View Full Version : Hi, I just got an Xbox for passing 8th grade

My parents bought me an xbox for passing 8th grade. In addition, I also got these

four new controllers

live 3 months

all for around 350$ (I think)

My parents have been working very hard..we are a relatively poor family. I passed 8th grade (which was REALLY hard with those big essays and all..i got a C+ which is pretty good since i passed the grade).

My question is, What games do you reccomend that I should purchase?

thanks.

And also, i have a cousin who is addicted to smoking, i think its pot (whatver you call it) and my family (especially my mum) has been very worried about him... im very upset that I myself have to cope with this...Im 14 turning 15 soon and my cousin is 23, he works at a restaurant, though i dont think hes working hard enough.... Sorta off topic, but how would you guys cope with this in my situation? Also, he has a gf now and I kinda know her. They just started dating a few weeks ago and I'm extremely worried about her cause maybe she'll take drugs too and she attends Harvard so the drugs will affect her studies greatly. Her parents are Asian too so if they find out she's been taking drugs, they'll discipline her in a cruel way! If I told her he does drugs, she probably wouldn't believe me. Please help me =(. BTW: My cuz got kicked out of my uncle's place and now he's living with us.

JEEEEESUM CROW that's one heck of a post there ACDC fan...you've got like 42 different things going on at once! I really don't have much advice to offer at the moment...except Halo 2 is a pretty fun game, as is Ninja Gaiden. :)

Tell your cousin to quit smoking >_>

and uh, buy Halo, Ninja Gaiden, Splinter Cell, Jade Empire, any one of those games will provide you with the awesome.

and Welcome to Lucasforums! :)

Yes, ET, the answer is 42. Uh..

Yeah, you should prolly get Halo 2 (and maybe even 1, since I still sorta prefer it even if it has no XBL). You'll have lots of fun online with Halo 2.

Other titles to get:
Mecenaries: Playground of destruction - Uber game, its sorta like GTA but military style.

Fable - Short but I thought it was really fun.

Burnout 3 - An actually fun racing game. The crashes and damage modelling make me happy.

I dunno, theres way more.

I don't even like racing games but this game is a must ****ing have. It's too gawd damned good, and it never gets old. 4 looks promising too. A little less cartoony. Not to say 3 was cartoony...I don't know, 4 just looks more real. A little dirtier and darker. GET BURNOUT 3 IS THE POINT, GODDAMMIT!

Wait wait wait.... your parents spent 350 dollars on you because you passed the EIGTH grade with C'S?!

My parents don't even spend that much on my birthday and I get Bs and As. :p

Yeah, but your parents don't love you.

This is true. :p

But still, 350 dollars for (barely) passing the 8th grade? Maybe if you got C's all the time then got A+'s, but I've never been rewarded for my good grades.

Halo 1 and 2, Burnout 3, Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind Game of the Year Edition, Knights of the Old Republic 1, Jade Empire, Splinter Cell 1, 2(Pandora Tomarrow), and 3(Chaos Theory), Prince of Persia Sands of Time and Warrior Within.

All I can think of right now.

Platinum Hits/$20 games:
Halo (M), Fable (M), Burnout 3, KOTOR, Splinter Cell, Morrowind, Metal Arms: Glitch in the System (hard, rare, and fun), Prince of Persia 1, Soul Calibur 2, Rallisport Challenge 2

More expensive games: Halo 2 (M), Splinter Cell 3 (M) Uhh..., thats what I have had. All good.

I think it's a compliment to the Asians really that they are universally known for efficiency. Whether it be for making sweet electronics, kicking ass in war, or torture even, or brutally beating their kids. You don't hear any black guys complaining about the stereotype that they all have big *****, do you?

[Edit] The new sensor doesn't work so good just yet does it?

Congrats on passing the 8th grade with new x-box to boot. Don't listen to what everyone says - your parents must have thought you deserved it!!!

As for the cousin who is smoking pot. It is great that you are concerned for him. I dont' really think that you should try to intervene with the girlfriend and telling her about the cousin smoking pot. I'm sure she knows - heck that smell is unmistakable. Focus on things that 15 year olds in 9th grade should worry about - not what dumb mistakes your cousin is making - unless it is to learn from it. Just my honest opinion.

Congrats on getting an education.

And what games you get depends on what you like. The Halos are good. The Episode 3 game is fun, but kinda short. I'd try to find a cheap copy pre-owed or something. Like I said, it depends on what you like.

