Haha I feel welcomed :D

Yes I did make them. It takes a lot of practice and just fooling around basically.

A picture thread is specifically a thread devoted to actual pictures of people normally.

Those are pretty good. I can think of one person around here who can use terragen good, and that's GothiX. He hasn't been on in a few days though.

I actually never heard of Terragen, I'll have to check it out ;)

MrWally

You definately should

It's hard and kinda confusing at first, but once you get used to it just let your imagination carry you. And there are probably tutorials somewhere online, but I dunno.

Yeah, Gothix is incredible with digital art. Absolutely everyone should check out his DeviantArt page here (http://tinyurl.com/9nkhs). He rocks. And there's been some crap with his old member name so his stuff's been moved to his new one (http://tinyurl.com/9nkhs). Check it out. :)

As for you, MrWally: Nice Terragen, and welcome to the boards. Have a good time and don't act like a newb, for you will suffer the consequenses. :p

I don't do any Terragen and the like but I do very much enjoy my digital camera. :D

I'm a beginner. I lost a lot of good images I had made in a recent format. This was one that I had on a CD I wrote.

Is Terragen just a terrain generator, or can you place other objects in the scenes? I mean, while some of those pics look nice, they're mostly very similar and a tad boring because there is no key focus for the attention.

At least with something like Bryce, for example, you could make some terrain and place other objects in the scene to give it more interest.

MrWally

It basically generates it but the tricky part is getting a unique feel to it. You create a terrain map, a cloud layer, the atmosphere light, the atmosphere effects and a water layer and baiscally just fool around with it.

Personally I have a thing for sunsets and I try to make everyone of my pictures using unique colors and angles. This probably comes from constant rubbing off from my father, who's a photographer.

Oh, and I've only been doing terragen for a couple of months.

Lol... 3rd time i've edited this post.... I checked out Gothix site and I noticed he uses World Machine as well as terragen. And he uses photoshop 7. I personally use pure terragen, but i'll be sure to check those out!

I've made a lot of em actually... my web is sorta slow (dial up) and its been raining, for some reason its even slower than usual...

They make good skyboxes for video games :D

D= I am confused as hell with this thing..

MrWally
10-24-2005, 11:27 PM
Does that mean you actually downloaded it MarcusLeCoy?

First off you might want to look for a tutorial online, or mess with presets, but DON'T GIVE UP. Personally I just fooled around for like a week and eventually got the hang of it, so you don't need a tutorial.

They can, however, be very helpful.

When I took my one-year High School Photoshop course in Houston, it was all tutorials, with hand-holding from the teacher. I still learned Photoshop quite well (although most is temporarily forgotten now as I don't have Photoshop at home).

The problem with tutorials, though, is that they are very linear and not at all open-ended. So I advice you follow some tutorials and spend the rest of the time experimenting and exploring.

Roger that. I'll try figuring this stuff out tomorrow.

Haha, yes, I completely agree in the case of photoshop, which is much more confusing than terragen (My family owns everysingle version from PS2).

I tried out that World Machine and it's pretty cool, but kinda confusing. If anyone here knows how to use it wanna give some pointers? :D

Here... a tutorial... it teaches you how to make skyboxes for JKA/JK2... but don't worry about that, it mainly focuses on the program. Just skip the stuff thats for JKA. Also, you don't have to take 6 renders, thats only if your making a skybox... just read over the settings and play with the program. :D

EDIT: This tutorial isn't what you described above. Wedge just teaches you about the settings, tells what they are for and what can be done with them... other than that you do what you want to do.

Maybe it's just me... but the picture that he uses in his example (on the tutorial) looks kinda odd.... I mean the tutorial is really helpful but the grass and pretty much all the color is WAY to bright and over-saturated.

manoman81
10-26-2005, 03:38 PM
Yeah, I think the grass is a bit much. But I also think the sky color makes it look even more....green. And not pretty...

It's been a while for terragen. It's a great program to mess with.

I just came across this site for tutorials. Some seem pretty cool. http://www.basinski-net.de/tutorials/tutorials.htm

shukrallah

Yeah... well.. whatever. Its not about his picture, its about his tutorial. Like I said, it gets the job done.

Besides, if thats how you want it to look then its cool. I made the sky really weird colors before for an "alien planet"

Sorry, shukrallah. Didn't mean to offend you. I think the colors just kind of clash against each other. Did you put the level on the web somewhere? I'd like to give it a go in JA.

hahaha no. PhotoShop 2. That's what I call it. And although photoshop is easy, the "average" user only uses less than 10% of it (that's what my father says... he teaches a college class on photo editing). In fact the video tutorial for photoshop is over 20 hours long O.O

I wasn't offended, its not even my tutorial. I've made a few levels, one of them had a terragen skybox (imperial storage facility for JKA) but I added a cloud layer (a lot of moving clouds in the game engine) so you can't really see the skybox well. Plus the skybox wasn't too good. The level was decent, nothing special.

Whoa, sorta surprised about the 10% thing. Hmm... I use GIMP because its free. PS costs too much money. I thought about buying PS Elements once for $50... but never got to it :-\ Oh well.

wow, cuz i use photoshop like everyday and use like 80% of it...

i heard about those videos being 20 hours long...who would ever watch that? easier to teach urself...

Well you don't watch them straight through (unless you're REALLY bored) what you use them for is taking segments and using them in a class or showing them to your friends.

And you say you use photoshop everday, do you do photoediting? Graphic Design? Do you use it for your job? And are you sure you use 80% cause I used to think I knew a lot about photoshop... now I know how ignorant I used to be lol.

MTV2
10-29-2005, 06:00 PM
i use it for graphic design, chopping cars, etc. 80% may be a bit exagerated but i do use alot of it. basically everything on the toolbar and majority of the filters, adjustments, all the layer styles, etc.
