View Full Version : Prequels vs. original

Me and my little brother were recently having a fight over which series is better. I like the original for the story line but he loves the prequels for the effects and duels. So I was wondering, what do you guys think?

Snafu7

Well they're both great, but I like the prequels more than the originals, just because it gave some closure(sp?) on the series.

I enjoy the prequels, with the same reason your brother does DL

I prefer the original's story. Im just sad they don't look as good as the prequels.

Same here. The originals weren’t dominated with CG aspects. I would have preferred if Lucas had relied a bit less on the greenscreen during the production of the prequels, to produce the same affect.

Don't care, it's all the same to me, good times and lots of pretty lights.

ah, this is one of those apples and oranges questions..... same but different. Im calling it a tie because ESB and ROTS are my faves by far.

I don't care either way. Any Star Wars is good Star Wars to me.

The OT, because it looks much more realistic then the PT thanks to the fact they didn't use that much a greenscreen. The only PT movie I like is ROTS, because of the duels, Order 66 and the fact that the CG looks much more realistic then TPM or AOTC.

I like them both so I choose "Don't care."

The originals didn't have any bad acting. There were times in all three prequals when I was about ready to rip my arm off and throw it at the screen. This makes the OT much better, IMO.

The originals didn't have any bad acting? In which reality? XD LOL, The originals had plenty of bad acting in em just as much as the prequals. It's Star Wars.

I love the Prequels, they're just so good, i never noticed the vast amount of CG used (because it's so good), we all know the Originals could use some ROTS style CG explosions and lightsaber effects.
I also like the Prequels for the story, the Jedi Order, the films just have such an epic feel to them. I do admit though, there is an awful lot of talking in the Prequels, but at least there aren't any brothers and sisters making out in them, lol.

Don't get me wrong I loved the Originals as a kid, they got me into Star Wars, I watched them again the other day and with the exception of ANH the duels and space battles aren't bad at all even when compared with Obi-wan vs. Darth Maul and the battle above Coruscant.

I never thought that any of the acting in the movies was bad, never, Anakin in the garage on Tatooine was totally believable, Obi-Wan "You were my brother Anakin!" was amazing acting as was Anakin being an angry Sith.
The only real acting I can remember from the Originals was Han and Leia, Luke and anger in ROTJ, and Luke getting some bad news in ESB. All of it was just fine.

I voted Prequels, evening everything out for now.

The acting in the originals was bad at times, as much as I hate to admit. Especially the stormtroopers and other unimportant characters.

I don't have a preference. They both are different sides of Star Wars, and are both fun to watch. Since the prequals have been released I've probably watched them more, but that's just because I need to catch them up with the OT, which I watched all the time before the prequals.

I vote OT. No grand reason. I just enjoy them a bit more.

About the acting, Star Wars has never been know for good acting. Its mostly because Lucas just isn't a great director of actors. Even some really good actors come off as bad actors in the movies. *cough* Sam Jackson*cough* (yea, I said it :xp: )

Thankfully, R2D2 hit his lines perfectly. He's a great actor. I wonder what else he is in...

The Doctor

I'm sorry, but the OT had nowhere near as much bad acting as the prequals. Niether Christanson or Portman could act their was out of a wet paper bag (even at their "best"), Samuel L. Jackson insulted himself in AOTC, as did Christopher Lee and Ewan McGreggor.
The OT didn't have any bad acting as far as I could see.

Okay, I like the OT the best. EpIII follows shortly after, then EpII and dead last, EpI.

Cmdr. Cracken

Episode III is the only prequal I now watch on a regular basis. The other ones.... well...

TPM: Goto Lightsaber fight.
AOTC: Goto Battle of Geonosis/Anakin and Obi-Wan Vs. Dooku, Yoda Vs. Dooku
RotS: Minus the REALLY bad acting in the beginning with Hayden and Portman, (That, and she looked REALLY bad in that balconey scene to the point of PAIN IN THE EYES.) the movie is worthy of my time.

Overall, the originals kick ass. No doubts about it. The new ones are all about flash, and pretty lights. The originals had less pretty lights and flash, but are hard to beat.
