It was after the promotion parade, and I had hit the celebration-juice a little too hard... Tosha (left) is actually, far better looking then that, and has the urge to bone Dave Moffat ]*shudder*... My camera can't do her looks justice... Kiera (right) has dated 2 of my 4 best friends, but I'm out of her league... Well, I'm out of Tosha's too... They're both only 15... I'll be the big One-Eight in August.

Women have no place in the military?!? Horse cookies! Have either of you actually served with any?

*Long silence.*

Well, I have. They make excellent soldiers--they have a higher threshhold of pain, they focus very well, and if we allow ourselves the notion of women having better intuition than men, then they just might have a psychic 'survival edge.' A battalion of pissed-off female soldiers is the very last thing I would want coming after me!

So. Is there any factual, well-reasoned argument why women would make poor soldiers? http://www.xwingalliance.com/forums/rolleyes.gif Or is it all a bunch of sexist frogtwaddle?

what about that stuff that happened in Israel where the women soldiers on the front lines when berzerkers and were hacking at the dead bodies and stuff like that?

as I said i can see the feminine features in the two girls (just) but what that.... thing in the middle is i just don't know.
Jem u play Planetarion? i used to.
and i don't think women in the army is a very good idea. They are of the same mental abilities as men (maybe more) but physically
they are weaker. E.g In America apparently women don't even have to throw grenades they just need to run to the target drop the grenade and run. If that is not true then they deffinatly don't need to throw it as far.

Just as I thought...frogtwaddle!

The argument stands in my favor. Men and women are equal, minor physical differences not counting for much on the modern battlefield (where you almost never get close enough to throw a grenade in the first place.) http://www.xwingalliance.com/forums/biggrin.gif

Back in the old, old days, when humans had to physically wrestle their dinner to the ground and kill it, the physical differences between men and women meant a lot more. That extra muscle meant that the stronger (men) were better suited to some tasks than the weaker.

Fortunately, we have evolved a bit since then. http://www.xwingalliance.com/forums/rolleyes.gif

women can't handle the same physical stresses of a modern fighter as a man (to be fair though, men can barely do it...), that's why the Air Force has more female bomber pilots than fighter pilots.
women have also proven less capable during simulations aboard ships in CIC during highly stressful moments (such as heavy sensory input from numerous displays and sirens and screaming people)

Zoom your right about not wanting a battalion of pissed of females hunting u down "shiver" especially if it was 'that time of the month'

Zoom Rabbit
01-25-2001, 08:35 AM
Okay, I'll give you the point about fighterpilot G tolerances...although that's a general valuation. There will always be both men and women outside of the G tolerance envelope, just as there will be some that fall within. Admittedly, more of those within the envelope will be men. http://www.xwingalliance.com/forums/rolleyes.gif

As for this stress testing you mention in the CIC of a ship...evaluating someone's performance in a stressful situation is a subjective matter. The least objective evaluation possible is going to come from the Navy, where tradition runs heavy and women are still seen in sexist terms. If you get a board of civilian researchers to come up with the same conclusions, then I'll buy it.

So if we take the first argument as a 'given--sorta' and the second as a 'riiiiight,' we still don't have decent reason to disqualify women from military service. That would be like saying that men have no place in the water because they have less body fat and are less buoyant...

Nute Gunray
01-25-2001, 01:52 PM
I THINK, i'm not sure, that the second thing came from a study that a civilian group DID do.
I like things they way they USED to be, there seemed to be something more honorable about it for some reason.

Ah, for the old days. Men were men, and women brought them beer.

It can be said with certainty, I should point out, that women are entirely incapable of outdoor cold-weather calligraphy.*

Yeah, and soon after that attack I got another one (762 units) and had 172 unitiated asteroids (had the $ but I wanted to wait) anyways almost everything is gone. It couldn't happen in a worst time, just when the internet provider pulled the plug (I am currently in a CyberCafe).

I think that no one has a place in the military. There are far more worthy uses of a sentient mind than trying to kill as many people as possible as violently as possible.

However, in the (increasing unlikely) event I actually do find something worth fighting for, I'd rather have women at my side than men.
