from superhero hype (http://superherohype.com/news/spider-mannews.php?id=3605)

Sony Pictures has revealed a first look at a villain, played by Thomas Haden Church, from the highly-anticipated Spider-Man 3 at the film's official website. The studio is keeping the villain's name under wraps (though the Flint Marko name and clothes should give it away!) and you can talk about the new photo on the message boards!

Spider-Man 3, directed by Sam Raimi and produced by Laura Ziskin and Marvel Studios' Avi Arad, swings into theaters on May 4, 2007. Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst and James Franco are joined by Church and Topher Grace in the third installment of the blockbuster franchise.

The "Spider-Man" film franchise has grossed more than $1.5 billion in worldwide ticket sales to date. Production on the third film, which was written by Alvin Sargent, is scheduled to begin early next year.

Are you sure? The guy in your pic seems a little more plastic-covered. :p
I think we already heard Sandman was in it, from the thread about Kirsten "Dunce" accidentally revealing a few things about the upcoming movie.

You know it'd be funny if he ended up being a cameo appearance, like Jubilee and Beast in X2.

:p

But that is cool. I don't know too much about Sandman; I'll wait for the movie to tell me.

sweet, he beefed up for the role a bit :o

Sandman's a decent Spidey villain I think, if a little un-exciting. The special effects should be great.

Mike Windu

I think it'd look better if he didn't tuck in, but rather had a small t shirt to show off more muscle.

You are all heatens. He looks perfect for the role.

What's he do? :p
Think body out of sand, which he can manipulate in any way he want to. He can f.ex. spread out so that he avoid punches, or make himself stone hard when it is his turn to punch. He's way stronger than Spider-Man, so he always have to rely on his thinker when fighting him.

And I had been waiting so long for Venom to show up...

The Rock should have been given this role

Sorry, but I can't smell that. hehe

I think he looks great. I can't wait to see the SFX!

I really don't know too much about him, either. I guess I won't be able to say that for much longer.

I guess that'd be nice...
Heh...
...
You have to burn him...
So he'll turn into glass man...
Then you can just shoot him.
Voilá!
Instant shattered sand man!
Well, i guess it'll be nice.

When we get Venom i shall be happy, instead of the little bit of bait we got, with JJ shouting at eddie brook to get out of his office.

Still i look foreward to it.

Oh for christ sake... The Rock should be playing Venom. He has the muscle needed for the part. What does this fragile whimp have that The Rock doesn't? Except for the blonde, flat hair (http://www.drstrange.nl/marvelmagic/cards/Eddie%20Brock.jpg) that's needed for the part...

Psst, Venom has been confirmed a long time ago when Dunst blurted it out at a press conference...

Also, I prefer someone who can act in my movies, but that's just me. :)

Venom is a much better villain anyway, he's more of a character than Sandman.

if you remember christian bale before batman begins, he was pretty scrawny. same with tobey before spider-man, but tehy were able to beef up for their roles. who's to say topher wont as well?

shukrallah
11-06-2005, 08:26 PM
Yeah, but venom is huge. I still think Toby is too small for spiderman... sorta... he makes a good peter parker, but not hes not as tough and smart mouthed enough for spidey. As for venom, the rock would have been great... I mean crap... venom was giant...

Mike Windu
11-06-2005, 09:07 PM
Except the Rock isn't that great of an actor.

He's funny; but he wouldn't be a good fit for Venom even though he's muscular. We need someone more broadchested who can still act.

I want to see Harry take up the green goblin :(

However if they do that, I don't want to see a repeat of spiderman 1's green goblin, they would have to work to make it good.

shukrallah
11-06-2005, 11:05 PM
Yeah, spiderman 2 left you hanging with Harry. Its strange, he finds that costume and all green goblin stuff, and then is seen shortly after at a wedding, looking like nothing ever happend... :-\

Mike Windu

The Goblin takes time to break people down psychologically. It's part of his character.

El Sitherino

Eddie Brock was a skinny **** before he became Venom though, therefore Topher is a great cast. And if you guys have seen him lately, he's bulking up quite a bit.

Bob Lion54

I would think most of the Venom scenes would be CGI anyways. Practical effects can only go so far. Anyone seen Mr. Hyde in League of Extraordinary Gentlemen?

I have to admit, I like practial effects whenever possible, but you can just tell its a guy in a rubber suit. GC still looks computer generated, but most of the time it just looks better. (Yoda from the Prequels v. Yoda from the OT, for example)

If they did try to do Venom as a practical effect, they would probably use a stuntman anyway. You also have to think about Venoms face. I don't see that being done without CG.

