View Full Version : the old Lucas Art games were much better...

Jem

I rather play the old Lucas art games like "Days of the tentacle", "Same and Max", Indiana Jones and the fate of atlantis" or "Full Throtle" they rule and are much more fun ! Lucas Art and other companies (I insist in lucas art because they created my favorite role playing games (those said above)) seems to think that only 3d counts and forgot how to do great games! C'mon, the first monkey island was the best episode I had lots of fun playing it but no fun at all with the new "better graphics" ones and "Indiana Jones and the infernal machine" is a lot worst!
THE FUN WENT AWAY ALONG WITH THE PIXELS !

till this day I still play "Days of the tentacle" over and over again, it's my favorite game of all time !! and I'm sure that the way games are going, DOTT will for ever be my favorite game!

You are right about the old LA's games, especially the Adventures ( and not RPG's as you have wrongly stated http://www.xwingalliance.com/forums/wink.gif)

Great graphics and 3D sound cannot substitute for lack of gameplay.

sigh, the decent replies for this topic are minimum guess most people forgot what a fun game was and are blinded by good graphics and sound.... almost everyone I know judges a game by it's look and when they buy it they say "oh, bouhou this game actually sucks and I have no money left!" Never rate a game by the way it looks NEVER !

Jem is right, I love playing the old games from LA.
The graphics in games aint everything. A lot though, but not everything.

And that I think includes even in movies. I don't think TPM was that all Star Wars movie. Yes it was a good movie but not as the original ones. And that mostly, I think, is cause of all the digitalizing in TPM. It didn't feel real. And even worse EP2 will be full digitized.

I even remembered the first time i bought X-Wing. I remember asking the clerk if it really was that good graphics. I also remember that the game cost about 649sek abd that would be about $60 i think. It was a long time ago.

I liked that as well, but I'd have to say I like it better with REAL music (though not by very much). Of course, XWA has the best of both worlds. The one thing that was great about X-Wing was that you could pick your wingmen in the original game, and they took that out of X-wing 95 http://www.xwingalliance.com/forums/frown.gif

True Farlander, I think you could have done XwA alot better if you added, like in X-Wing, that you can add the wingmen and it would be cool if you could decide more things before u go in flight.

And also XwA has the best music ever!!!
TF has cool Imperial music. Though the quality aint like XwA.

You want recent games worth playing? Porsche Unleashed(Got it monday, playing non stop), Half-Life(I play at least twice a week online), The Sims, Deus Ex, No One Lives Forever, Metal Gear Solid(Gotta love this game), Project IGI(also known as I'm Going In), Black & White(Unreleased, Can't wait to play it), MechWarrior 4, Jet Grind Radio(Dreamcast), Metal Gear Solid 2(Unreleased, PS2, too bad it's never coming to the PC), just to name a few. Those are(or will be) games of the "fun" type. Check them out, if you like "fun" games.

Actually, there was an FPS before Wolf3D... I don't remember the name, but I saw the Shareware version of it on some site last week...

-------------------------

That is not my way of thinking.

now this is my way of thinking:
Great graphics and 3D sound cannot substitute for lack of gameplay; sounds and graphics are not the things that make a good game, GamePlay is the important stuff, Gameplay!
People have been "blinded" by graphics and sound over and over again so they forgot what's a real fun game all about. and "anything that runs in a resolution over 640x480" is where u can find the best games because at that time they didn't have to worry about graphics or sound, they had to find a great story and make a game that everyone would love: they would concentrate only on that. Nowadays they concentrate on graphics, graphics and graphics(how many direct 3D Hardware acceleration have been released in such a small amount of time!)!!

anyways I could go on for ever but I'll stop there.

oh yeah, I did say that Grim Fandango was a good game and it does not run in a resolution under 640x480 and has sprites instead of 3d models.

In doom that weapon that shot the green bolt weapon #7. My brother hated it, since every time he shot it at me I would evade it, and every time I shot him with it he would die.

A secret to staying alive longer, if you have the time, and are almost about to die, land your ship at the lowest valley between the hills, stop moving, and keep trying to move down. It should repair all of your damage.

hey JR2000Z if their is not a single person coming to your city maybe it's because:
-didn't put any electricity
-didn't put any water (pumps, underground tubes)
-didn't build any roads

ok Thrawn, to destroy the Death Star II I think you have to hit the core (the red pixel.
These are the controls for "Raiders of the Lost Ark" (for some reason you can't use a joystick or gamepad):
"O" = up
"K" = left
": ;" = right
"L" = Down
"J" = shoot or action
and to select your items just use the arrow keys left or right

and how about you Thrawn, what is your favorite game of all time?

I used to play Maniac Mansion on my NES all the time, and that game truly ruled. I also liked TF a lot. How much? Well, I saw my friend play it on his 486, so I immediatly went and bought it. Too late, I realized that my 386 was below the box specs. Didn't stop me. I played it with all graphics at min, no sound, and at speeds better measured in seconds per frame, but I loved every minute of it.
Still, not my favorite game. Nothing compared to Falcon 3.0.

oh yeah I forgot:
the best beat'em up game: Samurai Shodown 4 (for NeoGeo)
all NeoGeo games were originally created for arcade so they are meant to be really impossible that way they force you to spend a maximum amount of quarters to continue.
SSD 4 is the most impossible beat'em up game I've ever played: I spent more than 2 hours trying to beat this guy, I couldn't do it! It was getting very late so I paused it for the whole night and continued the day after, still no victory. I got fed up with hurting my hand each time I banged the table with anger so I stopped...
Those kind of games are really bad for your health...

Damn quarter eating machines, they do well their jobs. Anybody here spent more than 50$ in a arcade game??
