I hope this isn't a repost...

Sakakibara Kikai has pictures and even a movie of their Land Walker robot which appears to work. Powered by a 250cc gas engine and armed with several guns (including 2 that fire Nerf-like balls) it stands at a little over 3 meters. What makes this one interesting is that it is actually armed and it is piloted instead of being an exo-skeleton.

It takes a while, but the links work. That's a pretty cool thing. Imagine driving that to work...

Hmm, working now....

To be honest it isn't all that usefull, it would be dead easy to take oout, just tie up its feet!

Damn cool though! Simalar to the robots from robocop, but you can drive it.

So it begins.

I give them three months before they gain self awareness.

*remembers how the Ewoks defeated the Empire on Endor*

oh to be beaten by furry little *forgets word* critters, when the odds look like they are stacked in your favor....

I give them three months before they gain self awareness. They'll have a gundam before that, and then I'll befriend it and we'll rule the world.

I give them three months before they gain self awareness. I know you're joking cause its just a bunch of gears, wires, motors, levers, and stuff. Not a AI controled robot of mass destruction : D

It reminds me of a chicken walker. Which reminds me of GIR, "It's got chicken legs :D"

Cool :D

It's unimpressive - it just shuffles around. So inefficient.

They were probably just shooting for "well, it looks cool!"

It's the first step towards a working AT-ST. Then a Mech Warrior. Then a Gundam :D

Besides, you're too old, and not angsty enough to pilot an EVA.

I wish all you geeky Gundam gear heads would learn to speak English, so that us older non-gundam/anime geeks could understand what the hell you guys are talking about.

So... Begun, the gundam wars have...

Wow... Me want that when it gets a jetpack and the package includes a small-sized star destroyer to carry it around in outer space...

I'll give 'em 40 years and then we have clone troops and blaster rifles

So much more believable. Battletech is lame. And how do you know what would and wouldn't be possible in the distant future? :P

The usual scientific standard is:

"If it involves midichlorians, phasers or computers with walls of flashing lights then it is unrealistic."
