Hey there! First time poster... Hello to eveyone, and here's my question.
May sound stupid, but just wanted to make sure.

About the rule on "not porting" items, caracters the copyrighted stuff from other SW games. That I understand and need to clarification, I wanted to know, if I re-make it from the ground up, using the original files as a guide, is that still against the rules? I'm more of a scripter myself, but want to try my hand at moddling. I see that it's easyier to start with an example...anyway getting off my question here...
So basically, can I just rebuild (say) a hilt from KOTOR1 and make it for KOTOR2 (or vice-verca)?

Thanks

To the question if you are doing a ground up build then it's fine. If your taking from one game and putting it in another without anymore effort than that then it is illegal.

To your example the k1 and k2 hilts are the same for stock in game hilts. However if your trying to take a MOD hilt crafted for k1 and port it to k2 that is perfectly fine. The same goes for porting of MODS from another game to k1 or k2.

So to recap

Porting in game resources(something the developers of a game created) from one game to another == Illegal.

Ground up creation of your own that looks similiar to a resource from another game however is strictly your of your own making == Legit.

Porting a Mod for another game into the current game you are modding for == Legit.
(Side note: if your doing this for a public release you will need to get that mods authors permission to release it for public usage.)

Thx, so if i replicate something (as long as I actually do the work) it's legit.. thx...
I guess someone can delete this thread then...

Well it is best not to delete it as someone can use the Search function in the future and find it and thus find help.
