Hello everyone, I'm new here and I'm in need of help.
I'm making my first head using Darkkender's head tutorial. I followed all the steps and made sure everything was correct, however, when I go into TSL and go to take a screenshot so I can make my portrait, there is no head. So, any help will be great.

Make sure you save at 32 bits.

Okay, thanks. However, I'm a complete n00b at this and..uh...how excatly do you save it at 32 bits?
EDIT: I don't know if this matters or not, but the only program that I have, that is compatable with everything is GIMP.

But I only know how to save it in Photoshop :(
Wait for one of the GIMP experienced guys to come along and I bet they can fix it ;)

GIMP automatically saves tga format textures as 32 bits if there is an alpha chanel present in the texture and 24 bits if there isn't one. The game will read in 24 bit tga files just fine. However you do want to make sure the texture dimensions are even. I think for a head texture it should be 512 x 512 or 256 x 256 I can't recall which. If you dimensions are not a perfect square and divisible by 8 then the game will ignore your tga file. Also you will need to make sure your new model files as well as the tga's and 2da's are all in the main overide folder and not in subfolders. If the 2da's are in subfolders they tend to get ignored.
If you can't get it to work by this evening send me a PM with your files zipped up and I'll take a look at them to see whats wrong. I'll have time to be on tonight and fix any problems and send you a readme with the working files tonight.

Okay. Thanks Darkkender. I'll see if I can get it working.
Thanks for the help! :D
EDIT: Well, I re-did everything and I got the head to work. Now, my next question, is, how do you add texture and such to the head? Is there a Tutorial out there somewhere? Do I need a certain program?
Oh and how do you make more then one head? What I mean is you have all these words put together and the likes.
But what does the T letter mean?
Also, what do the numbers mean?
Now, I understand what to do with everything else. It's just; I don't know how to make more then one head. What letters to use and such.
I hope I made sense.

Does your head have no texture?
If you have a default looking head, all you have to do is open GIMP, then open the head's texture file that you have stored in override, paint whatever you want, and save it back to override as TGA, go back into the game and the head should be changed:) I really hope that's right;)
As far as the naming goes, the last letter is the skin color, and the last number is the different head type,
The only head I've used...PFHC02
02 (the angelina jolie looking head, the second in the caucasian group)
as far as how to make different ones I don't know, I only did it once, and replaced the original:(

First, I would like to say thank you to all those who have helped me. :D
Now, to see my 'final' project.

I'll see if I can learn how to make new heads myself. But if anyone knows the answer to my question...then great!
Once again, thanks for the help! :D
Edit: I messed around with everything, and used Darrkender's tutorial as a guideline. However, when I changed a few things, I either got a woman's head with a man's body in the male's screen selection, or, when I changed things yet again, I got a female in with the Male screen selection. So, uh, any help on making a FEMALE head, would be nice.... :D
I didn't change nothing major. Instead of having PMHT01...I put PFHT05....and so on....
If you have any questions, I'll be glad to tell you what I did. :D

Uhh, you said you changed the name?
PMHT01 to PFHT05
M stands for Male, and F stands for Female, I guess there's a few ways to mix stuff up, but I'm pretty sure confusing male and female filenames could be a part of it.
What happens from those changes depends on exactly what you were renaming.

The key to making a female character is to locate a stock female appearance in appearance.2da and copy the 3 lines associated with that appearance. If you copy the lines for a male appearance and just replace the head you will end up with that womans head on a male body situation.
The "T" I used in the custom head tutorial was a place holder I decided to use to indicate Twilek. When creating your own custom head you don't need to follow this format however it does help to use something similiar. When I did the [TSL]Holowan plugin I added a "DK" in front of all of the custom heads I did.
The key factor when crafting a custom head is the first question you must ask yourself. That is: Do I want to make a custom appearance based on a default player model or on a NPC model? Once you have that figured out it can be easy to go from there. If you chose default player model then locate the appearance in the 3 2da files 3 lines in appearance.2da, 1 line in heads.2da, & 1 line in portraits.2da. Copy these lines to the bottom and make minor tweaks to all of the numbers such as changing the "01" to "31" for example. Then edit the skin texture for that appearance and rename accordingly.
If you answered NPC model to the question above rely on the example I used in my tutorial. If your creating a Female choose a female appearance in the 2da files. If creating a Male choose a male appearance in the 2da files. You will find that appearance.2da even breaks down the descriptions using P_MAL_L_C_01 or P_FEM_L_C_01 so you can tell between male and female by the title of each.
I hope this is of further help to you.
