One of the developers posted on the Obsidian msg boards that a LA's rep announced Christmas at Comicon. I'd post a link but their board is down for maintenance right now. You can check the "working weekend" (or something like that) thread for yourself when it comes back up.

I haven't been this excited about Christmas in 20 years.

the annoying thing about the release date is i get the distinct feeling we're being toyed with, via another thread someone said that they'd played a demo and it was awsome and that he'd chatted to the guy in charge of the stall and he'd played the whole game, and now we're being told that kotor to 'might' be released in time for christmas, instead of feb 05, it sounds like they used the same game engine tweeked the gameplay a little and have had the game ready for release for some time but they want to build up a lot of drama so when it does get released all us kotor fans will run faster than road runner to get a copy this is a typical sales technic by mister george lucus i mean look how long he made us wait for star wars episodes 4,5 n 6 to be released on dvd (the movies) i have mine pre-ordered already for when they get released on sept 20th (english release date)

Hehe...just as soon as Obsidian makes their forums available again, I'll post a quote with a link to the thread.

I realize that final decsion rests with LA, but if an LA rep said it in something as public as comicon, he'd better be ready to come through.

Seriously, I hope that LA realizes that with something this highly anticipated, it would be foolish to publicly announce something and then not follow through. The last thing an organization wants is negative branding.

QUOTE
Do you know when the release date is? Officially it was February 2005 and now it seems that the recent trend is "Winter 2004". When is the actual release date? You guys aren't rushing the game to be released in the holidays are you?

The date by which we, as in Obsidian, has to be done working on the game is not affected by the seemingly shifting release date. The date we have to be done was fixed in the contract we signed when we started the game and that date has not changed. So no, we're not rushing things to get done. We've had the same deadline from the start.

As far as the release date, one of the Lucas Arts people said December at the San Diego Comicon's Star Wars Spectacular (or whatever it was called) last week. That's probably a safe bet, but we haven't been told with absolute certainty what the release date will be. I believe at this point there still isn't an 'official' release date.

To be honest, I have no idea where 2005 came from. We were talking March 2005, then Winter 2004 and then someone pointed out that part of Winter 2004 would be in 2005, so it became Winter 2005. At least that's how it looks.

I dunno, the last interview we saw stated that TSL was pretty much done. We also know that LA started voice/music work a while ago. Actually, as I recall, they said you will have to search for your lightsaber. I took that to mean your original saber from your time as a jedi before the game. That doesn't mean that you can't use someone else's saber from near the start.

Just a thought.

From page 79 of June's EGM:

"You start out as a Jedi-no more training with Yoda look-alikes, as in the original- but that doesn't mean you'll have all your powers (being an exile tends to put you out of touch with the Force) or even a lightsaber right away. 'The lightsaber's the thing,' says Avellone. 'You should have to work for it - it make you feel that much better once you actually have it.'"

I have absolutely no problem "Working for it" but, it should all be handled very early on in the game.

This weapon is your life - Obi-Wan

It should be our first game priority to acuire/build a lightsaber... even over the game story itself. I know that is how I'm going to play it.

Just my 2 cents. :D

I understand that this is your stance. I disagree and on top of that, I get the strong impression that this won't be the case. It certainly isn't worth fighting over though :D

Well, I hope you have that option. It seems like you will be very disappointed if you don't :)

People didn't like JK2 for that reason. They wanted to be a Jedi and have a fancy flashlight from the begining. Of cource in DF, you didn't have any force powers or flashlight, and in JK, you didn't get your flashlight until about the same time, so they are too picky.

As for your second thing... If it is part of the story line, then you can't very well aquire it over the story :p. That is how I plan to play it also. I like my two flashlights (with duracell's! :D) and must have them ASAP.
Also, that is the beauty of RPGs. You can play however you want (within the game's design) and play through it (in many, many, many different ways) over and over and over and over and over....

No fighting Achillies, I have never said anyone else doesn't have a right to their opinions. :D

With a reasonable story explination as to why the 'long wait' to get a saber, I won't at all be "disappointed" in TSL. It will greatly depend on the story Obsidian is cooking up for us. :yodac:

(Note: In my opinion an unreasonably long wait is roughly the full length that Taris is in KOTOR)

If it is otherwise, as in really stupid reason for the delay in aquisition or construction, I'll just simply cheat for a saber, play it through once LS and DS, and then promptly add the CD to my CD Mobile of useless games! :)

Right next to JK:JA. :D

But with Obsidian's pedegree I really don't see this as possible! :D

Read the same thing.... Something about finding your original saber is going to be a difficult, optional sidequest, or something like that. Although, I really don't mind the wait, I kind of dig the Han Solo- kill- with the blaster parts..

I have a feeling OE will let you have one earlier in the game than K1 did. Probably off of a random apprentice kill. Seems to be what most of the fans over at their boards are pushing for.........

