It's almost here! (14th for the US, 17th for Australia), Mario Kart DS is about to be released. I so cannot wait for this game, it's gonna be so much fun!
So who's gettin Mario Kart DS?

11-07-2005, 09:13 AM
I am! I loved the original on SNES and the 64 version. They're the only two I've played.

Mario 64 is the only DS game I have. The rest are GBA games.... I also can't wait for the next Mario Bros game on the DS. First side scroller since Super Mario World :D

I can't wait to see all the different Karts you're able to choose from :D I hope Yoshi has some good choices cause I always used to choose him in Mario Kart 64.

I can't wait, gonna buy it the first day, as well as the rest of my family.

And isn't it the first game to support WiFi?

Along with Tony Hawk and Animal Crossing, then later comes Metroid Prime Hunters

Damnit Lynk, I'm too poor to get a DS now.

Daisy, Waluigi, Dry Bones and R.O.B the Robot (remember him? XD) are all unlockable characters in the game. And it looks like each character gets at least 7 different Karts with different stats... and it looks like R.O.B can play as any Kart.

11-07-2005, 07:36 PM
OMG R.O.B.?!

And I'm definately getting this.

Yeah he was, R.O.B 64, but by name only cause it didn't really look like the real life version.

Personally, I can't wait for this, but I also can't wait for Tony Hawk, I love the console games, and it's being done by the same teams that did an amazing job with the games on Advance.

DS WiFi = Pwnage

Mario Kart DS, Animal Crossing DS, Metroid Prime Hunters FTW! But that's not all, I mean coming soon are a bunch of RPGs, from Final Fantasy to XenoSaga, Children of Mana, Ash and more. Then the NEW Super Mario Bros. But the biggest day I think will be when the new Pokemon games are released.

But in the meantime, man it's gonna be so great when Mario Kart comes out, I'm so glad Block Fort made it into the battle mode, that level is so cool XD. There's also another battle mode level called "Nintendo DS" where it's just a BIG Nintendo DS you all race on, and when you're on the touch screen it leaves a black track behind you and when you pause the game the camera zooms out and you can see all the touch marks made by all the Karts lol.

11-09-2005, 09:21 AM
The game that would make me race from my computer straight to a games shop to buy a DS would be chrono trigger. How come all the other RPGs get re-released and not the best one????? :(

I've asked myself that same question many, many times.

I'l most likely break down and buy a DS after the new Mario game comes out.

11-09-2005, 08:42 PM
I think we should have a mario kard ds tournament after enough people get it.

How is the wifi going to work? Are the games going to enable it? Will the games update the ds's firmware or is it just on the game?

11-09-2005, 09:19 PM
This game has made me want to buy a DS. I definitely can't afford a new one right now, so I asked my friend if I could buy his. At first he said yeah, he doesn't use it, and he only wanted $30, but then he realized how good this game was when I mentioned it and now he wants to keep it to get this game :( So I may look for one on eBay or something to get a cheap one that still works OK.

This is how it works, basically when you get Mario Kart DS you register it and you get sent a 12 digit "Friends code" this is unique to your copy of Mario Kart DS online, if you want to verse friends over the net you give your friends code to the person you want to verse and they give theirs to you and you enter it into your friends list and boom, you have a direct connection to eachother, all you need to do is be online at the same time to play eachother. However if you have Animal Crossing, you will have to register and get a different code for Animal Crossing.

There is an option to play against random people though, the good thing about it is that it select ANYONE who is online who is of your skill level, so you won't keep on competing against people who will kick your ass and keep screwin up your stats.

It sound tedious and wierd but this is Nintendo's measure to protect a lot of its audience from the bad things that occur with online gaming and to make it a lot more friendlier environment.

I have a DS, so does Sithy (let's pretend lol), I have MKDS and so does he, we both have a friends code each and we tell each other our codes and input them into our MKDS games. And now BongoBob wants to play us, so we get his friends code and now he's in.

There's a maximum of 4 players to an online game, but for a LAN game it's 8.

Oh dude, I just saw a commercial for Nintendo WiFi.

It was 2 ninjas facing off and the 2nd one stops and says "Wow, you'd totally kill me. Do you have anyone else I can fight?" or something to that effect. The first ninja points over to some fat ninja eating a donut. XD

I'm still thinking of adding a DS to my XMAS list.
Though the fact it doesn't support WPA basically means the wireless is nearly useless to me. The network in the place I live is WPA protected, and I'm not the one in charge of it so i can't just reduce it to WEP (even if i wanted to).

Darn it...

