View Full Version : Mod idea - connect 1 and 2 plotlines

My biggest complaint with TSL is that it felt unfinished, the story sort of died at the end. And all that talk of Revan went nowhere. 2 had a lot cooler features (like influence), but 1 had a better plot. I'd like to see more of the plot from 1 brought into 2 (and maybe vice verse?). You can just hard code a story into the mod, but the whole point of playing a game is that the player determines how the story goes (at least a game like this). So what I was thinking is bringing in information from the game 1 saves into TSL.

What I'm thinking is doing a couple things. First, replacing the Atton conversation for determining the info about Revan, with info from your 1 saves. The other thing is to use your Revan model from 1 as the Revan model in 2. (The "unmasked" Revan). Also, bringing in the info about your choices from the end of the game (ie party members, d/l choice, etc.).

My thought is that after the final battle, you'd continue on and Revan and the old gang would come into play.

I seriously doubt there's any sort of way to connect the two within the game. So what I'm thinking is that this would require an installer, which would be able to read a chosen save file, and extract the required globals, as well as picking the appropriate models from the Kotor1 files or the 1 overrides. (Actually, if the information we need is cached in the save, we should be able to pull it out of there).

What's the feasibility of doing something like this? Obviously we're able to access all that information using existing tools, so would this information (mainly the mdl's) transfer directly into TSL? Or is it something that can be converted automatically?

I'd especially like to get the input of the people who created all those tools that we use to do the mods in the first place, to see what they think about how feasible this would be.

Sorry to burst your bubble BUT unless the KOTOR I content is already in the TSL directory structure's files it is NOT allowed to be added or "ported" ;)

Highly illegal stuff there, etc.

The only way you'd be able to get around it is IF you'd do a "redo" of HanHarr and make him look like Zaalbar. :D

Actually porting them in from one game to another is illegal though and we're not supposed to even give out info on how to do it really ;)

Sounds like a good idea though and I'd personally like to see a realistic looking Juhani as a party selection option on Dantoonie as well in TSL. :D Sorta one of those "After Revan left I just came back here sorta thing" :D

I can see how that would have issues. I would assume though that you can use anything you find within the TSL files. Since there's a model of Bastila in TSL, then that means you can use her, right? That would explain other mods I've seen where she's in TSL.

Mission's a Twi'lik, so you could just use a blue painted Twi'lik model. and like you said, you can always recolor whosy wookie and turn him into whatsit (I have a hard enough time spelling real words - not even going to try those names).

That leaves Carth, Jolee, Candarous, and Juhani. I assume that since their uti files and 2da settings still exist, it's ok to use them in the game. That leaves finding a model and creating a texture. I heard a spoiler that a certain other character shows up in here, I think. The mandalorian could be given his armor back to look like all the rest. And there were a number of characters that could be touched up to look like Jolee (but why bother, didn't like him).

Which just leaves Juhani. Persoanlly, although I liked her, I think she could use a makeover anyway. Other than some subtly pointed ears, she didn't really look all that feline. I'm thinking about redoing her anyway. Which brings up a question, is it possible to convert a Poser file to KOTOR format?

Anyway, a little creative writing, and vwala, you've just explained why they don't look quite the same. Or, better yet, leave them out (sorry, I like Juhani too).

It would have been nice to use the player models from 1, but Revan liked that mask anyway, so last obsticle down. Do this whole Darth Vader thing where you only see Revan unmasked from a different angle.

While the model idea might be out, you could still take the global info from 1 saves and bring them into 2, which is a big part of the idea.

As far Juhani goes, there are no models for her in TSL, you could use Carth, Bastila, blue painted Twilek for Mission and a re-touched pc for Jolee though, like you mentioned...

You could maybe render a transition movie from K1 to K2, but interlinking the two are anywhere between near impossible and impossible, both technically and legally (I think).
