View Full Version : Breaking up is fun

Just wanted to write this down so I can read it tomorrow and probably laugh at it.
It looks almost certain now that me and my girlfriend of just over 17 months will be breaking up due to our gradual growing apart and the pressure of our upcoming exams. I don't know if I'm just in really big denial but I'm insanely calm at the moment considering to single biggest commitment in my life is coming to an end in the same week as I finish school. It's been 5 hours since she told me and yet I've shed no more than a dozen tears. If this is denial I want to stay here, especially when the next stage of mourning is looking oh-so-fun being, of course, anger, then bargaining, then depression, then acceptance. Oddly, I had all of these things just a week or two ago when we had a small argument in which I was really bitterly sarcastic at her (anger), then became upset and begged her to let me call her (she had her phone off and wouldn't turn it on), then spent 15 minutes blubbing over the phone to her (bargaining). Then I watched Winnie the Pooh on DVD (don't ask), and got really depressed from it as I despaired for the world the youth of tomorrow have to grow up in. I even resolved not to have children (obviously stage 4, depression). After crying myself to sleep for 90 minutes I woke up feeling OK and refreshed (acceptance). We have seen each other just one night this week compared to our usual 3 - 5 and the e-mail she sent explaining that she doesn't know how she feels was nothing more than mildly shocking. We've been talking on-and-off over AIM for 5 and a half hours and still very little shock has sunk in on me. Bizarre. Am I in denial or did I sub-consciously see it coming last week? I think tomorrow will tell.

I know exactly what you're talking about, Feral, happened to me alot. Basically, you'll continue to be this acceptant, even when/if she breaks up with you. Of course, then there's the "I'm single and loving it!" stage. Then the "Damnit, I'm single and hating it!" period. Then the "Meh, whatever" bit. I'm sure it depends on the type of person as to whether or not you go through exactly these phases, but hey. Anyway, I hope you two don't break up, but if you do, you'll be feeling oddly refreshed, judging by your reactions so far. No worries man.

Yeah, we've ended up back together. We did break up last night after a huge talk but then this morning she ran up to me crying saying she wanted me back, and I obviously wanted her back so it all works out OK. We've had a nice day together, and we went into the local nature reserve 10 minutes before closing so we could have the place to ourselves after it closed. Fun ;).

A really fun breakup ends in two or more suicides, not a happy reunion! What books do you read, man?

Wait...I think I just figured out why I don't have a boyfriend. If this is a revelation, it sure feels gooood. I think I may try to have another one tomorrow!

wellwellwell i think that i'm too candid for serious relationships.

but what should i do when she wants something like "ohhhh! darling! come on! let's buy ___!!!"
a) shoes
b) clothes
c) other stuff i don't like

how should i answer to such torturing comments???

seems like i should answer something like that
"ohhhh! what a great idea! i'd love to buy ____!!!"
a) shoes
b) clothes
c) other stuff i don't like

but i can't. hmmmm...

No No no, you should be saying
____! What the freakin hell do we need ____ for you slimy bitch!

Of course from personal experiance, that doesn't go down too well with the ladies, but it's hella fun.

Oh and feral, that was all just a little too sappy for me to hold down...which is why I didn't, you owe me a new keyboard.

No seriously dude, great work, i knew you could do it, which is why i didn't answer this thread until now (that and the fact that people generally don't listen to me anyway)

hey, i usually prefer the non-insulting way and just tell the truth - but sometimes they think that some of my comments are offending although they should not be.

*sigh*
in my opinion you've got to be an awesome liar if you want to be in a longer relationship. ;)

oh and...sorry...here's your new keyboard (http://ethol.zool.kyoto-u.ac.jp/keyboard.gif)!

Heh heh, no, you just have to be crafty enough to tell the truth without them noticing. I have that down to a tee.
