Looks cool. Notice how it has stolen bullet time from Max Payne ;)

they put bullet-time in just about every game now. when i was playing this at e3, the exhibitor guy was like "oh, if you press this key, you can go into max-payne style bullet time!"

it was pretty fun to play. i doubt my pc would be able to handle it tho. =(

Wow.Ever since cheap Japanese horror-attempts got popular, little girls are the scariest thing ever, it seams.

Actually it was John Woo... or maybe even someone else before that... :p
(or if you are talking GAMES then i'm pretty sure Requiem: Avenging Angel had it well before Max Payne)

No, its the chicks with their hair over their face that are the scariest thing ever. Sadako from the Ring still scares the pants off me... *shudder*

Let's not get bullet time mixed up with slow motion. >_>

But in the original Max Payne all it was was slow motion. And in the original Matrix it was pretty much just slow motion as well (at least for the iconic scenes of the hall shootout and neo falling backwards).

It wasn't until games like JO all started including the effect that it became some sort of speedup. And fear is doing it in the slow-motion form... just like Requiem and Hardboiled...

Actually, those screenshots kind of remind me of a super-enhanced Requiem... same type of weapon, similar looking soldier/supernatural enemies.
Still, monolith do great, but underrated games... so it should be cool.

Yeah, but i've always used the term "bullet-time" for the method they use in movies for achieving extremely slow motion (or no motion with a panning shot) by setting up regular picture cameras on a track and having them shoot at precise times. Said method was started in 1981, then taken further (and named) in the proccess of making The Matrix. :)

bullet time in the john woo sense, is only the ability for yun-fat chow to spit more rounds out of his twin pistols, perminute, than any other person on the planet. :)

anyway, i always liked monolith games, hopefully this will be good and allow them to develope N.O.L.F. 3 :D

Well, Chow Yun Fat is god. :D

IG: Ok. But by that definition no games have "bullet time". ;)
I first remember seeing that technique in BBC wildlife documentaries a year or two before the Matrix... though i'm sure it existed in some form before then.

NOLF rocked (and NOLF2 simultaneously improved lots of things and ruined others)... but i don't think either sold very well unfortunately. So I'm not holding my breath that they will release another.

Since atleast the 80's, the thing was it was never placed as an exhibit like in the Matrix movies.

I'm looking forward to F.E.A.R.

And I do hope Monolith makes a third NOLF game - even if it's the last to round the series off as a trilogy - because they are great (if under-rated) games.

if you like NOLF you might want to try XIII. It isn't as good, but it has a few similarities and is pretty fun if you don't expect too much.

the best bit is that you can pick up chairs and things and whack people over the head with them. :D

Both got the same humerous overheard conversations though (i love the bits in XII where the guards start singing), and the same annoyingly implemented stealth bits (though i would probably say XII has better stealth mechanics), NOLF had the cool gadgets, XII has the VERY cool way you can pick lots of stuff up and throw it at people, or break it over their heads.

NOLF is definatley better, but NOLF with a few bits of XIII in it would be great.

Monolith make nice engines, but htey never get the hype of Doom/Quake or Unreal engines.. and you almost never see third party games using them... I've always wondered how they make any money... :D

maybe monolith is three friends coding in one of their mothers basements, that way they have a low overhead... :p

Your absolutely right, but it STILL was a different take on game play, and was a HELL of alot of fun in Max Payne. In fact they used it better in Max Payne, then in that stupid Enter The Matrix game. :(

They are making another stupid matrix game where you actually get to play as neo through all three films... but i'm not sure anyone cares about the matrix anymore...do they?

HEHEHE! Matrix Revolutions pretty much killed it for everyone I think. That movie gets worse everytime I watch it.

I've only gotten to the bit where

The helicopter is hovering over you and troops start rappeling down from it, I don't want to go any further. :indif:

Anyways, it's a great game. From what I can tell it already kicks doom 3's ass.

I downloaded it a few days ago but just got time to sit down and try it out a half hour ago. What do ya know? My PC (super fast machine with tons of HD space and RAM and stuff, and after a midrange graphics card upgrade) can't run it. Now I remember why I switched to the XBOX  It does look like an awesome game though. Hate to miss out on it :(

I tried the demo yesterday, but I wasn't very impressed. It looks like just another first person shooter, but with a [trendy] horror feel to it. Sure, the graphics look really good, but you need one hell of a machine, besides, graphics aren't all that important to me, good gameplay is what I look for in a game.

I thought the controls were a little clumsy and unresponsive. I also thought the leaning and aming [down the sights] were very poorly done and felt useless. They added a Max Payne style bullet time which is kinda unoriginal since it's been done so many time now.

The game still has potential though, the enemy AI seems pretty good and, like I said earlier, the graphics look really good. It has some nice lighting effects as well as some very cool particle systems. The bullet time effect look really nice also.

my $0,02

*sigh* You don't need "One hell of a machine to run it" you can make it look like Doom 2 game if you turn the graphics down to the lowest, I have a 9600SE and i can make it run 60+ fps at all times.

What does make it unique as a FPS is the ability to use melee, not just shoot. You can do a roundhouse kick, hit someone with rifle butt, do a running jump kick down on someone, or drop to the ground with knee and outstretched leg to slightly slide across the floor to trip someone. :)

OMGWTF?!?!?! I CANT BELIEVE I WASTED 2 HOURS DOWNLOADING THIS ****!!!!!!

The gameplay is a bit too farcry-ish and I cant even get a decent framerate on auto-detect settings and RUNNING ON AN HEAVYLIY OVERCLOCKED GEFORCE FX 5700 ULTRA WTF!!!!!

Unless this game gets some serious performance fix/patch, i can forget about it and go return to playing Area-51.

Farcry rocks... beats doom 3 anyday. (since i finally got around to buying them.)

A combination of the two would be great.

How does the fighting work in first person, complex controls?

I doubt my dad would ever let me upgrade to a new card. Not for the next 1 year. I think i'll still pass though, since only all the "cool" stuff can be seen when you got a super high end card.
