Alright, so who here is going to see 300?

I'm going to go see it tomorrow with a group of friends. My parents don't want me watching R rated moves (even though I'm 17), so AFATK, I'm just gonna go chill out with my friend at his house.

God I can't wait.

(Spoilers put in thread title as a preemptive measure)

I'm going to go see it with a group of friends tomorrow after school. Pumped, BIG TIME. Gonna be sweeet. Rest assured I'll be chattering my arse off tomorrow on here after I see it :).

zOMG Vader is Luke's father!

Wait, what are we talking about?

Personally I'm not that excited about 300. It looks interesting, but I'd rather watch a movie actually based off of the battle of Thermopylae instead of a Frank Miller novel. I might go see it, but it depends on how much I cherish my 9 dollars.

Just got back from watching it.

EPIC. Completely EPIC.

There were a few pretty cheesy moments, but they were extremely dwarfed by the sheer magnitude of awesome that was this movie. Seeing this movie is doing yourself a favor.

Is it stylized like Sin City? I was pumped for that movie but aside for Marv's parts I was a bit dissapointed.

Unfortunately not. :(

Did you see, then? There is suppose to be a trailer.

I hope to see later today. Though, it's 18A. So, I'll have to go with my friend and possibly his sister. But, hey, if I still get to see the movie that would be fine with me. :D Or since my friend's neighbour is the manager at Silvercity, we might be able to get free tickets to go see it at the IMAX. :D Though, no guarantee. I hope to see some time soon if not today.

EDIT: preview for those who haven't seen it. 300 seconds of 300 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FA0s7NvCCeQ)

Just got back from watching it.x2.

Boo Xerxes! Hooray Leonidas!

There was so much pwn in that movie I feel ashamed of my exploits on Rome: TW.

Funniest quote: "No reason we shouldn't be civil." :D
Though it was sad about Leonidas' spear throw. :(

I really liked the atmosphere of the movie. It "felt" like a comic book. A very, very gritty comic book. With lots of awesome dudes wearing speedos... er, never thought I'd say that! ^_^

Achilles
03-09-2007, 08:12 PM
I felt that the end was a total rip-off of other genre films, specifically:
Braveheart, Gladiator, The Last Samurai, and Hero
Very stylized film though. I really liked the texture of the movie, even though I found the story itself a little lacking.

Mike Windu
03-09-2007, 08:33 PM
It was awesome.

I'd say that it falls short of great, but it's still good. I left feeling a bit meh, but in general it's awesome. Battles are schweet.

slow mo was a bit overused though. :p

I'll like this better when it comes on dvd.

Though the entire theater clapped when

the queen stabbed that guy

Achilles
03-09-2007, 08:42 PM
That happened when I saw it too.

Although the audience also clapped when:

The lights when down
The previews started
The previews ended
The production company credits ran before the title shot

Talk about annoying.

Yea my theater got applause when the traitor died. There were some good lines in this movie.
"Our arrows will blot out the sun."
"Then we will fight in the shade."

"What's your profession?"
"Sculptor."
"Yours?"
"Blacksmith."
"Spartans! What's your profession?"
"RAWR!"
"You see Athenian, I brought more soldiers than you."

Samuel Dravis

"Our arrows will blot out the sun."
"Then we will fight in the shade."I liked the part a few minutes later where they all started laughing while hiding behind their shields. He just had to say it, didn't he? :D

Damn, did Leonidas and the Queen write the book on the kama sutra? I counted as least 4 or 5 different ways they were goin at it. O_O

pretty awesome movie. I liked the style. I thought that the slo-mo would feel too overdone but it seemed to fit the tone of the movie more.

Also did Xerxes remind anyone of Dhalsim from Street Fighter?

BongoBob

Alright. Finally home from seeing it. We got lucky, because his friend Josh ended up going to see it with us and he has a car, so no walking for us. We got lucky again, when my friend Chance didn't have his ID on him, and after walking away found his Work Permit with his DOB and used that and his School ID, and they barely let him in. Thank god. I would have kicked his ass if we didn't see it.