The SNES game ruled, plain and simple. Two-player kart duelling with assorted weaponry was the greatest thing:D! Never played the 64 version, though, or any other version.

The 64 version is the best IMO. Double Dash controls are too loose.

Fun to mess around with when with friends though.

Aye, Mario Kart 64 was the best and what this game is based off of. It had THE best gameplay.

@ toms: Bleah... maybe you could by the Nintendo wireless adapter as another access point just for the DS (and Revolution).

11-10-2005, 08:40 AM
Wireless networking is the spawn of the devil. :(

As i understand it the DS itself already supports wireless-b networking. So it should already work with most routers and wireless hotspots. So you don't need to buy the adapter - its just for people who haven't wirelessed their pc yet. (correct?)

I already have a WPA usb adapter in the back of my PC that connects to the router downstairs. If i stuch another USB wireless adapter in the back of my PC (the nintendo one or otherwise) would I be able to have WEP on the DS->PC bit and WPA on the PC->Router bit?
Would XP throw a fit if it had to cope with tow different adapters with two different drivers and two different security policies? I had enough toruble getting just one to work. (had to send back 2 different PCI adapters before i got a USB one that worked).

11-10-2005, 10:31 AM
Yes! I found a DS on Ebay for only $27, and it includes Super Mario 64. There were a couple other ones around $25-30, and they all had around a day left to bid. If the price doesn't go too high, hopefully around $50 at the highest, I'll definitely get one. Hopefully one of them won't shoot up too much...

64 version is the bestI second that, although I do not know the DS version.

I also liked Diddy Kong Racing a lot, which is kind of similar to MK but much much harder to beat. I remember beatin' Wizpig the first time in a 2 hour session, just to find myself in space and after beating him the second time I nearly cried because the end was not even near .. it was most funful.

But Mario Kart is of course the must MP game of both.

11-11-2005, 01:29 AM
I'm asking for this on my Birthday. Let's exchange friend codes okay guys?

Lynk Former

Don't get overexcited with MKDS's online play though, it's said to be adequate but not "OMFG THAT IS SO COOL!"

I'm getting very tempted. And if I can pick one up with a movie player and cf card on ebay then I might be even more tempted. I do wiish they'd made it look a bit cooler though, cos i just saw my first GB Micro in the wild and that looks soo much cooler..

Nintendo will one day release a redesigned DS.

And that day will be: (dramatic pause) the day after I break down and buy one.

I'm SOOOOO close to putting one on my xmas list, but since they said they were thinking of releasing a redesigned one I don't know what to do. Thye should bring it out pretty quick to cash in on xmas...

MKDS is a double edged sword right now.

My little brother is obsessed with it, but he can't beat the chalenges and so now 11 kinds of hell have been raised :(

Think I could get an insanity bargain?

I'm trying to figure out which Kart is best to use in 100cc right now... and I need to relearn how to powerslide seeing as the mechanics of it are very different from MK64... and I also need to figure out exactly when to floor it at the start to get a start-boost... I can do it half the time but that's just not good enough when I could do it 100% of the time in MK64.

11-18-2005, 06:10 PM
To get the boost - start reving when you see the 2 and then floor it as it almost fades out. That's how I do it. Although I can't always do it 100% of the time. I got my wi-fi to work. If some lucasforumers want to share friend codes let me know. We can PM them or whatever.

11-18-2005, 06:13 PM
Oh and BTW everyone. This is the best game I've played on the DS. I'm loving it. It's a heck of a lot of fun. I love that you can play different people online etc. If you want something this Christmas ask for it. Or wait till day after thanksgiving and get it from Target at the low price of $28 bucks. Yup that's a Turkey Day secret from me to you.

Lynk Former
11-18-2005, 07:11 PM
XD I figured out a lot of the finer details just after I posted that last post lol. I don't have any money available to get a wireless router or Nintendo's WiFi Connector so it may take me awhile to get online, hopefully in two or three weeks I can.

So how is everyone progressing? So far I've finished 50cc, 100cc, 150cc and 150cc Mirror mode. I've unlocked all characters and karts, finished all missions from lv1 to lv6. All I have to do now is unlock lv7, get triple stars on everything and do the Time Trails. I've already done 1 of the time trails and have beaten the Staff ghost on the Figure 8 course.

11-19-2005, 04:48 AM
I've just started 150cc and have decided I'm alot better at this than Double Dash :D

Lynk Former
11-19-2005, 07:18 PM

11-28-2005, 11:30 AM

My mom is hoping to buy the wifi adapter this week. If you have friends codes already, post them here, it will be easier than asking everyone via pm.