Crow_Nest

Hmmm....

The comic books might say something about this new villian. Always has to be some ordinary guy who turned bad because of something/experiment?

toms
11-07-2005, 08:14 AM
Yeah, they need some sort of safety suits or something when they are doing their scientific experiments alright...

After a quick bit of research its interestng that both these potential villains seem to have tried to be good for at least part of their existance... they could do something interesting with that bit of plot.

I'd also assume that Venom will be all CGI, spidey is pretty much all CGi anyway.

I thought harry became hobgobiln, not green goblin?

Eddie brock starts out as a scrawny git. He pumped up so much cause of his hate of ol' spidey.

And with the ammount of CGI for SM (as a charcter) alone, i reckon Venom is going to be min 90% CGI. but i faith they can do it well

El Sitherino

Exactly.

Anyway, they'll probably have Topher in the hero suit in your interactive shots, and your action shots they'll do CGI. Just like they do with Tobey as spiderman.

Anyone have any idea how many spider-man movies there are going to be? They obviously aren't going to do a trilogy, as a friend of mine claimed.

And why are people still argueing about The Rock playing Venom? They already announced Topher Grace has the part.

Lightsaberboy
11-07-2005, 07:07 PM
i think the main cast such as tobey has stated that they only want to do up to 3 movies. but who knows how many movies there will actually be...

El Sitherino
11-07-2005, 07:12 PM
Well recently he said he'd like to do more, Raimi only had them sign on for 3 as that's the only amount he wanted to do at first. The way things are going, they're likely to make more with Raimi still on board with Tobey. Dunst however didn't even want to do after the first one but was contractually obligated to do the second and third.

acdcfanbill
11-07-2005, 09:34 PM
Dunst is the worst thing about the series imho, and while i normally detest actor changes of main characters in movie series, i could live with them changing out her.

shukrallah
11-07-2005, 09:47 PM
Yeah... I don't like her. And what was up with her hair in the 2nd movie? It wasn't red... like in the first one, it was mixed.

Umm... I think the green goblin or venom kills MJ anyways, so this may be it for her. Then they can bring in one of Peter's other "loves" from the comics.

El Sitherino
11-07-2005, 11:55 PM
Now the question would be which one.

Mike Windu

VENOM > ALL that is all u need to know unless CARNAGE is involved which wont be untill this sequel is out. thomas hayden = gud sandman = NUB dont matter they need the symbiotes to make the movie go where they need to go... and no way in hell they gonna pull that post-secret wars bs with armstrong coming down from space with the symbiote plus the nOObman ( i mean sandman)... so wtf/e......... it is lead to disaster just like every other sequel out on the market... less thinking more marketing is what drives the bull****......... and fanboys...

Well it ain't going to be the green goblin, being dead in the films and all (he didn't come back in the second one did he? I havn't sen that yet).

I heard they ar going to do 5 in all. but more likely it will be an ongoing thing with many diferent spidermans, like batman.

And getting worse all the time, like batman, superman, etc..

They always seemed to be setting up for Harry to turn into some form of goblinoid super villain in the third one, but with SM and VNM in S3 it seems unlikely it will be in this film. Guess it might be the fourth.

But its never a good idea to plan that far ahead in movies, as actors & directors leave, etc..

PS/ Anyone hear that they are probably releasing the Richard Donner Cut of Superman 2 on DVD next year? Hope it actually happens, unlike the supposed recut of Batman forever...

shukrallah

Spiderman 2 was better than the first one in my opinion.

She said in an interview that she was given more freedom in the second movie, and so she chose to have a different hair color.

Big mistake, MJ was always known as the red head... not the carrot top. Thats almost as bad as changing the blue on spidey to black or something... its just not right.

Well the fans have wanted Venom straight from the get go, Spiderman 1. Then in Spidey 2 they wanted him again, and now they finally get him.

I'm afraid you misunderstood him. He was saying it would suck to have the costume suddenly be red+black instead of red+blue. The symbiote (black) costume is supposed to be black, so he doesn't mind it.

Actually, some Spiderman drawers actually colour the blue as actually black or extremely dark blue. I myself don't like those cartoons because they spoil the whole Spiderman with those humongous eyes they draw on him. It's just... Awful...

Ah true. There was one that was black and red however, but I can't seem to remember which series. I'm pretty sure it might have been one of the alternate universes though or maybe one of the Ultimate Spiderman's.