And that is exactly what I'm hoping for as well FiEND... Being a vetran RPG 'delver' I have no problem at all using a saber I find on any corpse early on. :D

Achillies, just to clairify what I said above, I was simply talking about the time it takes us to aquire a lightsaber... any ol' lightsaber... in the game. :D

Finding our PC's original saber, especially if it is more powerful than the rest, should definately be 'a later on in the story' achievement. :D

Yeah, whatever d00d. Just for that I'm telling Akira not to put any lightsabers in the game until the Star Forge...err, I mean the Death Star...err whatever the last...thing...is in TSL. Take that!

:D

Seriously though, we won't see any lightsaber until

a) The end of the first world
b) The beginning of the second world.

AND, I still think that you'll get it in pieces and have to put it together. :)

ok i dont mind building the lightsabre but why would u need to if ur not going through the training process

and i dont mind waiting as long as i did in kotor 1 to get my hands on a lightsabre if the storyline is good

however i would still like to get my hands on one sooner just like everyone else on this thread even if its via a difficult sidequest

otherwise many players may try to cheat or mod to get one b4 completing the game taking away some of the enjoyment of the game

some one should tell obsidian that kotor fans are lightsabre junkies and we need lightsabres and we need them now

ok i've said it b4 and i'll say it again

everything i keep hearing about tsl story, plot and characters
is pointing to it having a very simalar plot to kotor 1 which as we've all said would be very dissapointing especially after how long we've had to wait and after all our eager anticipation

If that is truely the fact, I simply won't wait that long, meaning I'll just cheat to get a saber, unless the story really, really makes a whole heap of sense as to why this is so, and if the reason for the wait is lame then Obsidian will have, at least, one very disappointed customer on their hands... because that is a straight out copy of KOTOR 1's formulaic game progression, and that is just a very LAME property in a sequel.

For me the 'how long till we get a saber' issue is all dependant on the storyline.

I hope it is that way as well, as you know Achillies, I also don't mind that possibility in the least! :)

Everything I've seen thus far seems to suggest progressive growth of the character. I cannot imagine that OE will follow Bioware's recipe of "boom, now you're a Jedi, here's your lightsaber".

You will start the game as a Jedi, but an outcast who has, for the most part, lost touch with your connection to the Force. I'm hoping for a couple of Force powers that suck up a lot of Force points and only give me a slight advantage in combat (at least until I get stronger). I'm also hoping that they don't give me a lightsaber right away :D.

I'm not saying that I want it half way through the game, but 15-20% of the way though the game does not sound that unreasonable to me.

If OE's written a storyline that reads, "You're a Jedi, but your connection to the Force is weak. Don't worry though cuz you get to start out with a bunch of Force powers and we're going to give you a lightsaber about 30 minutes into the game" the I'm going to be sorely disappointed. :)

I sure hope they do it like that, it would be so swwweeeettttt. Much better than waving your hands around & poof a saber.

*waves his hands and gets a football thrown at his face* :ball:

Well...I just hope you have to work for it...not just see some cutscenes of ur character training with bastila getting ur butt kicked and then all of a sudden ur whooping bastila's butt.Naw....YOU actually do the training...and I like the whole find components to make a lightsaber..I dun want a vender selling Lightsabers on the corner street of Dninom Road in Telos...well if they did then I would either

A) Kill the vender and jack those lightsaber/S
B) Buy them...but at a suitable price.
C) KILL ALL THE CITIZENS WALKING ON THAT ROAD!!!

PS:How do I delete posts...my browser was kinda freaking up when I tried to post..:ball:

See Achillies we are actually agreeing with each other on many points, we are just approaching the whole subject from opposite ends! :D

And like I said, for me, it all really is dependant on the story. That is what an RPG is all about! :)

As far as starting as a Jedi Class we will get the same identical Skill points, Jedi powers, and Feat Progressions per level up, that we got in KOTOR, the class level progression should be identical, being D20 system and all. :)

The only difference being Obsidian said that the skills will be more effective in TSL. :D

Errr....ok *shrug*

I heard, "I better get a lightsaber right away or else this game is teh sux0r". Followed by, "If I have to wait until the second planet, the OE is ripping off BW and I'm going to have to fly a plane into their shizzle". :D

All I'm saying is that they said I have to work for it, I don't think I'm going to get it until I'm a couple/few hours into it, and I'm perfectly ok with that because it doesn't make any sense to do it any sooner than that.

We very well may be having the to po-tA-to pO-ta-To debate and that's cool, but that's not what I heard :D

ok i have visited lucasarts and guess what they say that u dont start with a lighsabre but u do get a sidequest almost immediately to go find ur lightsabre or if u want u can use a sword until u kill a dark jedi and u can use theirs here's a link to anyone interested
