when i was a bit younger i read the Black Fleet Crisis, the main focus of which is the war between the New Republic and the Yevetha, but it included a subplot i remember only bits and pieces of where Luke went off in search of his mother whom he recieved dubious news might still be alive. She apparently went off with some religious group that was a bit odd. I think that it was established the woman Luke was trying to find was dead, and i dont remember if it was definately his mother. I think its established in Tyrants Test, the last book of the series that there was a possibility she was never there at all, but she may have been which seems like a cop out on the authors part, but a sensible one because the prequels have since come out and could have skewed the story completely. Im pretty sure i remember reading that George Lucas gets final approval on all EU material so is it possible he would allow Padme to be alive in the EU? of course if she dies in ep 3 and its seen, that would settle it, but if Lucas has Padme's death penned in for ep 3 why would he allow a misleading story like the one in the Black Fleet Crisis.

also seperate question but along the same lines: has Padme ever been mentioned properly in the post ROTJ EU?

maybe he ok'd it before he wrote the episode three script

almost certainly but then again im sure he would have some idea in his mind of Padmes fate

I think it is time to read them over. Luke is duped into helping this girl, and later finds out that the person she said was his mother wasn't. So that is perfectly consistent with the prequels.

werdage. The Black Fleet Crisis was very dissapointing IMO, leading you along with this 'mother of skywalker' subplot and then it just being a hoax at the end of the third book :(

I really find it hard to believe that Lucasfilm licensing wouldve allowed a book detailing anything significant about Mother Skywalker(Padme) without serious consultation with GL. Please remeber that EpI was being planned from at least as early as 1995. The Black Fleet Crisis was released even after this IIRC - many saw through the ruse back then, let alone now when we are in prequel fever :p

Padme was only referred to by Leia in ROTJ, and not by name of course. She has extremely vague memories of her and remembers her as being very sad :(

This is obviously a kick in the a$$ to the ppl whp go around saying Padme may die at the end of ep3. Leias words in ROTJ alone make this impossible...she has to be a bit older than a newborn if she can remember her mother... ??but when she went to live with Bail Organa, di dPadem tag along ??

ah well, we will find out in May :D

As far as I have read/seen, apart from the Black Fleet Crisis, there is no mention of Padme in post ROTJ EU, even in Tatooines Ghost Leia only sees Schmi via video diary entries.
Im sure there will be a 'skywalker family revealed' book once ep3 is over, where Luke and Leia will find out about their parents relationship, and Padme in particular :)

Leper, welcome back to EU forums, get yer barmy a$$ over to the thread and show us what you're made of ! :D

Maybe, its been a while since I read it, too, to be honest. But regardless of whether or not the book left it ambiguous, we know now that it was not.

let me tell you fellows again. There was no ambiguity to it. The Fallanassi woman Akanah was duping Luke in order to gain his help in her mission, of locating the rest of her people.

*sigh* lemme quote the CUSWE on 'Akanah', the Fallanassi woman who led Luke on a merry dance :D
She came to him with an offer to help him find his mother and thereby ease some of his emotional burden. She took Luke to her homeworld of Lucazec, but they failed to find any information on Luke's mother. They did find a Fallanassi marking indicating where they[The missing Fallanassi] fled to, and left Lucazec only after battling with Imperial agents left behind to intercept the Fallanassi. They continued to follow a path known only to Akanah, traveling to Teyr and Atzerri before arriving on J't'p'tan. Akanah was very secretive about their search, which worried Luke about her motives.

One think I loved about the NJO was that it deployed the Yuuzhan Vong to wipe the Yevetha from existence, which they achieved spectacularly. This means that the "Black Fleet Trilogy" may as well have as not existed :D

When did the Vong destroy the Yevetha? it sounds fun and i guess looking at where Koornacht Cluster is (on the little map on the front of the NJO books), which is where i remember the Yevetha being based, it is right in the line of the Vong invaison. Just as well they went, apart from the technology differences they were pretty similar races. Actually the Yevetha could have made good Vong allies (ultimately expendable to the Vong though, like the Peace Brigade)

It is during Force Heretic I: Remnant, I believe. It may have been one of the other two though.

As for the topic, I think I remember Akanah basically told Luke she lied and just needed his Force Sensitive help to find her home.

Yeah, most of the book is about Jacen and Vergere, but Ganner also plays an important role

Leia says that "she died when I was very young" in ROTJ. Of course Leia could have been wrong I suppose.

My guess is that Lucas just didn't give the EU guys much direction about Luke's mother.

The easy-cop out would simply be that Luke is a dupe and that whatever "mother" he's looking for will turn out to be an imposter, or some character that changed his diaper once and not his real mother. Oh well...

Um no... we've already said what happened. Akanah tricked Luke to help her find her people...

yes, my dear phreak. but you must realise K is a very busy man. He has not the time to read our detailed and researched answers. I think I remember him saying once that he actually just reads the first and last words of every post...

like your post above would have registered as "Um...people" :p

GL had decided to green light the prequels as early as 1995.... Luke's mother would obviously be central to them...so he didnt really need to give EU ppl a direction, as he hadnt fleshed it out himself.......OMG Im repeating myself !

*sigh* :p
