View Full Version : The fangame: A cry for help

01-03-2005, 05:15 PM
Okay, there hasn't been any news about the fangame here for over half a year, but that doesn't make it dead - far from it actually. Normally, I wouldn't talk about it here (because all our team members are over there), but we need help. We only have one sprite artist working on the animations for Sam & Max, and this is a problem because a) Sam & Max have a lot of animations, too many for one person, and b) this sprite artist is also a college student, so he barely has time to upload sprites. So I'm calling out to all you S&M fans with artistic talent. Our goal for these sprites is to kind of mimic the HTR style of Sam & Max, but less pixelized. Anybody who's really good at drawing Sam & Max standing, walking, talking, etc. go over to www.thedaemonofid.com/phpBB2 , enter the art forum and show us what you can do.:)

If you guys aren't going to help, just shut your mouths.

01-06-2005, 08:49 PM
Seriously. We've been working hard and have achieved a lot so far, so shut up if you don't want to help.

Achieved a lot so far?

01-08-2005, 06:38 PM
A lot. All puzzles written (although 1 or two sections have to be cut down and edited little, as they require too many extraneous backgrounds, etc). The dialogue/object descriptions/interactions are being written, most of the music is done, programming has progressed to the point where it is playable (and getting better!), the first section of the game has all of it's backgrounds drawn and most of them are colored. And, although it's the least of our priorities, we are designing a website.

All goes well.

I beleive it when I see it

So for there has been no published content, screenshots, or a rundown of the script. If it's realy that far along you shouldn't be crying for help.

We've come along great on the progress of the game up to this point where the only thing we need to continue are animated sprites, which is why we're asking for help. Everything else is great. It really shows what you guys know about the game.

Besides, if you want your published content, screenshots, and rundown of the script, why not wait until we get our website going?

01-09-2005, 07:05 AM
THats just the point how can we be expected to know anything about the fangame if we aren't aware of any progress you've made. There hasn't been a post here for months so you can't blame us.

01-09-2005, 09:36 AM
Well, as SMNMX said earlier, our story writing is finished, but there are some places that we could still cut out, but we usually decide this as we go along through programming. We have music tracks for almost every location except for a few, so we're prepared in that area. Art is our main focus, as we're doing the lineart and coloring for the room backgrounds. Programming is going along fine, but it really depends on the art team at this time, because it hinges on when the final backgrounds and sprites are created.

So in every area, except for sprite drawing, we're pretty well prepared for the long-term future of making this game. Sprite drawing is where we're stuck since we only have one guy working on the stuff and he's disappeared several times, only returning to our forums occasionally. He probably just doesn't have that much spare time. So in short, we're desperate for some more sprite artists. I'm helping out on some of the other sprites, such as static objects, but we need some other people to work on the Sam and Max sprites.

We don't want to post any of our stuff in public yet (screenshots, MP3s, etc.) because we want it all to be a surprise. :) Just be patient. We're working on a six-room demo, complete with full-fleshed puzzles, due in March, but we'll probably only make it public in mid-May after Lucasarts loses their rights. And this demo can only happen if a) we get a few more sprite artists or if b) the guy we have gets them all done by himself.

Oh yeah, and sorry that I sounded rude in my previous post. It just seemed like everyone was acting really hostile and not in any mood to help us. If any one can assist to fixing our sprite problem, PLEASE help us out.

Why don't you check in the mokney island forums I'm sure theres someone there who can make sprites.

01-10-2005, 03:23 PM
Ooh! Good idea. We'll ask there as well.

03-06-2006, 05:35 PM
this project sound neat. I am looking to make my own fan game of this (and a Indiana Jones game). I have been looking for people to help with my Indy game. Would you be interested?

So now that you've been laughed at, berated, and asked by someone else to instead help with their fangame, don't forget to add us to the "Special Thanks" list.

Hey guys I was wanting to start a fan game for the rare Duckman game that no one ever played.

Isn't it cool? I'll do the voices and the script and you all get to work!

Duckman? is that some kind of cheesy 90s style parody of the already stupid "Superman?

Quite obviously it is a Howard the Duck spin-off, only the greatest movie of all time. Ever. I'll do sprites for you, Gerbil, but I have to go to college and flake out and have a life so I might not work very fast.

03-08-2006, 11:04 PM
Wait wait... Howard the Duck spin off?

03-08-2006, 11:24 PM
Yes he said Howard the Duck spin off

03-08-2006, 11:58 PM
how drole.

03-09-2006, 10:19 PM
The Duckman cartoon was pretty badass.... back in the day. It had the original Happy Tree Friends as Duckman's assistants. [rolls eyes]

Still, it was a pretty cool show.

03-10-2006, 10:50 AM
Sounds lame.

03-10-2006, 06:24 PM
Yeah...based on the website, I wouldnt call the fan games progress great. And I'm really not trying to be an ass.

When you first announced it here, I thought "Cool, I can draw, maybe I'll help out" But alas, I recently lost my scanner to a soda accident, and figured,

"Eh, they can probably draw better than me anyways."

I see the art on the website now, and relize I was horribly wrong. Im a way better artist, and I pity you for not having me.

Plus, if you REALLY want a sprite artist, I can do a better job than your current guy, who is just ripping them from Sam and Max Hit The Road and smoothing them out. Thats pretty obvious off just what I saw on the site.

Hell, if I ripped the original sprites to do it, I could do a hell of alot better job than that at making them look cooler.

I still dont have a scanner, so I'll tell you what, wait, and let me get one before you waste time with more art like I saw on the site, or goto Wal*Mart and buy a $55 one and mail it to me and I'll do your games art in exchange.

Risky? For you. Pay off? A better game.

I might have sounded like an ass by the end of that.

03-10-2006, 10:18 PM
Eh, relatively, I don't think you sounded like an ass in this thread, Shmargin. Also, I remember Duckman fondly now, just hadn't heard or thought about it in several years.

03-11-2006, 03:42 AM
Well, all I'm sayin if any of that art was anything close to whats going in the final, I wouldnt play it. The location art and the sprite art are about as different as they could be, and would look horrible together.

BTW, what if you want a character that wasnt in Hit The Road? It would be kinda funny if you just ripped characters from other Lucas arts games. Maybe change it up a little.

Like a black Guybrush.

Is it more proper to say African American? But what if its an English black person...er....African Ameri....what the **** ever. You get the point.

04-22-2006, 10:40 PM
Yes he said Howard the Duck spin off
laughing on line!

04-28-2006, 12:00 AM
haha all i can say is just let it be. like come on seriously guys this is a sam and max forum people who are DIE HARD FANS and they couldn't care! so what would others think? telltale games is making a new one right? and if we had to wait 3 - 4? years for the first game i couldn't really care i'm not waiting 12 years for all 3 games to be done.... into 1 story Maybe you guys should have worked a team out BEFORE you started development that is what most people do :P

Good luck anyway.

04-28-2006, 07:18 AM
Joshsux, you're knowledge knows no bounds. Do you just go up to strangers and tell them what's what in real life also? Or is this just for internet kicks?

I seem to have difficulties abstracting his post. Did he just say "Egypt"?

05-02-2006, 07:29 PM
Do you want to buy the FM TOWNS version of LOOM?!

05-02-2006, 07:51 PM
Who on earth still has an FM Towns

05-03-2006, 02:26 AM
The Japanese of course.
