I'm an aspiring musician interested in doing some amatuer recording. Considering the amount of traffic these boards get I can only assume someone on here must share my interest and, perhaps, provide me with some help. What I'm looking for is multi-track music recording software (Windows XP compatible) that is affordable and doesn't require any additional equipment. I'm also interested in knowing if there is a GIMP-like program (a.k.a. recording software that is semi-professional and freely distributed like GIMP). I'm not sure if such a thing exists or if there is an affordable program out there that can handle multi-track recording, mixing, etc. but any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I went through the same grief a while back when I decided to start trying to record through my pc. I had little to no luck. Lemme know what you run accross.

Audacity - Kid Tested, Professional Approved. (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/)

Handles all of your requirements, and is free on top of it.
