I am positive wit hall the activity in this board that this has already been put forward, but I could not find it anyware.

The mod I would like, you sweet sweet modders, is the ability to play the game again with what I earned in a previous play thru.

I do not what different hair color yet.. I do not require another fourteen lightsabres. I simply want to use the things in the game I played for 50 hours and earned the right to use.

As I am only on my third time thru, the content of the game still has things to offer me. I want to fully explore all that is there first before I start adding even more things in.

In the manner in which the game works, I would say that the most practical way to fit this in would be to have an item list of some sort that is placed into the very first box on the ship when you wake up in the beginning.

Is there a way to create such a list?

I want to open that box and find the robes I got on the Star Forge. I want my uber beefed up lightsaber in there. I want Cassus Fetts Maxed Upgraded armour in there so I can give it back to Carth when I reach Taris, etc..

From a total and complete modding 'tards point of view, this seems like a fairly simple thing. "put these items in this box" can't be that dificult for someone who understands how it works.. can it?

I would be eternally greatful to anyone who could help me achieve this seemingly simple mod.

I know putting things into containers isn't a problem, I think the issue would be programming a script that recalls what your inventory was in the previous game.

An easy way to do this is to just use the giveitem cheat and give yourself all those nifty items.

yeah, I thought of that.. I just thought it would be more efficient if it was done via a script or mod or something, so it could be used each new game..

Using the giveitem code meant you have to put each item in individually, and thats a fair few items (even if you just put in the ones you use over all the items you had) to type in.

Also, using those item code things puts "CHEAT USED" accross your image in the save game file. That is rather insulting to me and I do not like being accused of 'cheating' when all I want is what I legitimately have already earned.

In the old days of Diablo there was a mod that allowed you to actually save the items you found to your HD, and load them in and out of the game as you pleased. I never played DiabloII specifically because I was never able to find a simillar mod for it.

I am terribly miffed about this whole thing to be honest. We know the code to keep your character is in there because it was in NWN that this is based on. Why on earth they decided to criple this game so much is really frustrating for re-players imo.

anyway, enough of me griping. Thats not going to win me any friends. Sorry about that.

Just a word about that "cheat used" thing. You can use Tk102 save game editor to remove it. There also much more you can do with this tool and TK102 updates his KSE regularly. http://www.pcgamemods.com/6692

I think this could be done. :) I have looked at one of my saves and found a file called INVENTORY.res. This file can be opened with the gff editor and it lists all the items you have collected in your inventory.

I just have to find a way to get it into a new game. :)

HA! :D

okay I got it to work with a new game only.

If you drop the INVENTORY.res file in your inventory and then start a new game all the items will be there. This is a very hacky way of doing it and it will crash older saves while that file is in override, but if you start a new game save it the remove then INVENTORY.res file from override all the items will be save in that save game :D

edit: now that I know this works Im certain the same thing can be done with a script. I was thinking that when your captured by the leviathan all of your inventory is removed and then placed in a locker so if we figuer out how that is done maybe something similar can be done to add you old inventory to a new game.

OR maybe tk102 could add the ability to transfer the inventory form one save to another. :D this sounds much easyer to me since his editor already opens the saves. ofcourse though you would still have to start a new game then save it.

Warning!!!!! now what effect doing this would have on a new game I don't know as all the star maps are saved as data pads in the inventory but anyone that wants to try is encoreged to do so AT YOUR OWN RISK of course :D

Oh I just thought I would how to extract the INVENTORY.res.
The program I used was NWN Explorer (http://nwvault.ign.com/Files/other/data/1055545441750.shtml).
Double click nwnexplorer.exe when it loads click OPEN and browes to your KotOR defualt is C:\Program Files\LucasArts\SWKotOR\saves choose a save game then select the file SAVEGAME.sav. after it loads open the Miscellaneous Resources and right click INVENTORY.res and EXPORT the file to override and start a new game and save it then remove the file from override.

Even tho I have about a snowball's chance in hell of actually understanding what most of yo uare talking aboot, the general tone here sounds as if it is definately on the right track.

This feeling of Hope I have.. its a good feeling :)

The spoiler mentioned by T7 a few posts up describes pretty much exactly what I was looking for so you are all DEFINATELY on the right track.

