video game tournament shut down by the school district because the game they were using, halo 2, is too violent. yea, who cares about people suffereing right now, unfounded tests show that its might be possible that video games might be responcible for violence among youth.... :disaprove

That was a brilliant idea, and the people who canned it should be kicked in the face.

I live near this school (about thirty miles away) and they seem to be really sensitive about these things that could get them sued! I would have let them do it if I saw those sigs from parents saying that it was okay.

And that game was made about 10 miles away from the school. How does Microsoft feel about that?

At my old elementary school my principal banned hangman because it was too violent, so he replaced it with a flower.

I went to a Christian activity night thing with one of my friends before, and they had Halo going on. So Halo 2 probably isn't all that violent...no more violent than foosball or dance dance revolution(it's better than DDR, actually...freaks....)

if i was organizing it i would just move the venue to a community center. if the govt wants to be stupid, we can remove them from the equasion :) they will lose any possible food/beverage sales.

We were actually playing Halo 2 at lunch once, principal walked by and didn't care one bit even though she probably saw all the blood and stuff.

What the **** is with people with games...god.

That is true, I was watching Saving Private Ryan at school and a teacher came up behind and commented what a good movie it was. And the teacher was an old woman! She saw when the heads were blown off the guys when they were on top of a tank.

Gimme a break.

Hell at my school, one of the teachers/freshman moderator during a assembelly mentioned Halo 2 and a couple of kids cheered :P

So not everyone who works at a school freaks out about violent video games.
I think the principal even mentioned it once. :D

Halo 2 is hardly violent. And I see no random violence encouraging going on. The game is about being a hero for goodness sake. A HERO!

"But we must respect the religion of the non-existant covenant! Just because of their difference in religion we shouldn't kill them!" -That one person who was "hurt" by Halo and was threatening to sue if people didn't listen to him

But the boys remind us that the district canceled Halloween celebrations because they were insensitive to the Wiccan religion.

Ah how I love these crazy freaks...

What a bunch of freakin' idiots. I mean, even the parents signed off on the freakin' idea.

Maybe they do have a point. I mean, violence has never been a good way to make people's lives better. Thats why we dont have war any more, right? I mean, obviously computer images of people in armor and aliens fighting is much worse, but still.

Yah, well the government is run by a bunch of monkeys.
And this is a country that is so free that we can't even offend people cause its "against the law" AKA: A great subject to us to file law suits on. :-\

Who cares if we offend Wiccan people? Really, who cares if we offend one or two people because we dress up like witches? Jeez!
Its not like parents say, "Hey Sally, you want to dress up like a Wiccan woman for Halloween?"
:p

Wiccans care...I would assume. Of course, with the country based in Christian beliefs so deep it chokes me at night when I try and sleep that the common response is often the ignorant one:I.e: Who cares if we offend Wiccan people?

Whether or not your a religious person, its just the way it is.

And of course, I mean no offense. Of course, if you are offended I'm happy with that scenario as well.

I am so off-topic.

All judgement aside, it was in the school's power to cancel the tournament, as (I'm assuming) it was going to be held on school property. Now, if the seniors hosted the tournament at a LAN party or building off of school grounds, then the district would have no right to intervene.

Sigh.

The common misconception of Wiccans are witches and warlocks. As stated - misconception. Thats nothing but American urban-legends or whatever mixing up 2 very different and distinct practices. You want witches and warlocks, talk to the people who practice(of all things)WITCHCRAFT.

Wicca on the other hand is - simply put - the worship of nature, drawing power from nature, and protecting nature. Think druids.

Seriously, the US would be a better place if they made lawsuits illegal. Or if you sue someone for a dumb reason you're promptly executed

Yeah, there should be a "Lawsuit dumbness" jury in every court room, who decide dumb or not dumb.

Look at all those idoits!

What so gorey about Halo 2? Just because theres blood doesnt mean its violent, even if you fall and hurt yourself and you bleed, do you call that violent?

Yah, I have always see violence as seeing real people getting hurt. Like, I remember seening a small part of Scarface or some other movie like it when I was 5, it freaked me out.

And when I first played Dark forces I was scared that grammoreans were under my bed :D and I couldn't play it without the invicibility cheat code "LAimlame" I used it so much I can still remember it. :p

But, now I know the difference between whats real and not, so I see video games as fun, not a way to "vent my anger until the day I kill someone."
