There is a new law in Illinois called no child left behind. IT IS SO DUMB!! It states that by the year 2014 (right date?) 100% of students will pass the ISAT tests. If the schools dont then they get a warning. And if they still dont then they have to set up one on one tutoring for the students who didnt pass. If they still dont then all of the faculty is fired and replaced. First of all where are they gonna get the teachers to replace them? They dont even tell teachers what questions more most frequently missed so they can improve. So how do they expect schools to get 100%? Well, a lot of you might not know what I'm talking about but tell me what you think of it. My science teacher was telling my class about it and it interested me and a lot of other kids too, so I thought it might interest you guys too.

Hmm, guess a lot of teachers will play it safe and put 'bad' pupils into special schools / schools for mentally handicapped children.

Aren't they trying to make that a national law or something? I know its supposed to be a big thing in the upcoming election.

Horray for the American System!

(making no sense since 1776!)

I love America!

But that's still stupid.

I have a million arguments against it, but I'm wayyy too lazy to type it all out.

Yeah, it's a retarded sets of laws that Dubya is trying to get implemented on a national level. Basically what they're saying is that every kid should perform above average, which is like... impossible...

Another part of it is that teacher's will get result-based pay. That in effect means that teachers will be forced to teach according to narrow, standardized tests and not to wide, general knowledge.

The American education system is going down the crapper.

I love America too but this law is really dumb. I dont even know where they think they are going to get the tutors for the students who dont pass. Also, if they fire all the teachers where are they going to get qualified ones? They dont. They get really desperate teachers who stink because there is such a lack of teachers. That will just make things worse.

Well, the No Child Left Behind thing won't really fire anybody, though they might do paycuts if the teacher doesn't show "improvements" with his or her students.

Well, I thought they said they would "let go" (thats fancy talk for fire) all of the faculty if they dont do well after they do tutoring, or thats what my teacher told us.

Uh, yeah, if you're gonna gonna take what I said out of context, that might be a way to look at it.

Well, your topic at the moment was the failure we get when we motivate teachers.

It...it...it fits like a puzzle piece.

Mohhh, worst ever. I can't laugh too loud though, the UK has been Dumb Idea Central for the education system in recent years. :<

well... it's not so good here in germany either... in this PISA thingy we were at one of the last...

Doesn't necessarily mean the education system is fúcked up, could be there are just a lot of dumbasses. :¬:

Seriously, what I think is that our kids are spoiled. The Germans and Americans get everything served in their mother-tongue while people in Finland have to cope with English TV program, games etc. (little is translated for them) and Canadians basically have to understand English and French. Both rooled at PISA...

I will re-iterate:

"Another part of it is that teacher's will get result-based pay. That in effect means that teachers will be forced to teach according to narrow, standardized tests and not to wide, general knowledge."

I feel sorry for you if I need to explain to you why that is not a good thing.

Well it's a sad fact that children are being taught not to learn things that might actually help them at some stage in their lives or careers, but to pass tests.

Bush deserves to burn and burn slow. Granted, I do have a personal vendetta against him, but even if you took that away I'd absolutely HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE his guts.

As for America. I like the initial idea of America, but we haven't been implementing it all that well. Ever.

Look at the very creation of the stock market. Look at the bombing of Iraq on a weekly basis since 1991. Look at all the wars since WWII (none of them are constitutional). Look at our extremist have and have not society due to cutthroat industries that are now paying people in third world countries next to nothing to make shoes and paperclips. Look at the international trade and industries' downsizing (now something that is inevitable and can't be stopped untill years and years and years and years....). Look at the Pledge of Allegiance. Look at the cattle slaughterers who feed their cattle the excess meat and fat from dead cows instead of feed, causing mad cow desease and other biological complications. Look at Bush's limitation on stem cell research. Look at the Patriot Act. The national debt of $3 Trillion.

Brilliant. Just brilliant.

As for No Child Left Behind? Teachers are calling it All Children Left for Dead....

....even Bush's little minions don't like the idea.

No, mommy! I like the chemical imbalance...

[The pledge] was put there for a dumb reason anyway. To battle Communism or something.

^My main reason for not standing for the pledge (as well as the country being the crapper for a while). As for removing "God"...I think the athiests are being a little anal retentive. If you don't like the pledge because of something, then don't stand for it. Actually, I take that anal comment back, considering I'm all for the seperation of church and state(/country).

To sum up, boys and girls, the world on a governemental level....sucks. I'm going to my room now to read, then wallow and bathe in the eternal misery of humanity. Then hopscotch.

Anyone up for hopscotch and wallowing?