Welcome to the ninth grade. I've completed half of the first term here and today was my last Unit Test exam. Results next month.
You'll want KotOR and it's sequel. Ninja Gaiden and Halo 2 are must buys. And if you can get some money under your parents eyes, you can smuggle a copy of San Andreas.

If there are any second hand came stores around you can pick up a lot of old xbox classics for almost nothing. I got Halo (SP=meh), Deus Ex 2 (not at all bad), Ninja Gaiden all for about £5 (probably $7-10).

If you see it cheap then Deus Ex 2 gives lots of value, as do morrowind and KOTOR 1&2. Ninja Gaiden is impossible but awesome.

Do you want mainly single player games or multiplayer ones?
Any particular genres you like, or do you just want to try something new?

Sands of Time rocks and can also be found cheap now. Crimson Skies used to be very good on Live - if anyone still plays it.
The GTA (3 and Vice City) double pack is very good value. (if you are old enough, don't understand US grades)
SSX3, any tony hawk game, soul calibur or Dead or Alive, any splinter cell game, project gotham 2, etc...

What a silly thing to say. High speed internet barely costs more than dial-up these days. He didn't say they were poverty stricken and barely able to get by.

Well, his boss (I think it's the Supervisor, he's Greek) said that he doesn't take enough responsibility and doesn't take cooking into consideration and acts weird :S. I dunno..hes always in his room doing stuff though, i always smell this insense coming out..and hes always very slow and sleepy. I only heard about pot like 2 months ago, my friends told me its this drug that makes you go slow and stuff.

Sorry if im being weird, but i really want to fix this family and his girlfriend problem...my mum is very upset from this and my dad is always leaving home and drinking alcohol. Im very thankful that they bought me an xbox, but i want to make their lives a little more happier.... . My parents have spoken to my cousin's co-workers and they said that his skill has fallen by 20%..though hes still doing average in his shifts. My cousin used to help do my maths homework..last year but at the end of last year he got addicted to some drugs and now..i dont know what to do about it ...and im doing all i can to help this problem with my Cuz and parents...As well, His girlfriend doesn't know that he's a druggie, so I'm a bit worried about that fact. He might pressure her to take it, too, then her marks will fail miserabally. If you guys can help me out in any way you can, then I'd appreciate it very much.

coupes.
08-17-2005, 11:25 PM
Really, I'm afraid there isn't much you can do to really help him unless he wants to be helped. You can try to talk to him about it, tell him how it makes you feel so he knows he isn't only hurting himself, etc. I can't say I have lived a situation like yours, so I don't have much more advice for you, but you should remain strong and keep sending love his way ;)

Jeff
08-17-2005, 11:33 PM
For the drug problem, you could always try an intervention. Invite all his friends (assuming they don't do drugs...) to your house, and when he arrives, you all can try to talk him out of doing the drugs. It may sound silly, and yes I got that from an episode of Seinfeld, but it still may work.

Either that, or at least get your parents to talk to him. He definately needs help.

And congrats on getting the xbox.

Do people in the US really do "interventions"??? I thought it was just in tv series... I don't think the concept would work in the UK. (though these days they would probably end up on some talk show or reality show... very un-british.)

One of the unfortunate side effects of being 14 is that 23 year olds tend not to listen to you, so i suspect there is nothing you will be able to do to change things.
You could try to get him to do stuff with you, as pot isn't physically adictive... it just becomes a habit... so maybe if you can get him interesting in other things he might tone it down to a more reasonable level.

I can't give away my copy of Jade empire here in my town and Ninja Gaiden is getting re released for like 30 bucks you get the original and extra content, It's called Ninja Gaiden Black. Half Life 2 is coming out, Doom 3 is fun but once you lose all your Items it's kinda annoying. Congrats on passing the eighth Grade, I'm startin Highschool in like a week.

Not sure Ninja Gaiden Black is worth it... you'd have to be a pretty diehard fan, loaded or a Ninja Dog to want to spend $30 whyen you can get he old one cheap, plus download both hurricane packs free.

Is it worth getting Halo AND Halo 2???
the single player in halo is pants, and i heard halo 2 SP isn't nuch better... and if you are going to multiplay them on live then you really don't need both.

That's the thing. We don't care, honestly. Race, skin color, none of that matters, and when you tell you're story you keep incluiding side notes about the person's heritage. Just tell the important parts, don't throw race into the subject, it's not important.
