One MP feature I'd like to see is a way to mute players, or at least have some kind of admin anti-spam for chat.



1 Bob
2 Joe
3 Sue

If you want to mute joe you would type /mute 2, etc.


If a person chats or spams chat so many times server will auto-mute person for a duration. Sensitivity and duration adjustable by admin.

Good or bad idea? :cool:

I concur that this is a good idea.

However, I think there should be more control over it, than just a simple mute.

Like the admin should decide if they can still use private chat/team chat.

I notice we have people sometimes spamming irrelevant voice chat too, so that's another consideration. The Cvars ought to choose what level of muting you wish to employ.


\mute <client #> <level of mute>

1= No public chat
2=No team chat
3=No voice chat
4=No public or team chat
5=No public chat, team chat, or voice chat

Or something along those lines, whatever is easiest. Private chat is rarely used, but at least that should be kept open if somebody needs to communicate with another player.

And if you really wanted to get fancy, a "timed mute" (say 30 seconds) option.

Should players be told they are muted? That would seem a good idea.

Or maybe it could be done in such a way that the admin can still see what the muted person is typing, but nobody else can. Like it would preface the person's chat with <MUTED> for the admin's view.

Edit ... I see what you mean now. Should level 5 be the default however?

Also, since it will be a new feature most aren't aware of. Is there a help system for the mod? Example, person joins and gets a message type /help for instructions on features and it could have a table contents with listings, such as /help mute, /help this or /help that.

Glad you enjoy the server. I wanted to contribute in someway. I think this is one of the best mod projects and ideas I've seen in all of gaming.
