Kinda stupid I feel. Who gives a crap anyway. Don't like something you see on the internet don't go there. Not like it's real life where you can't escape it.

The cybercrime convention constitutes a basis for Canada's law criminalizing racist hatred on the Internet

Oh noes, I've been slurred.

Cotler said international treaties facilitating extradition and prosecution of perpetrators of hate crimes on the Internet are particularly important in the light of Thursday's deadly attacks on public transport in London.

... What the cocks?

As long as they don't start taking people's sigs away because of copywrite infringement.

Cybercrime? What a dumb word.

Aye, where the heck did that come from.

content violations, such as child pornography and racism

What the cocks indeed. How the hell can they put those in anywhere near the same catagory

I pitty da foo' (http://www.uweb.ucsb.edu/~timothy_erskine/mr.t.jpg)

Thats all I gotta say without hurting some big-ass whiners' feelings. They gotta loosen this whole "Terrorism"-thing that's going on.

"Because of the 7.7. attacks on london, we shun j00 n00bs fo' blamin' da other races"
30 minutes later
"We must stop these terrorists at all costs. We must track the arabic people down and slaughter them one by one. That is the only way we can get some peace of terrorism"

Get real...

I've heard news that post 7/7, Mosques and Gurudwaras have been attackes, as I had expected. Every Muslim Londoner becomes a terrorist and racism becomes law.

Sometimes I really wish for a anti-racism superhero...

Super-Black-Man... uh, never mind.

yeah. That is pretty sucky. 2 guys in our town got charged with shouting racial abuse at muslims since the bombs.
muppets.

Canada Sucks...

This thread makes me sad in the pants :(

Indeed, Canada always does something cool then manages to do something that completely destroys said cool.

Anyway, I'd laugh if they went to arrest a person for saying "******" on the internet only to show up and the person is black.

I wonder what they'd do.

But who cares what they say? I mean, unless they're actually planning out criminal acts I fail to see the harm in a bunch of idiots waxing their ethnic-ego.

I'm kind of sick of new laws being made up for already illegal activities preformed on the computer.

If you commit a crime, you are punished. If you use a computer to do so, you are punished times two.

Whatever.

*applauds*

Agreed. Though you could argue i guess that since the web is fairly international that it makes sense for laws in different countries to work together, as often its unclear which would have juristiction.

Of course, not many countries have a "freedom of speech" amendment... so if I post on a US server do i have the US rights, or the UK ones? And if a US citizen posts on a chinese server, does he have US rights or chinese ones?
Gets very confusing...

AFAIK direct racial abuse is a criminal offence in the UK (eg: shouting racial abuse directly at someone), but you are free to talk indirectly (such as on web sites) as long as you aren't specifically inciting people to commit violence or other criminal acts.
I may be wrong though.

No, not really. It's very obvious to me. You are bound by your local laws. It's as simple as that.

If the Chinese don't want Americans spreading dangerous concepts such as the right to free speech and democracy, than all they need to do is not connect to the internet.

They're freaking communist. They can easily shut down infastructure that leads connections to outside of China. At the very least they can filter the majority of it out.

Also, the question of "Do I have US rights or UK rights when posting on a message board?" very clearly demonstrates that in the modern world borders are nothing more than red lines on a map.

There honestly ought not to be any difference between "US rights" and "UK rights".

There is a reason they are called rights. You don't "earn" rights. Not through good behavior, not through economic status, and most certainly not through being a citizen of a country. They are yours. Period.