This post is here in an official 'encouragement' capasity. :D

HeDanny:

As explained by T7nowhere, the only thing you have to do is to extract your INVENTORY.res file form your last save game (or the one were you have the items you want) with the NWN explorer and drop it into your override folder. It's not complicated.

But if you want I could do it for you. Just send me either a list of the items you want to have in your inventory or a copy of your last save game where you have all those items and i'll extract the inventory.res file for you.

Sorry guys.. pls remember I am a modding 'tard, so a lot of the language used Isimply do not understand. I know it all seems simple to those of you who 'get it', but for example could you understand french if you didn't take it in High school?

Anyway.. after spending a fair amount of time trying to edumicate myself in the ways of mod, I 'think' I have this right..

I need to use one of two external apps..
NWN explorer
or KSE

SOmehow using these I can extract my inventory and temporarily acces it with the start of a new game, get the STUFF I EARNED out, then play the game as normal after saving.

Is this correct?

I am downloading KSE as I type.. but could someonle please link me to NWN explorer please?

Sorry for trying your patience with all this. I know it can be frustrating working with Noobs. I really apreciate it.

Hello HeDanny,

Let me try to break it down for you some more.

You need to extract a certain piece out of your savegame.sav file. That piece is INVENTORY.res. As T7Nowhere mentioned, you can do this with NWNExplorer (he supplied a link). You can also do this with a file called ERF Editor which you can find here (http://nwn.bioware.com/developers/erf_download.html). (That's what I use.) You have to launch either one of those programs and open up the savegame.sav file that you want to get the INVENTORY.res out of. When you open the savegame.sav with these apps, look for the INVENTORY.res file, highlight it and Export it to your Override folder as T7Nowhere suggested. After that you should be homefree, just follow the rest of T7's instructions.

ok..

I downloaded NWNWxplorer
Started a new game
Played till crashing Taris
saved game
Used nwnExplorer to open previous savegame
extracted inventory.res to Override folder
Started game with load of Taris I just made

THe inventory was unchanged. None of my stuff from my previous game was there.

I tried this 6 times with 6 different inventory.res, and none of them worked. :(

please, would anyone happen to be able to help me get this working?

what you have to do is Start a new game with the INVENTORY.res file in override. Any time I tried to load a save with that file in override the game crashed .

1.extract INVENTORY.res from a previous save.

2.copy the file to override.

3. start a new game and then save it.

4. remove INVENTORY.res from inventory

A word of warnning though if you use a save of an almost finnished game you will have many plot items in the new game. I have no idea what this could do to your game by haveing those items before your supposed to have 'em So I would recommend opening the file in a gff editor(you can find a link for you in Kitty's sticky) and go through it and remove all plot item. the way you would know if the item is a plot item is to look at the field node PLOT
Plot=0 not plot item
Plot=1 plot item

Thankx mate! U R teh Goodr!!!

It does work if you start a new game.. but not if you load from a save. Thats ok.. I dont mind starting again.

You are right about the plotitems tho.. I hope there isnt like a check or something in there barring m from parts of the game. Its taken me this long just to get it working this much.. if I have to go thru and delete or unmark items in the inventory, I think I will just cry! :(

;) just kidding..

I will post again in a few days and report on what happens in reguards to this matter.

Inside your savegame.sav file -- you'll need an ERF editor to get to it. I have used the one available from http://nwn.bioware.com/developers/erf_download.html

Edit: As of v2.1.1, KSE can now copy inventory from one savegame to another.

Of course it's cheating. You earned them in a prior game, not the current game. You don't have the same character starting a new game, you have a new one - after all, your stats aren't the same are they? By using them you're starting out a beginning character with items that make him more powerful than he would be at the beginning of a game, hence making it much easier to defeat enemies at the beginning, who are scaled to an initial difficulty with lower level items. That's called cheating :)

I don't have a problem with players playing a game anyway they want to - it's their game after all. But this is cheating. If being called a cheater by the game bothers you all that much, maybe you shouldn't be doing this :)

No more "cheat used" across your screen - tk102 just updated KSE to allow you to export import your inventory from a saved game to another: http://www.lucasforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=123671 (make sure you get version 2.1.1) :)

after going through the game several times, it's fun to mess around...and cheats are practical for testing mods...

No more excuses not to cheat :D

C'mon Grifman, you know you want to... I made KSE seductively easy to cheat with... just for you. ;) And you can even cheat the cheat stamp away too, like Darth333 said. :)
