Thought I´d collect info on Republic Commando and place it in here to keep you all up to date on it.

For the ignorant that still dont know what RC is:

Enter the dark military side of the Star Wars® universe as a squad leader of a Republic Special Operations unit. You are a Republic Commando. You must infiltrate deep behind enemy lines and lead your elite team on precision operations – lurking in the shadows, striking at will...

The parties:
Geonosians
Drones: Small but numerous. In one-on-one confrontations they're not too much trouble. The trouble is, they're rarely found singly. They can climb surfaces and can hide pretty well.

Warriors: "demonized" versions of the creatures seen in the films. They use their mighty wings to leap into battle and possess an instinctive, primal talent for combat, lunging at their enemies with deadly Force Pikes.

Elites: These giant soldiers are much larger than their brethren and represent the most dangerous element of the Geonosian forces both in terms of raw physical power and tactical sophistication. Where the Drones and Warriors rush into battle with ferocious persistence, the Elites prefer to hang back and watch for opportunities to outthink their opponents. The only good thing about these Elites is that there aren't too terribly many of them.

Trandoshans
Slaver: Though you'll undoubtedly recognize a slaver by his hitting you with the butt of his rifle for bleeding too loud, you can also spot a slaver by their distinctive hunting armor and battle scars.

Mercenary: These are the guys that the other Trandoshans sometimes look to for protection. That alone makes them worth fearing. When the action is intense, say during the boarding of an enemy capital ship, the mercenaries are the first troops in and the last ones out, providing security for other Trandoshan forces.

Scavenger Droid: Okay, so these guys aren't technically Trandoshans but they work together so closely, we had to include them here. These small hovering droids serve much the same purpose as the Astromech R2 droids, harvesting parts from damaged structures, devices and, ahem, creatures. Upon detecting a hostile presence, they attach themselves to the offender and attempt to disrupt its electrical systems.

Separatists (Trade Federation)
Battle Droid: Having no real "life" of their own, they're merciless and unrelenting fighters, supplement their lack of emotion with superior numbers and firepower. Their one weakness is their fragility; a Battle Droid will fall after just a few blaster shots. The problem is that they attack in numbers.

Super Battle Droid: Just as merciless and with as little regard for life (or other droids, for that matter), the Super Battle Droids improve on the standard model with better weaponry and armor.

Droideka: Their heavy shields and powerful weaponry make them the most feared droid among all of the Trade Federation's forces. They're also the most reliable, able to take on nearly any enemy and win. As they're immune to small arms fire, you'll have to outthink these enemies...that or bring along a bigger weapon.

Advanced Spider Droid: Their motivation is simple: kill anything even vaguely associated with the Republic. Sadly, this means you. If the Clone-killing cannon wasn't bad enough, the Advanced Spider Droid also has a compliment of missiles that can further ruin your day. Worse still, this thing actually calls out its targets in a flat, robotic voice adding irritation to what would otherwise be simple terror.

Weapons
The Republic Commando has an impressive arsenal built around the versatile DC-17m Repeating Blaster Rifle which can be converted this into a powerful sniper rifle or a penetrating anti-armor shot. This is one of the two weapons you can carry.

The Trandoshan slaver carries a shotgun-like weapon It does a tremendous amount of damage at short range but quickly loses potential at farther ranges.
The mercenaries of the Trandoshans are equipped with a sub-machine gun-like weapon that offers a steady stream of damage but fails to offer the accuracy found in other weapons.
The final Trandoshan weapon, also carried by the mercenaries, is the Concussion Rifle.

Elite troopers carry the Genosian Beam Weapon, which is a biological weapon that draws off of the Geonosian's life energy to create a very powerful cutting beam. Since the commando can't spend his own life energy to power the weapon, he'll only be able to use the weapon a few times before its power runs out.

There are three other weapons. You'll be able to grab Wookiee Bowcasters and homing missile launchers at certain places in the game.

Although you shouldn't expect the level of gore that we've seen from games like Soldier of Fortune where you can blow the limbs off of your foes, the Karma physics system does allow you to pick apart droids and send their arms and legs flying.

Also you´ll be able to use the enemies' weapons against them. There are six total weapons that the player can pick up from defeated enemies.

Gameplay
As far as gameplay is concerned the developers are looking to borrow more than a few chapters from Halo and keep the action heavy.

Also taking a cue from Rainbow Six 3 on the consoles, the targeting reticule in Republic Commando will lead to contextual potential command options that you can issue to your three (gamespy said two to four) teammates. This game takes this concept a step further by allowing you to send your teammates in formation and use specific locations to set up ambushes, sniper positions and other traps.

The whole command system basically shows you what your troops will do and where they'll do it before you issue the command so that you won't be confused by the orders you're giving. Simple things like telling your guys to hop in a turret and lay down some cover fire will still be accompanied by a green silhouette image showing you exactly what they're going to do if you issue the order.

There are also basic commands like Form Up and Search and Destroy which will put your teammates on an aggressive ass-whooping path that could get all of you in trouble if you abuse it. There's friendly fire in the game and you always have the option to simply do everything yourself but the game is going to demand that you find a decent balance of commanding versus shooting.

You'll be able to heal and revive your downed teammates in Republic Commando which adds another layer of strategy and balance to the game. Intelligent use of medipacs and keeping cool during the heat of battle will be important.

Planets - levels
The game is broken up into 12-13 levels spread across three campaigns. In Republic Commando we'll be visiting Kashyyyk, Geonosis, Republic capital ships and other locations while fighting against battle droids, Trandoshans, rolling Droidekas and "crickety" Geonosians.

Timeline
In terms of timeline, the game takes place between Episode II and III. There are some events that actually bridge the two stories together, guaranteeing that every Star Wars nerd on the Internet will buy this game.

Graphics
The atmospheric visuals in the game benefit from a combination of style and substance. The graphics engine uses the Unreal 2003 engine as a base and heads off into some cool visual territory, with high-polygon character models, richly detailed environments, and plenty of special effects. The characters all look very good and are a fine showcase for the virtues of normal mapping.

Supported gamestations and multiplayer aspect
Republic Commando will support multiplayer on both the PC and over Xbox Live. Both will allow up to 16 players to go at it in deathmatch, team deathmatch, capture the flag and a few other modes LucasArts wasn't ready to talk about quite yet. There won't be a co-op mode where you can play with other gamers as your squad mates, but Xbox Live owners will be privy to downloadable content after release.

Release
Republic Commando is expected to be released this fall winter '05 for Xbox and PC.
When contacted by GameSpot, LucasArts representatives confirmed the Republic Commando delay and gave a more specific time frame. "We're targeting early 2005," said the rep.

Whenever new valuable info is presented an update most likely will be performed ;)

New article added: Gamespot (http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/starwarsrepubliccommando/preview_6102591.html)

We asked director Tim Longo about what we might see in Republic Commando from the current and future Star Wars prequel films, and he told us the game is being used to help bridge the gap between episodes two and three of the saga. The planet Kashyyyk is featured prominently in Episode III, for instance, and we were told that you'll encounter--and occasionally have to do battle with, or even rescue--some key characters from the upcoming movie. One of the new villains, General Grievous, will make an appearance in the game, and you'll even have to take on one of his aides--and we were told it will take your entire squad to bring this enemy down.

We cant wait either. And with this modded Unreal engine people get a good chance of modding it all like they want cause after RC is released Unreal Ed will be distributed.

Now to keep you people as updated as possible there is a request to you all:
Whenever you see some news on RC that isnt mentioned before, post it in here, PM me,... so we can all have a nice updated view on it all.
Thanks in regards ;)