F***ing epic. IMO it kicked amounts of ass previously thought unkickable. There was alot of Slo-Mo, but I think that is part of the overall feel to the movie. I loved the grainy filter over everything, it really added to the visual style of it. I loved the whole look and feel to it.

Funniest quote: "No reason we shouldn't be civil." :D
Though it was sad about Leonidas' spear throw. :(

About the quote, seconded. About the second part:
We all knew that King Leonida dies, and he doesn't kill Xerxes. At first my reactions was "He missed...HE BLOODY MISSED!?" But then after thinking about it, he made a "god" bleed. That was as good as killing him in his mind. And Leonidas still went out like a pimp.

God. I need to find another excuse/way to see it again.

Funny thing is that her name was Gorgo... wonder how that would sound from Leonidas in passion, lawl.

Anyway, I'm back from the theaters, totally ****ing awesome in every way. But I couldn't help imagine what would have happened if Leonidas was driving an M1 Abrams into battle, crunch!

Also, now I know what elephants look like falling 200 feet to their death. : D

Saw it yesterday at 1530 Phoenix time.

It was epic, definitely felt like a comic book. I actually didn't feel like the slow-mownage was overused, it seemed to fit the tone and action of the story perfectly.

The excessive clapping was also annoying, but it was nice to see the entire audience was into it. One thing that did annoy me about the movie is that the proper pronunciation of Leonidas is not LEE-OH-NYE-DASS, but LEE-OH-KNEE-DAS. Got on my nerves after a while.

You know what sucks? They didn't show the mighty Spartan army annihilating the Persians at the end. Would have been awesome.

BongoBob
03-10-2007, 11:00 PM
I kind of liked that they didn't do that. It really made the whole thing come together. Like how it was being narrated up to that point. And of course everyone knew if only 300 spartans could kick that much ass, then 10,000 would annihilate them.

I went and saw it saturday night, after turning off the little history buff inside me. It was pretty good, I liked the stylization except the blood. It just didn't work for me, jarred me out of the movie every time I saw it. I wish they'd done a different effect for it, but thats just personal taste I guess. No comparison to Sin City, but I still would give it a high six, that rounds up to 7/10. All in all, a fun no-brain visual movie.

Mike Windu

I also agree. End battle would have been awesome to see. I think they should have at least ended it with the first head being lopped off.

Oh, and I think the most homoerotic part of this movie was (other than the constant abs, gorgeous, makes me want to work out right now) :
when the ships were crashing against the rocks, and all the spartans were celebrating. I just can imagine a few of them jumping into each other with joy and then rubbing the water over each other. Loel gheyspartanz. :p

I think I might see this again just for the action.

The Immortals were cool, btw.
and p.s.

Ya know a bunch of Zionists totally made the movie, and when watching it, other Zionists are subliminally told to rise up an kill any Iranian in sight. </stupidestthingofsarcasmieversaidbefore>

I thought this film was absolutely great. One of the best movie I've seen in so long.

Commander Obi-Wan

300 served up EPIC preportions of awesomeness.

Finally saw the bloody (no pun intended) movie. And I am not going to lie. The movie was ****ing a-maz-ing! I loved about every bit of it, even some of far-fetched scenes that popped up here and there. Gerard Butler was impressive, as was Lena Headey (for the role she played ;) ). And David Wenham (played 'Faramir' in the Lord of the Rings trilogy) was pretty good, I like how they used him as the narrator as well as a Spartan warrior.

And the battle scenes, were just ****ing insane and amazing. Possibly the best "battle" scenes I've seen in a film. Though, I'm sure the CGI helped. ;)

And about the "slo-mo", I think it just added to the film. I had no problem with it.

I give it 9/10. Only because I wish it were longer and more battle scenes. :xp: And I am definitely buying this on DVD. :D

Lightsaberboy
03-24-2007, 06:33 PM
The slo-mo was just to show what was a comic panel and what wasn't. They seemed to focus on parts that were directly from comic panels so you can see them and tell that they came from them.
