View Full Version : Computer games - getting tired - what next?

No, I'm not talking about the games themselves. It's about ME playing them.

First, my internet connection sucks. It's dialup. It also connects at 24kbps, which is something like 1/3 of regular dialup. And, for those of you who say "then get broadband"... I can't. I frickin live in the middle of nowhere, limited budget. I mean, it's not like I'm sitting around wondering if broadband is better...

Main problem: I'm bored. With games. This year I, erm, procured something like 15+ new games. I played them. I played them again. No multiplayer, but mods and levels, yes. I'm just sick and tired of everything and i need something new.

I've played:
Quake Series
Unreal Tournament Series
Jedi Knight Series
X-Wing Series
Freespace Series
Doom Series
Half-Life Series
(yes, every single game in all of those)

single games:
Return to Castle Wolfenstein
Halo (I HATE HALO DIE XBOX KIDDIES)

Hates: strategy, RPG, etc.

Note: If you want to tell me how im a whining loser, I'd sorta prefer you not, because i know it.

WHAT SHOULD I PLAY NOW?!?!

Check out the Fallout series.

It's an RPG set in the post-apocalyptic world with humor and violance.......everything a game should be.

Finding good SP games can be hard to come by, especially with all the focus on MP gaming nowadays. Have you considered the Grand Theft Auto series? Not much strategy there, just drivin' fast and terrorizing the populace.:D

I've also heard the Spinter Cell games are pretty good. I've never played them though, so don't take my word for it. *shrugs*

well, I suggest you go play with yourself.... :p

because unless you start looking into other genres(how could anyone say they hate RPGs without at least giving KOTOR and even NWN a try)....

yeah, and from the type of games you seem to like, maybe check out Battlefront.......

can I go now.... :p

Try FarCry or Splinter Cell Series

Star Wars: Knights of the old republic. It's an RPG, but it's totally sweet and it has good replay value too and mods!

Doomie

Yes, it's officially the best game ever. Also, Splinter cell IS good, but once you've finished that, it's not very fun anymore. I hope you'll revisit your opinion about Halo (Don't see how you could dislike it, let alone hate it)

And even if you dislike Gametypes, you should be able to like the evry best of them. Try Warcraft 3 TFT, Starcraft, Age of Mythology: Titans or C&C Generals: Zero Hour...

Legacy of Kain: Defiance.

1: It'll tell you everything that happened in the other games, so all the pointless hours you'll save solving puzzles can be skipped.
2: All you do is walk around and kill people (80% of the time).

And one last thing: Expand your gaming preferences.

Aye. I kicked the gaming habit a few months ago. They're fun once every couple of weeks. But every single day.. Oi. It's a total brain drain.

If you're bored, that doesn't mean you need new games. It means your tired of games in general. Seriously. Work on cutting back on the gaming a bit. I promise you won't regret it.

try The Longest Journey, a point-and-click puzzle solving adventure (think Myst), with one of he greatest storylines ever.could be kinda hard to get though, kinda old...

I know how you feel. Even though you said you don't like RPGs, I would give KOTOR a try. I'm not a huge RPG fan either. The Turn based thing kinda gets on my nerves. But, I picked this up because of all of the hype and I'm not sorry I did. It's like a cross between an RPG and a FPS. It is a fun game. Sucks about your interenet connection...

He said he had a bad internet, BF seems to me like an MP game...

Try:
Farcry
GTA games
Call of DUTY
Medal of Honor
Alien Vs. Predator 2
LEC adventure games

Datheus

The problem with Medal of Honor is once you beat it. It's over. It has next to zero on the replayability scale. However, GTA is a good suggestion.

I agree with Datheus here. See if there's a library nearby. Or try visiting places and such. Or you can try to look up Porn Weird, Cool, Funny and other such stuff on the internet. Play games as a pastime, not a full-time job.

arg, I live 20 miles away from teh nearest town, which has only 4,000 people (i think that explains the net connection), reason why is, Dad used to be a farmer, but he's not anymore, so both parents go to work in town, i go to school in town. Mom is thinking of some way to like take care of a house of someone on vacation this winter, or, best case, I would get to stay at my friend's house the whole school year (frickin awesome family, nothing cooler and funnier than his dad from Lebanon that lived in Mexico).

Oh yeah, outside is great. Me rides me bike everyday to get the mail at the mailbox, which is 3 miles away, uphill both ways (really!). As for social stuffage, well, theres the 20 miles away (very bad for gas, prices as they are), plus school isn't out yet, but it starts like thursday (Aug, 26).

As for girls, I have yet to see one that deserves a "Game of the Year" award, although some come close in the "Graphics" score. Very bad in the "Can actually think for herself" score though, I think i just live in a crappy place for that sort of thing, biggest problem is they're mostly *cough*mormon*sneeze* (personal problems, nothing against ANYONE here, of course) it's mostly the whole "way of thinking" (plus church | state violations, grrr....)

I think ill cut down on the gaming, but I really would like to get started on doing something USEFUL with computers. I have no idea what, though. Suggestions?

Agreed, except you usually have to spend more than 50 dollars on girls before the real fun begins :xp:

I'm kidding of course, I love my girlfriend immensely and it's always more fun to be with her than playing video games

That's just incase she ever visits this forum :D

i know you are going to hate it, but i'd suggest getting a console.

I was getting very bored and jaded with PC games a while back (still am a little) and i picked up a cheap second hand Gamecube as an alternative. It definately rekindled my interest in gaming a bit.
I wouldn't have it as my only system, but it makes a great contrast to my PC games as the games on it are almost totally different.
In an odd way, i always thought of consoles as kiddy toys, but as you get older and you have more "life" to take up your time it is actually nice to have more "simple" games that you can just sit down and have a blast on for a few minutes without learning huge amounts of stuff.
Nintendo excell at simple, fun games.

*simple not always meaning easy or juvenile, but where the importance is on fun, not graphics, story, complexity or whatever...

Either that or just take a break from games for a few weeks...
