View Full Version : New animations and stances: Like or dislike?

Well here are some new stances I've been working on, the rest of the animations is the same except for the backflip anim (also the one we use for when you get kicked and you backflip) which I changed to a nicer one that fit the cartwheels and the other jump-backflip (jump then back) I put in earlier.

Yellow:
Reminds me of Obi wan's EP1 stance, really default but with a slight grace and fortitude in it's aura.

Red:
Very aggresive and 'ready-to-batter' styled stance that fits the movements of red perfectly if you ask me.

Cyan:
Very open and arrogant styled stance, Dooku reminiscant.

Purple:
Deceiving forward-aggressive stance, I personally like it a lot.

Blue:
STill working on blue, not really an idea on what it should be. Plus; the current stance is a good indicator on what I think of blue. We'll see.

Animation changes:
Left and right cartwheel are now the cartwheels that the NPC's like acrobat reborns liked to do in JO.

The backflip (regular) is now a type of aerial backflip like you would expect from a carthweel, but it looks very good:

Well I hope you like them, guys. I'm hoping that now that I've gained a bit more experience in this whole replacement and animation ordeal that you'll consider letting these stances and animations (or just the stances :P) into OJP?

Ace likes them too, be it that I get enough positive votes I have a shot at getting them into the mod. This would make my dream come true, seriously :D

Still, I like the makashi animation in your released Enhanced pack, the one with the right hand crossed to the left, blade parallel to the horizontal axis. That looks very nice too. Decisions decisions :D

On the sidenote, I think you should be cautious with stance animations too. For the Juyo stance in your released Enhanced pack, the stance looks very awkward. When I run and suddenly stop, my character executes the stance animation ie. saber turns down and up. I think you might want to achieve something more subtle?

On the red stance the hand is higher on the hilt, but not too high in my opinion. Looking at Anakin in EP2 he had his hand higher on the hilt as well.

The Juyo stance is out right now, I replaced it with a much more stable stance that's not animated.

Could you, perhaps, release this in a small pk3-file, so we could see and experience the animations and stances for ourselves? I am particularly interested in how well the stances blend with the movements.

Sure I can, hang on.

I'm still looking for a blue stance and doing some speed improvements.

Okay I haven't added anything new (sorry Buffy) but I've taken out the cartwheel to the back because it just looked wrong..

someone tald me when standing as dual saber Right arm is looks weird... you think so too ?

I download your animation config and tested but it all same as my animation looks like .. what did you change ?

Maybe you replaced your animations in the Animation_005? That isn't used anymore.

To replace it, find the most recent Enhancedstuff009x (x being the latest letter) and go into Models --> players --> Humanoids and replace it there.

They look great as always Padd.....I mean Max. :P

As always the animations make or break the game. Now for some gunner/jetpack animations, eh? I could always help with that, I have some knowledge of Dragon so give me a call. :)

Btw Max I noticed an irregularity in the Makashi anim. When you press D + attack, then WD + attack (assuming you're using WASD), the animation is very slow :)

Max, it looks like you did some great work on this package. I think we should add this into OJP Enhanced.

Some thoughts:
1. I like how you alter and sped up the forward kick. I'd go ahead and speed up all the ground kick animations. I think that will make kick more useable.
2. The new stumble animations don't look right. Maybe I just don't get them. What's the purpose of the change.
3. Please try to make sure that any new animations balance out in terms of length with other animations of the same time. This is really critical to the balancing of the saber stances especially. :)

I like this pack so much, I've made a proper package for it. (http://www.cs.uidaho.edu/~olso6447/ojp_testanims_009p.zip) Just unzip it to your JKA game folder just like any other OJP distro and it should work with latest beta version of the mod (0.0.9p). Also, as a special bonus, this .zip also fixes the problem with blue stance's slow bounces being WAY too short.

they use only melee long time so ..
and me too I dont get level up long time too just keeping melee and 2 weapon no light saber long time ... :(

Also, spawning bots named "Weequay" or "Trandoshan" will have sabers.
Look out, they're hard to beat :D

Can you tell me what sabers you are using? Are those the MBII ones?

Very fine work. This is very, very cool... I like it. :) I don't know what kind of balance issues will come up, but I like the distinct sense of style with each one. Especially green. :)

I just tried them and I like them but I liked the older ones you did better. :p

The backflip and roll back looks.....out of place and wierd.

(Max do you happen to still have the old stances? XD I think I kind of want those again)

I said that the back roll is still the old aerial I was trying, I'm planning on removing it.

The backflip is a backflip that was already in the game but it was used only in one out of so many backflips. I plan to bring back the old backflips, but I like this one too much to let it go just yet, so do others.

The old pack ALSO had this backflip as well...

1: Yes, I changed it to a bit more Jedi-like flip. Change back if you wish.

2:I'll look into that, can't remember I did much there though.. if it bothers you just change it back to what you wish. I made and tweaked this to suit my personal ideas so I don't expect everyone to like everything about it :)

3:I made them a bit slower so it's more clear ingame when you parry.
It's a lot more clear when I parry and when I don't right now because when I don't the parry animation doesn't play. Before I changed these speeds I never noticed this fact all.

4:I thought I changed them back, but they don't appear ingame anyway so no troubles.

Gotcha. Please use the .cfg in the latest beta (0.0.9q) for your future experiments so that it will be easier to add your animations in the future.

Nice to finally see Max's animations offically in OJP. It really adds a nice feel to everything.
