One of the last movies I got at my last job was Clerks and I absolutely loved it. One of the first movies I got at my new job was Mallrats and I absolutely loved that. I figure I might as well watch the other films Kevin Smith has done. What do you think are his best ones and the worst? Just curious to see what I can expect.

I even had him as my avatar/signature. He was just that awesome.

No pleasure, no rapture, no exquisite sin greater... than Central Air.

Mallrats and Jay & Silent Bob are my faves. Although Clerks and Dogma are quality, too :)

Chasing Amy would be a lot better if it didn't get so whiney. :( The first 20 minutes are brilliant.

Haven't bothered watching Jersey Girl yet...

Funny you'd make a thread about that, I've just recently really gotten into his movies... :D

1. Clerks
2. Dogma
3. Mallrats
4. Jay And Silent Bob Strikes Back

Haven't seen Chasing Amy yet, and I'm not planning on seeing Jersey Girl, on advice from my buddy Astro. :p

Also, I wonder if Passion Of The Clerks will actually come out in 2006...

I didn't plan on seeing Jersey Girl. Looked nothing like any of his other films. It's odd you all say Chasing Amy is your least fav because over at Rotten Tomatoes, that's the highest rated one :p

Chasing Amy and Dogma are my favourites, even though I utterly despise Ben Affleck with a mighty passionate fury.

As a writer's movie, Chasing Amy's definitely got the most to say; More than just a collection of knob gags (albeit brilliant ones). It just gets too heavy and too damned... whiney

Bless 'em...

That's odd. I do too. Why is that? I usually avoid stuff with him in it, but these films are too damned funny to put off watching any longer :p

Yeah, me three. What's up with that? So many people seem to despise Afleck and yet he's still famous and still makes millions of dollars. :firemad: Go figure. *shrugs* Anyway, Mallrats is brilliant but Dogma will always be my fav (probably because I agree with most of what he's saying in that movie. LOL) I command thee: Go watch it now! :D

Jersey Girl's a ****ing funny movie. The only reason it didn't get good press was because it came on the heals of Gigli. That and it's uber trendy to not like Ben Affleck. Don't believe the hype. Give it a chance. Then if you don't like it, you'll at least have an informed opinion. I thought it was pretty funny though.

Jersey Girl's a ****ing funny movie....

yeah, its worth a watch if you have a ladyfriend with you. While she's watching the little girl and saying how cute she is, you can put on the moves. Still, it is a family movie, which the others arent...not that that's bad, but family movies arent always stomachable :p Satan's Little helper, now that looks like a cool family movie !!!

 @ astro

Today some guy came into work looking for Mallrats which I had just returned. He asked me what other movies he directed so I showed off my knowledge like I actually knew what I was talking about. I told him to take Clerks and Mallrats just so I will be able to get the last three no problem :p

No late fees at Blockbuster = nothing ever on the shelf to rent

1. Clerks - Awesome film
2. Chasing Amy - I really like this film. It has a plot and is a bit more serious than his other ones. Ending was a bit annoying though (as was affleck's goatee).
3. Dogma - Great, funny, flawed, too much chris rock.
4. Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back - Excellent, but full of in-jokes that would mean nothing to those that hadn't seent he other films. Made me want to marry Shannon E.
5. Clerks Animated Series - rocks, but too short.
6. Mallrats - Most flawed of all his films... even he admits that. Pretty funny in places though ("fly! fat man! Fly!") and worth it for JLA getting her kit off...

Haven't seen jersey girl. I heard it was a hell of a lot better than gigli though, and they should have released it first.

The weird thing about affleck is he can actually be really good (Good Will hunting, any Smith film, etc..) but he can also be so god-awful you want to reach into the screen and throttle him. I don't think he comes across as having much depth unless he's had a really good part written for him. Otherwise he just comes across as all chisseled chin and nothing else.

Can't believe I forgot that! It's sitting right behind me with my other dvd's too :p
I love it, but I rarely watch it as I'm the only person I know who actually does like it.

Looks like it's just me and you Toms :p

I saw Chasing Amy last night. I thought it was a great movie, but it wasn't funny. Blackout's description is perfect. The first 20 minutes were hilarious. There were a few other funny bits here and there, but it was to whiney :p

I've never met a single person that has seen the animated series that didn't like it. Ever.

I wish he'd make more eps. :(

too much chris rock.

... That's like saying there's too much Natalie Portman in Leon. You usually see a lot of your main characters, it's only natural.

Besides, Chris Rock wasn't bad in Dogma. Although I could've done without seeing his ass.

I liked that movie too. It was a cute story, but it was still pretty funny, with George Carlin and all

^Don't know why's that's a spoiler but.

Anyway, I haven't seen Mallrats, Jay and bob strike back, or Chasing Amy, but so far my personal favorite is Dogma, followed by Clerks, followed by the animated series.

Jersey Girl I actually saw without knowing before hand it was a Kevin Smith film, and I thought it was pretty funny. I mean, it's really different than the other films, but it should be obvious the moment you see that A. It's a family film, B. It doesn't have Jay and Silent Bob.

He seems like an awesome guy.

I mean, sure, sometimes he can get annoying, but I love his comedy. Makes me laugh. :)

He is.

What's cool is he realizes it. Few people realize just how annoying they can get sometimes.

I love his comedy. Makes me laugh. :)
Indeed, and unless he's doing a TV presentation or something and the stage producers tell him they want a certain style, the guy never does the same style act.

I'm gonna have to agree with everything you said. Mallrats and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back were my favs, and I do like Clerks and Dogma. I just don't think I laughed out loud as often during those. And Chasing Amy, while a great movie, isn't really too funny.
