-26-2004, 09:52 PM

02-27-2004, 02:04 AM
You mean some kinky fun, don't forget that magic word, if applied correctly iy can make even the most boring of replies entertaining.

Welcome aboard the love boat....

If 'Le Chuckie'
or 'Le Chuckie Lives'
or 'Le Chuckie Darko'
or ' Arrrggghhh!!'

approach you, run faster than if you were running from Ray.

Speaking of Ray, if you have any left over coloured paper or anything shiny, then mail it to him. He will laugh and clap his little hands.....and break his little watch. Aww.

Only run from me when I get uptight. It does happen. Rarely. About silly things, like Tesco's running out of crossiants, or StarCraft Ghost getting bumped back...

Kinky? Glen Humplik doesn't know the meaning of the word. He's on the Tom Green Show.

I'm Special :)

Kinky is a funny word...

I love the kinky...

02-28-2004, 02:30 PM
"Squinky" is better...

Mr Flibble
02-28-2004, 03:55 PM
I hope you'll stick around, Sol.
We get these people who log in with names like 'I_am_Cool'
or something like that. They post once about how Murray reminds them of pizza with cheese & no anchovies , then theystrut around as if they own the place.

Whoever suggested 'Respect is Earnt so shut up' as a Forum title was a genius.

It'll be good to have new blood....:)

What the hell is squinky?? Do you use it in salad dressing?

02-28-2004, 04:10 PM
Squinky is kind of like a blinky but it's not outside.

02-28-2004, 04:22 PM
You're the man now, dog! (http://www.yourethemannowdog.com)

It's also kinda like my name, wild.

02-29-2004, 05:29 PM
I'll try not to "strut around as if [I] own the place", but Murray is cool :)

02-29-2004, 08:40 PM
Yes, when naming the various female forum members, don't mention me, because I'm a game designer. And they don't come in female versions. Except for Alba ones, but seriously, would you buy an Alba?

03-01-2004, 02:21 AM
Yufster is secretly Tim Schafer. That's the theroy I'm working on.

03-01-2004, 05:57 AM
When I said game designer, I meant because of this (http://www.livejournal.com/users/yufster).

While I do enjoy all the fan mail I wrongly recieve, I must put an end to this insanity for the following reasons;

1. People are starting to be extra-nice to me, just in case.
2. Impersonation is wrong.
3. I could start spreading vile rumours about Psychonauts, and everybody would believe me! Ha ha ha!
4. I wouldn't want to annoy my favourite game designer! Oh no! Most definitely not.

Therefore I must insist that from now on you refer to me as Jim.

Ray Jones
03-01-2004, 06:19 AM
jim? jim mccoy?

03-01-2004, 09:26 AM
No, Jim Schafer.

Ray Jones
03-01-2004, 09:51 AM
schafer? jim schafer? what happened to mccoy? did you marry or so?
