Given that there are so many KOTOR fans on here I'm surprised no one has posted anything about Jade Empire yet!

Its definately been getting some pretty good reviews:
(IGN: 9.9, Gamezone: 9.8, Yahoo! games: 10)
Current average: 94%, 5th best on xbox

http://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpages2/918890.asp

It looks more action based than KOTOR, but with an even better set of good->bad dialogue options. And has the same writers as the first KOTOR....

I think i may have to grab this one! Anyone tried it yet?

I actually broke down and ordered it last night. I need a new XBox game because Mercenaries is getting old after the third time around.

It certainly looks good.

Hey astro, why don't you ask your friends in asia to get you an Xbox

I does sound awesome, but I really wish that it was more of a Japanese style with samurai and the like. Just a personal preference...

I have a burning desire to own this game, but I just can't afford it until I start my summer job in June....

I'll get it eventually, I guarantee it.

No, because i'm not ranting, merely stating that I will eventually buy it :)

PLUS, it's already out, so I can't change anything. :xp:

Fable sucked from the beginning, so screw it.

Jade Empire will own though, because you can't go wrong with martial arts.

Now to get an xbox....

I am looking forward to getting this game. I have no doubts that BioWare made this game as impressive as KOTOR, a game I thoroughly enjoyed.

What does that have to do with Jade Empire?

Anyways, I really wanna get this game, along with other games like God of War, Ninja Gaiden, etc, but I just don't have the money to buy them all, and the time to play them all. Eventually, once the price drops, I will get Jade Empire!

After reading this review, I'm not so sure about the quality of this game anymore. Sure, it's only one in the middle of a wave of great reviews but it still worries me a bit.

What worries me most is the lenght of the game. Every reviewer states that it took them around 20 hours to finish the game. It would normally take me less time to finish dropping the time to between 15 and 18 hours. For an RPG, that's very short.

I will wait for the PC version cos I don't have an XBOX. And besides, I'm still trying to get KOTOR for PC even though it's 20 bucks... >_>

Just to help you all I am going to have to give you the hard truth. :p

Jade Empire is not coming out for the PC. It is an X-box X-clusive title. Dragon Age on the other hand, is coming out for the PC. It is not a copy of Jade Empire as far as I can tell, but little information has been released besides the fact that it is being developed.

Think yourself lucky you have responsible parents... otherwise you'd be out shooting up schools right now.

YOu know i'm right! :D

ps/ Thats 22 hours with a bare minimum of exploration. KOTOR was supposed to be 30 hours, but it sure took me longer than that the first time.

All games are getting shorter than they used to be, becuse it is so time consuming to make all the graphics. It used to be that allt he levels used the same designs and textures, so making a game longer was easy... now everything uses unique models and textures and games are getting shorter because of it.

Mario's not M. And as we all know the Super Mario series is the best game series EVER along with the Super Star Wars series.

Yeah and the Metroid series, but I mean all new games coeming to x-box that are any good, I can't even play Halo two, OR EVEN HALO ONE!

Jade Empire is awesome.

My only gripe is in combat, when you're a bit of a distance from your enemy, you can't lunge to him ot hop to him or something. Instead, you walk really slowly towards him.

I also think that maybe health or chi should regen slowly out of combat.

Other than that, pretty cool. Got it today and put 5 hours in it so far, and I'm still in Chapter 2.

Hope to try out this game soon...
I view it as KoTOR in Acient China. ;)

Use the Chi, Furious Ming!

I heard that besides a somewhat short game. Also that about half of the game was spent actually fighting and the other half was talking to characters. I love the interaction parts of games like in KotOR, but half the game? That could be a little too long winded for me.

I like balenced out games, all fighting or mostly fighting just gets BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOREING! I just have one question about this game, why is it rated M? Do they curse alot? Is the gore zone in Mortal Kombat reachs? Just why is it rated M?

If 23 hours is short... then our standards sure have increased. I don't know how people say they beat it in 15 hours. unless they're not doing any sidequests and just plow through the game.

Uh... I remember fighting quite a lot in KOTOR... the only difference I see between the two is the real-time combat, which I actually like. Instead of watching, I can control my character.

After completing the game as a follower in the way of the closed fist, I think Jade Empire is one of the best games I've ever played. I can't wait for a Jade Empire 2 or a new RPG from Bioware.

*runs to complete the game following the way of the open palm*

Oh and it could also be rated "M" because of the talks of slave trading, chopping enemies heads off, and other things. Oh and there are topless females, but it's not that big of a deal because they got fur.

Remember kids, guns don't kill people, video games do!

i know it says that it is xbox only but i hope they release it to PC at least next winter because its ovbious, they would win more money too. I'm not that crazy to buy an XBox just to play one game so i hope they do a pc version :(

A PC version will eventually come out, like Fable, and Chronicles of Riddick. All were supposed to be XBOX exclusvie, then a few months after release, they announced a PC version comign out w/ extras.

Ah so they do actually chop peoples heads off? Is it really THAT violent? In a movie I've seen a persons head go lfying off because of a cannon ball, is it just about as bad as that? So are you saying the topless females are animals? Or humans with fur? o_O

To be exact, they're female "spirit foxes." If you've seen Kill Bill (which I doubt) you'd know what happens after your enemies head is chopped off. Also, if you complete a combo, you basically explode them. Frankly, if you're not 18, and your parents are anal about video games, forget about it.

Its based on the same Wuxia-kung fu film influences as kill bill, so its hardly surprising that it's violent.

As for gameplay length, as I understand it it's similar to KOTOR in terms of the amount of content, but they have made the combat faster and taken out a lot of the micromanagement of things like inventories and items. Which is why it plays through quicker.

Personally, with freeform games like Deus Ex, KOTOR, fable etc... I actually prefer it if they aren't too long. Cos I usually want to play through them again in a different way, and i'm not going to do that if it is going to take another 20 or 30 hours. But those games i've listed are about the only ones with any real freedom of plot, so they are about the only ones i'd play through more than once.
