Yes, March 3rd. One year ago today the life of Sam & Max: Freelance Police was cut short before their time.

I expect everyone here to play as many LucasArts adventures as they can get their hands on, and even others like the Discworld and Broken Sword games, or Beneath A Steel Sky on ScummVM.

Then raise your glasses in a toast to the funniest adventure that never was. Sniff.

And to celebrate, I've made a little quiz. Let's prove who's the Ultimate LucasArts Adventure fan here.
NOTE1: I'm sure some obsessive picky fan (like myself) will point out some incorrect answers. Ah well.
NOTE2: I'll post the answers either tomorrow, or if I need to give people more time, Monday. If someone gets them all right, then I'll stop earlier obviously.

There are more than 9 indy games: emperors tomb, infernal machine, desktop adventures, fate of atlantis (adventure), fate of atlantis (action), last crusade (adventure), last crusade (action), temple of doom, revenge of ancients, greatest adventures, instruments of chaos, young indy chronicles, another last crusade action game and that indiana jones and his life of adventure for that challenger gizmo, if anyone remembers it ( don't know if the last one counts as a video game)

Don't forget the Sam & Max cartoon show, though that wasn't based on a LucasArts property per se, it was a LucasArts adventure game and then a TV series. Or is that defeating the trick of the trick question?

The Tingler
03-03-2005, 02:57 PM
Remio - 9&10. Doesn't mean that's the answer! In fact, re-read the questions...

13. MI1? On what?

16. MI1 doesn't have an alternate ending, just different ways of doing it. We're talkin' completely different here. Fate of Atlantis definitely does not - all the paths meet at the end.

Algardex - put the word spoiler in [ ] brackets, then finish with /spoiler in the same brackets. Like so: We're counting both Last Crusade Action games as the same. Instruments of Chaos & Revenge of the Ancients weren't released, were they? They don't count. Otherwise, you haven't fallen for the question - well done!

Jake - I count it, although I probably should've worded the question better. So the answer's 2.

MrManager

Somebody should have checked up on stuff before making a quiz. ;-*

13. MI1? On what?
MegaCD. http://www.scummbar.com/games/index.php?game=1&sub=media&todo=2&format=sega

16. MI1 doesn't have an alternate ending, just different ways of doing it. We're talkin' completely different here. Fate of Atlantis definitely does not - all the paths meet at the end.

No, alternate endings.

MI1 - http://www.scummbar.com/imageviewer/imageviewer.php?useimage=/games/trivia/full/1/9021704092038.gif

FoA - Sophia can be killed while in trance, leaving Indy alone on the sub at the end.

11. Which is the odd one out? (CLUE: Nothing to do with licenses)

I haven't read if the actual answers have been posted yet or what (or anyone elses answers, I actually want to have fun with this) but here are my answers anyway. Oh, and a lot of these are guesses

Umm... 2: Indy FoA and Maniac Mansion.

I didn't know about them but Technically, didn't The Secret of Monkey Island have multiple endings based on whether you sunk the ship or not?

And also (btw, I'm not picking on you cappuchok, with either of these points, this is just in general to everyone) didn't spielberg only direct Indy, GLucas came up with the story.

The Tingler
03-04-2005, 12:19 PM
I won't accept Monkey Island 1 as a multiple ending I'm afraid. Nor Indy Fate of Atlantis, because if that's true you can include any game where you or another character can die as an "alternate ending". We're talking main character doing different stuff in the final closing moments here.

And I'm sort of regretting No. 3 (The Indy Games question) because I've noticed that everyone seems to have just rushed off to a different site and got the answer. And there was far more than I'd heard of. I think this is down to localisation more than anything - I don't think a number of them were actually released in the UK, which is why I haven't heard of them. Rats. I'll accept most of the answers in that case, save Joshi's, who is the only one who fell into the '4' trap.

Everyone seems to be getting 11 wrong, so I'll give another clue:
What are LucasArts best at?

Thunderpeel2001 - All right, I'll accept all those answers bar 8, 9 and 11. Cleverclogs.

cappuchok - 6 - No. TV SERIES, not films.
7, 8, 9 - Nope.
11 - nah. Indy Fate had the MI2 control system.
12 - Way to straddle the fence!
16 - Definitely wrong.

Joshi - Good for you! I hope everyone follows your example! More fun that way. And don't pick on Cappuchok - I think he did better than you did! 3. You really haven't seen everyone else's, have you? ;) We're having a major debate behind those closed captions! See above.
4 & 5 - Wrong.
7 - Nah, that'd be Postal in general rather than specifically Postal 2. Good answer though!
8 - Who said you had to play them to know the answer to this one? :p
9 - Oh ha ha. Make us feel old, why don't you. Swine.
10 - Hmm. No.
11 - What was Loom based on? No though. See above.
13 & 14 - Nope.
15 - Half a point. Where?

