This is for making old SCUMM oriented games run on newer PC's, and other things involving old SCUMM games. LERN LINUX. :lock:

Where do we get this people? It's not like you can easily find LucasForums by googling for "h0t ub3r l33t h4x b3wbz" or whatever.

It's only a matter of time before Wapanese invade SCUMM Hacking forum as well with all of their .hack nonsense. Guess it won't hurt for Jmac to make a couple of friends.

I've renamed the forum to hopefully dissuade future script kiddies from bothering you guys. Hopefully the change is not too lame.

Can anyone think of a new name for this forum? The old name wasnt exactly accurate either.

Wow, what did that kid think we were going to say? "Oh, that's an easy one! Just press CTRL-ALT-DEL three times and a screen will pop up allowing you to change your grades, just like WarGames. What's that? Never heard of WarGames. Too young? Oh well, never mind!"

New name: SCUMM Editing? It's still not right. I've not really got any idea of the best way to describe this forum! "Beneath the hood"? "Inside SCUMM"? "Modding/Editing"?

How about "Scumm Fiddling" although it kind of sounds like something one does with his penis.

11-26-2006, 06:27 PM
Perhaps a name that doesnt even mention SCUMM, since the forum deals with a lot more than that now (Telltale, Psychonauts, Grim, EMI etc).

'Beneath the hood' is along the right lines though.

Let's just call it "Editing" then.

11-26-2006, 08:12 PM
"Games we love, ripped apart!"

11-27-2006, 05:22 PM
"Internal investigations" (too porny)
"Messing around with the innards of LucasArts, TellTale and Double Fine games" (too wordy)
"Fan modification and editing" (too austere. also, could be taken the wrong way)
"Fun with code!" (too frivolous)
"Spelunking with binary" (too surreal)
"Ripping, editing and modding" (too quakey)

I give up.

Dunno, I kinda like "Benny's Binaries and More", "Effective Ways of Killing Boredom" or maybe "Data Files Unleashed".

Hey, or how about "Wrack-A-.Dat"?

How about we just un-acronym "SCUMM". Script Creation Utility for Maniac Mansion. Although nowadays we're not dealing with just SCUMM anymore.

You don't actually have to do any hacking to get most admin rights, assuming that you are just trying to get access to restricted functions as mentioned in your post.

Try using MS Word's open/save menu to access C: or using Windows' New>Shortcut. Keep playing around and you should be able to find a loophole using something simple that was overlooked by the school admin. Once in C:\Windows\system32, you should be able to access nonrestricted executables of Windows Explorer, Task Manager, Registry, and MS-DOS Prompt, to name a few.
