Well, after experiencing Farcry on my old 1.8GHz system with a GeForce4 Ti 4400 and all the lag that goes with it, I figured it was time to bite the bullet and get an updated gaming rig, especially since I was planning on Half-Life 2, Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault, Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, and a whole slew of other new games that would probably give my old system a heart attack.
After dealing with Best Buy for the past few computers I got, I decided it was time to do it my way and build it myself. It took a while, and after some problems with the build, it is finally done, and playing half life 2 on max settings without so much as a hicup.

Anyway, the stats of this beast are:

Intel 915P Motherboard

3.4 GHz P4 Processor

1GB RAM

GeForce 6800 256MB PCI-Express Graphics Card

160GB Serial Hard Drive

And it's all wrapped up in this case (http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc.asp?description=11-156-148&depa=0)

Top it off with a 19" flat screen monitor, and you got one helluva gaming rig.

I can't wait to see the new splinter Cell game on this thing.

Thanks to all who gave recommendations and tips for the graphics card. It was a tough choice, but I am sooooo happy with what I got, cause it's playing my games smooth as silk.

nice setup :D

the type of games I play(RPG !) dont demand such specs....and besides, I am a man on the go, I couldnt live without my laptop. Too bad they dont have 256mb graf cards for mobile processors yet, just 128mb(which still suits my purposes fine :D)

For just the system, just under $1500 thanks to newegg.com. The monitor, keyboard, and mouse was an extra $250 at best buy.

This motherboard that I got is amazing, and so is the case. Down the road, it can hold up to 4GB of RAM and as many as four hard drives. in addition to the pci-expressx16 socket, it's got two pci-expressx1 slots, and four pci slots.

Upgradeable up the yinyang.

I don't need an upgrade. I got a 2.4 ghz processer pc and my roller coaster tycoon 3 is running flawlessly.

I wish I had an nVidia GeForce 6800...

Oh well, my days will come...

My latest upgrades are a graphic card update to nVidia GeForce FX 5200 and Windows XP.

Jesus man. I almost have the same system as you. Even the case! Bought it a few weeks ago. A few differences, however:

My case is grey. I think it goes better with the red.

AMD64 3500+

It's an ASUS motherboard.

I bought the 6600.

The selection for PCI-e boards with a 939 socket is really poor, unfortunately. I had these options:

a) This expensive ASUS that is way more powerful than my needs. (It's an SLI board..)

b) A Chaintech board. I was really hesitant to go with Chaintech. I had a bad experience with Soyo and I'm very hesitant about buying anything from Taiwan now.

c) A Gigabye board that was never in stock. And when it was, it sold out in roughly 10 minutes. Seriously.

I just justify myself by saying that the ASUS gives me plenty of room for upgrading and power-whoring. :¬:
