You're wrong. We have 50 Peacekeeper/MX missiles on hand each fully loaded with their warheads. The MX deployment system isn't around, but the Peacekeepers are. And there's no such thing as a Peacemaker missile. Our land based ones are the Minuteman and Peacekeeper/MX missiles.

I'm pretty sure that Nute knows about this...

Those kind of missiles had their whole software programs done from scratch.
The reason : They were designed to carry nuclear heads at first, so accuracy was not vital. All it had to do was to get near the target and explode...

I've been reading up on all sorts of nuclear weapons stuff that i've been finding while doing research for my english paper (Causes of the Fall of The Soviet Union and the Effects on the Russian Federation) and the world is a much scarier place than they like to talk about. Like Israel and it's 400+ nuclear warheads (i knew they were packing, but 400 was more than I knew about. i thought like 10) or India's ICBMs or Iran's four ex-Soviet warheads...and our 9255 "legal" warheads.

KNOWN NUCLEAR POWERS (IN ORDER OF MANUFACTURE (i think) with delivery capabilities):
United States (Global)
Soviet Union (Global)
Britian (Macro-regional)
France (Marco-regional)
China (Limited Global, 12 ICBMs and unknown amount of long range bombers)
Israel (Macro-regional)
India (Limited Global, one ICBM and 100 extremely long range bombers)
South Africa (Regional)
Pakistan (Regional)

SUSPECTED NUCLEAR POWERS/UNDELIVERABLE POWERS:
Libya (Suspected, regional)
Iraq (Suspected, regional)
Iran (Four Ex-Soviet Warheads, no delivery capabilities)
North Korea (Laugh, project is "significantly overestimated" based on 1998 recon photos)
Taiwan (Probably possess a few devices, already have delivery capabilities)

POSSIBLE NUCLEAR POWERS (i'll probably forget a lot of these):
Germany (could assemble a weapon in three days, Macro-regional delivery)
Egypt (unknown time frame, regional)
Japan (Three days, Global)
Canada (10+ days, no delivery)
South Korea (unknown time frame, regional)
Italy (unknown time frame, regional)
The Netherlands (unknown time frame, regional)
Brazil (unknown time frame, regional)

If you *had* a nuclear arsenal, which you don't, it would probably consist of uranium gun weapons with extremely low yields. Unlike myself who has plutonium implosion devices with dueterium boosting. Can you say thermonuclear boys and girls http://www.xwingalliance.com/forums/biggrin.gif

My preference for Nuclear Warheads would have to be the Neutron Bombs, you can eliminate a countries military personel but leave the defemsive infrstructure intact, to make it easier to defend your conquered territory http://www.xwingalliance.com/forums/smile.gif

Crashing a 747 would trigger a chain of events that would eventually lead to a war with Japan. And the guy who was responsible for the capture of the Red October becoming president http://www.xwingalliance.com/forums/wink.gif

I would NEVER use a WMD in a strategic role. Destruction and death on such a vast scale directly flies in the face of the reason of conquest. You can't CONQUER what used to be a city...

The Death Star was an imposition of the Will. That comes after conquest. Conquest has three purposes: using their infrastructure for your own gain, using their resources for the betterment of your own state, and imposing your will on their people.
Let suppose you vaporized the New York metro area. You've just destroyed a HUGE existing infrastructure, destroyed a huge commercial/industrial and transportation district, and at least 8 million people that you could have forced to do whatever the Victors said to do. Destroying your enemy outright like that is contrary to the point of conquering your enemy, which is usually the goal.

Rogue 9
04-02-2001, 03:31 AM
so the best WMD would probably be a slow acting biological agent that you would offer the cure for in echange for there loyalty http://www.xwingalliance.com/forums/biggrin.gif

Who wants to own land that is unusable for over 1000 years. The NEGATIVE part of a neutron bomb is that its HIGHLY RADIOACTIVE, much more so than any other weapon we have. it just makes NY a BIG BARREN NIGHT LITE for Jersey......

Zargon

hmmmmmmm.............ok some of my info is a bit out of date, we do have a few 'functional' ones, but the radiation still hangs for a few years......and metal will keep the radiation for a LONG time.....

Rogue 9

also called ENHANCED RADIATION WARHEAD, specialized type of small thermonuclear weapon that produces minimal blast and heat but which releases large amounts of lethal radiation. The neutron bomb delivers blast and heat effects that are confined to an area of only a few hundred yards in radius. But within a somewhat larger area it throws off a massive wave of neutron and gamma radiation, which can penetrate armour or several feet of earth. This radiation is extremely destructive to living tissue. Because of its short-range destructiveness and the absence of long-range effect, the neutron bomb would be highly effective against tank and infantry formations on the battlefield but would not endanger cities or other population centres only a few miles away. It can be carried in a Lance missile or delivered by an 8-inch (200-millimetre) howitzer, or possibly by attack aircraft.

Rogue 9
04-05-2001, 12:42 AM
this excerpt explains why Neutron Bombs don't have lingering Radiation...

The neutron bomb is a hydrogen bomb with a very very small fission primary (or maybe none at all) and no U-238 shell. Thus the energy comes almost exclusively from fusion, with no fission fragments. Thanks to this, there is no lingering radioactivity. However the neutrons emitted from the fusion reaction are effective at killing life, but do relatively little damage to buildings. The neutron bomb is made small so that damage from the fireball is limited to a small area. The bomb was intended to be used if Russia invaded West Germany. It would kill the invaders without destroying the country it was designed to save.

There not even sure if most of the weapons DO actually work. So if we ever have it out like that, it WOULD be kinda funny to see all these warheads just crashing into the ground like so many radioactive meteors.