Indiana Jones 3: everyone seems to have just rushed off to a different site and got the answer.

Actually I compiled that list for a website called www.IndyGames.com where I got exclusive interviews from Hal Barwood, Noah Falstein and that bloke who did the first ever Indiana Jones game. Sadly the website fell through and www.theraider.net went and compiled their own list anyway, so it seemed like there wasn't as much need any more.

[QUOTE] 6 - No. TV SERIES, not films.
7, 8, 9 - Nope.
11 - nah. Indy Fate had the MI2 control system.
12 - Way to straddle the fence!
16 - Definitely wrong.
Hmm. OK, I'll have a go at those again... here goes...
6 - only one series: Maniac Mansion.
7 - well, cross-referencing on Mobygames gives that Gary Coleman was in both games.
8 - still no clue. Snakes?
9 - the player characters all have sidekicks? Nah...
11 - Well, out of the four, Loom is the only one that has no action sequences. So it's the only pure adventure game (Sam & Max had action sequences in minigames).
12 - OK OK - there has been one (1) Star Wars adventure game: Yoda Stories.
16 - In that case, I can only think of Maniac Mansion, so that's 1. In all fairness, I do think that any user-influenced difference to an ending qualifies as alternate (such as Monkey Island where you could sink the ship or not and get additional scenes in the ending), but going by your criteria, I'll say 1.

1. What is the Portable Car-Bomb Game based on and where can you find it?
Battleships, and Snuckey's (nearest the Carnival) in Sam & Max.

2. Hal Barwood has only made three games at LucasArts.
b) False
Apart from the main trio of Indy Fate, Indy Infernal and RTX Red Rock, he was also responsible for Yoda Stories, Indy Desktop Adventures and Rebel Assault II.

3. There are how many Indiana Jones videogames?

10. What connects Indiana Jones and The Dig?

11. Which is the odd one out? (CLUE: Nothing to do with licenses, interface, or humour, and has to do with what LucasArts are best
d) Indiana Jones & The Fate of Atlantis
What are LucasArts best at? Connected to the Memorial? Cancelling sequels of course! Loom, Sam & Max and Full Throttle all had direct sequels given the nudge by LEC, whereas Indy is still going and Fate of Atlantis 2 is a fan project!

COMI, in the snake.

16. How many LA Adventures have multiple endings?
d) 3
I'm gonna allow Indy Fate, although I'm gonna have play it again because I just can't think of any when that Sophia dies and the game can carry on. MI1 I don't count, because it's just a bit of fun.
As for the other two, Maniac Mansion and Indy Last Crusade.

17. I can think of several, so here's some all composer based:
- This is the only Monkey Island where Michael Land is not the lead composer.
- Even though the famous trio of Land, Bajakian & McConnell headed up the music, they had actually left LucasArts at this point.
- This was the first time the trio had joined together for an adventure since 1993.

Yeah Iron Phoenix was a direct sequel to FOA and it got much further than any of the Loom sequels.

It was NOT a direct sequel, it was another Indy adventure. Fate of Atlantis 2 is still (supposedly) ongoing. Actually, have they finished that bloody thing yet?

It was just as much of a sequel as Full Throttle 2 or Sam N Max 2, i.e. 'another adventure with the same ker-razy characters'.

Sorry, number 11 was a bad question! The comics one was a goodun, though! I'd never have made that connection! Clever!

Okay, okay, I should've said Zak McKracken. That would've been better.

But considering the same ker-razy characters are just really Indy & Marcus, isn't it just another Indy game? Even Sophia wasn't in it! I mean, it can be called a "sequel" to FoA, but considering it doesn't have anything to do with, say, Atlantis, Sophia, or anything at all in Fate of Atlantis whatsoever and that all anyone really knows about it is that it was cancelled and the story exists in comic form, isn't it just another Indy game?

Or, does everyone have some knowledge about this that I (and apparently Mixnmojo and all the Indy fan sites) don't know?

Any new Indy game will most likely be perceived as a sequel to the previous games in the same way that any new Indy movie is considered a sequel to the previous movies.

So then how is Sam & Max 2 any more related to Hit the Road? The duo is just solving another case, right?

The Tingler

Possibly true, but that's not the point... oh, forget it. Can't be bothered to argue.

Anyone got any more Quite Interesting facts about the music from Escape From Monkey Island?

And everyone have a good Memorial Day?

It's the first and only adventure game by LucasArts where you can play the music directly without extracting it.

ThunderPeel2001

- It had the most amount of music for a LEC adventure game ever created?

Alien426's is fine I think (because he made sure to add "adventure game"), although anyone want to contest ThunderPeel2001's?

Did Grim Fandango or Knights of the Old Republic have more music than EFMI?
